I Scattered The Seeds...

"I perhaps owe having become a painter
to flowers." Claude Monet
This Spring and all the way through June
it RAINED.
This caused most of my vegetable seeds
to rot.
I was very upset... my time weeding,
preparing the soil, tenderly  planting
somewhat straight rows, and all I had
was a sore back and hands.
SO out of frustration I mixed all my
old flower seeds I had been saving...
and wildly threw them everywhere in
my beloved veggie garden.
Up popped Painted Daisies, CA poppies, Bachelor Buttons,
Gypsophilia, Wild Owl Clover, Veronica, the list just goes on and on...

Bee Balm which brought some honey bees (yea) and
hummingbirds by the dozen.
Liatris just opening.
My favorite Black-Eyed-Susan vine.
(I must admit I bought this vine)
more daisies and
Love -Lies-Bleeding
(which is just opening up. The flower will have
long chenille like flowers in a few more week.
I used to grow a lot of this for dried flower arrangements)
Zinnia's from my friend Monica all the way
from Italy.
Look what showed up down under all the flowers.
Every day something new opens up and
brightens my day. I just had to share
my "veggie" garden with you!
Have a wonderful day.

For a Little Laugh....

I received a email this morning from a friend,
that made my day. It had a U Tube in it that
I just had to share with you. It is just delightful.
Teddy says "Show it to them , already!"

Hope it brings a smile to your face too!

Well I am back home.....

That was some experience. They had to pick 7 jurors. There were around 50 of us. Very interesting procedure. After 4 hours I was excused along with40 some other people. They let us all go and we don't have to come back. So home I came and what was waiting in the mail... another jury summons. This time for DH. Oh my. I napped all afternoon. Now napping is something I just don't do normally but today I needed it. So tomorrow I'll try to do an artsy blog. Stick with me folks, I'll be back....................................!

Through the Garden Gate They Did Come...

I had decided that my veggie garden was producing way more than we could us. So I decided to take some to the food bank. So I headed down to the garden and something didn't seem right. As I got closer I saw the gate was ajar. Looking into my once beautiful lush garden I saw nothing but destruction. Six raised beds totally chewed up , pulled up and tossed about. Outside the fence stood nine innocent looking (my foot) elk. One still chewing on some lettuce, another one with bean plants sticking out of his antlers and a carrot hanging from his mouth. Oh to have had my camera. I had worked so hard on that garden and now there was nothing left but some cucumbers and zucchini. I should have been mad but somehow I just sat there watching them watching me. It was a "Mexican standoff". Then I started laughing and just smiling at the whole situation. They really must have been hungry! So glad I could help them out. But I do wish they had left a few beans.

Chester Demanded I show You This...

NO NO he said take it from another angle. So.....

I did as I was told. I asked him to pose under it and he became very upset. Telling me after all he is only about six inches high and it could crush him. I reminded the little fellow he went around planting these giant wonders in my carefully planted flower pots. I also mentioned what a good sport I have been by allowing these giant yellow plants to stay, even though they were NOT the color scheme I had planned on, let alone the size. I also mentioned that I have now found them growing in every planter on my deck and in my flower beds. He informed me this was necessary for his survival. I reminded him that I fed him all last winter and didn't get mad when he started eating my holiday wreath on the front door. He said I wasn't always on time with the feedings. Ack!! I give up! I wonder if they have squirrel training classes somewhere......

She really can carry on. This just takes the cake. I need a nap, good grief....

Sage Medical Advice ....or Pearls of Wisdom Brother In Law Style

My charming sweet brother in law Mark, recently departed the USA to live in Thailand. He sends us wonderful emails, photo's, movies etc. Tales of his escapades and I mean escapades are always enlightening to say the least. When he sent the following I couldn't stop laughing and thought you all might enjoy a little humor brother-in law style.

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system.. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! ..... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it.. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans ! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

And you wonder why I worry. LOL
Have a fun Friday!

After my day I'm Ready For a Nap....

Today was supposed to be my day of leisure after running a few errands. AHH HA! I came back home after running my errands, made myself some lunch and settled into my studio. Joyfully eating lunch and watching Chester nibbling on his just outside my window, when he climbed down and into my pot of primroses. Pretty soon dirt was flying everywhere. The little devil was hiding his stash again. He had "out squirreled" me again and found a way around the screening I had put down. So I flew out the front door to have a few words with the little fellow. Teddy came too. I heard the dreaded noise of the front door closing. OH NO!!!! OH YES I was locked out of my house. I swear Chester was laughing. Yes he was. I proceeded to try every door (8) but no luck. I stopped by my studio window to look longingly at my now cold lunch. Then I was getting a ladder to try climbing to the second story balcony. This is the lady who doesn't do heights. Thought better of it. Did a few jumping jacks (quit laughing) to stay warm. Sure pays to live in the middle of no where. Thought about hiking to the neighbors down the road. But I didn't have a leash for the Ted and He would have gone wild. So I sat on the front steps, starving, cold and thinking about stealing some of Chester's nuts when I had a light bulb moment. Back when my son was in high school ( he is now in his 30's) I hide a key in the woods, just in case he got locked out. So I hiked into the woods and would you believe the key was still there in a little plastic bag. So that was my day of leisure.
On a brighter note Lelia's gift of Sunday at Tiffany's arrived in the mail. Can't wait to read it. This was from OWOH. She has a very interesting blog that you all would enjoy. Thanks Lelia, I certainly will enjoy this book. After my NAP!!!!!!

Things have changed.....

Went to bed with loads of snow as you can see from previous posts. Woke to 39 degrees and rain. The snow is slowly going away. So by Monday I may be able to drive out of here. Now I must start sewing as I have "sew" many ideas floating a round in my head. Oh dear sorry about that, must be cabin fever..... Maybe I should just relax and think about it a little while longer with a nice cup of tea.
And maybe a massage, ahhhhh dream
on........
