Large Card Box featuring Pumpkin Spice

 

After creating a wonderful set of 16 cards, I decided to pull out my Large Card Box tutorial and make a matching box to hold them.  

They all fit inside perfectly too, even along with their 16 envelopes.

3x3 Card Set and Fold-Up Holder

I found some time to play with my inks and stamps and created this pretty little set of 3x3 cards with an easy-to-make, cute little holder.  There's room in there for the envelopes, too.  ;)

I'm still waiting on my new product order from the new Close To My Heart Idea Book - available August 1st.  Once it arrives, I think I may just have to make another one of these sets with new product.

I random stamped my Kraft cardstock using the I Am stamp set from an old kit called Tickled Pink.  You could very easily use any floral set in it's place, though. 

(Or if you don't feel like random stamping, just use B&T instead.)

I used a stamp set called Tasty Treats on the belly band that wraps around the holder, along with the same flower and leaf images from the I Am set.  {I'm not sure if the Tasty Treats set is retired or if it's still available, but I do have a brand new set if anyone is looking to buy one.  I ordered it a while back by accident, and I'm more than willing to sell it.  I don't really need 2 of them...  lol}

Quick instructions to make the holder and belly band:

Holder - Kraft CS:  3 1/4" x 12"; score at 2 1/4", 2 3/4", 6 1/4", 6 3/4", and 10 1/4"

Belly Band - Smokey Plum CS:  1" x 8 1/2"; score at 2", 2 5/8", 5 7/8", and 6 1/2"

Finished holder size:  3 1/2" (h) x 3 1/4" (w) x 1/2" (d)

Buttons & Bows... a quick how to...

Yes, I have posted this card before, but this post is to help answer some questions on how I do my buttons & bows on my cards, like the one above. 

Here's my step-by-step tutorial with photos, to help the visual learners.  ;)

1.       Using a button, thread a 3” piece of black waxy flax through the two holes, leaving the loop at the back as big as you can.  Set these aside for a moment while you get your bows ready.

2.       For the bows, just take a piece of ribbon and loop the ends so it looks like the beginning of tying a bow, but don’t tie it.  Take your button and put the ribbon through the large waxy flax loop.  Place the button in the center of your “bow” and tighten the waxy flax, tying it in a knot at the front.  Trim your bow ends and waxy flax ends.   (See pictures below.)

3.       To attach your buttons and bows to your cards, tear off and use a small piece of ½” ScorTape to adhere them.

3x3 Thanks Card Tote (with instructions)

This morning I saw a cute little tote made to hold the little milk cartons that can be made with the Big Shot die, which is sold through SU.  I don't have the milk carton die, but I thought this tote could be really cute holding 3x3 cards instead.  I had to make some adjustments in the sizing of the milk carton tote so the cards wouldn't tip out, and this is what I came up with.  :)

Here's my instructions (altered from Ruth Norton's milk carton tote found HERE, shared on LeeAnn Greff's blog):

• Start with 7" x 8 3/4" piece of CS.
• With the 7" side at the top of your Scor-Pal, score at 1 3/4" and 5 1/4".
• Turn so the 8 3/4" side is at the top of your Scor-Pal, and score at 1 3/4" and 3 1/2".   Then carefully score at 5 1/4", scoring only from the outer edge up to the intersecting 1 3/4" score line (see diagram).
• Cut along all solid lines, making sure to trim off the lines I drew in blue which will help when folding up your box.  
• Use a bone folder along all dashed score lines.
• Fold Tabs A in and put glue on both tabs, then adhere to Tabs B one at a time.
• Put glue on the outside of Tabs B, then adhere Tabs C to Tabs B one at a time.
• Decorate the box as desired.

For the delicate flowers, I used the SU Fancy Flower punch with tissue paper.  To make quick work of it, I folded the tissue paper up, over and over until I had a good thickness, and then punched once for each flower on the cards.  For the front of the box, I just used a layer of 3 tissue flowers.  They are held together with a simple brad in the center and just scrunched up by hand.  Quick and easy, just the way I like it.  ;)

Clutch-style A2 Card Box and Cards

I have a new card box tutorial to share with you all. I saw a card the other day that made me think of making this box like a 'clutch' purse. You know the kind that the flap comes over top and hangs most of the way down...



I managed to leave a little detail out of my instructions, though. I used a velcro dot for the closure. But I know of some great magnetic closures made by Basic Grey that would be perfect for this project. Mine are on order and they still haven't come in yet, so I used my trusty velcro standby.



I made up 8 very basic cards (meaning flat, no pop-dots or ribbon or even brads for goodness sakes!) and was able to fit those along with 8 envelopes into the box. So you could either keep your cards basic for workshops, or fancy them up some more and just make fewer for your box. The other option is to adjust the instructions to make the box wider. For those of you familiar with making boxes, it would be very easy to do. Oh, and for the cards, I used a pattern from Sheetload of Cards from January 2009, which gives cutting instructions to make 8-A2 sized cards. I just changed it up a little.

Criss-Cross Card Box Tutorial

Okay, so this is my first ever tutorial, so please be gentle! lol

CRISS-CROSS CARD BOX – by Vicki Wizniuk (http://wizardshangout.blogspot.com)

Okay, by now you’ve probably seen a criss-cross card, if not made one yourself. Well this box is using the basic concept of the criss-cross card, only made into a box to hold 5 ½” x 4 ¼” cards and envelopes.



Supplies list:
2 pieces cardstock 7” x 5 ¾” (front pieces)
1 piece cardstock 7” x 6 ¾” (back piece)
1 piece cardstock 1 ¼” x 12” (center band)
Glue
Scor-Tape
Scissors
Scor-Pal
Bone folder

Instructions:
1. Starting with the 7” x 6 ¾” cardstock piece, create the back of your box by scoring it at 1” from both sides along the 6 ¾” side, and at 1” from the bottom along the 7” side. Use your bone folder to give the score lines a nice crisp fold.



2. Using your scissors, cut the solid lines to create folding tabs. The picture below shows how I trimmed the tabs at a slight angle to help with folding. Set aside.



3. Now you are going to make the front pieces, as shown below. Take one of your 7” x 5 ¾” pieces and score it 1” in from the left side along the 5 ¾” side. Then give it a ¼ turn to the right and score at 1” along the 7” side. Using your paper trimmer, place the blade at the upper corner beside the side score line, and line up the cutting line on an angle to the bottom corner beside the bottom score line. Cut that angle off, as shown in the photo below this one.



4. Repeat with the other piece of 7” x 5 ¾” cardstock, changing your score lines to the outer edges and cutting your angle opposite to the first one. For this piece, you will also need to use your scissors to cut off the larger bottom tab as shown in diagram. Cut the little bottom tabs in the same manner as you did for the back piece to help with folding. Set aside.

***The picture below shows what both pieces will look like after they have been scored and cut.



5. Starting with the back piece, glue the little tabs on the bottom to the inside of the larger bottom tab. Set aside.



6. Take the 2 front pieces, and starting with the left side, glue the little tab on the bottom to the inside of the larger bottom tab. Then take the right side and put Scor-Tape onto the places as shown in the photo below, and put glue onto the little bottom tab. Remove the protective strips on the Scor-Tape, adhering the angled piece to the inside of the left piece, and at the same time carefully tuck in and adhere the little tab on the bottom. It should now look like the photo below.





















7. The next step is to glue the front piece to the back piece, creating a box by tucking the back into the front. Use your bone folder to make sure your joins are secure.

8. For the decorative band at the center of the box, you can now take the 1 ¼” x 12” strip of cardstock and starting from the back side, wrap it all the way around to the back, overlapping the ends by approximately ½”. Holding it in place, slightly pinch the band at the corners and then take it off and use your bone folder to get a good fold for each corner. You can then glue the band on all the way around.

*** Finished box size: 6” x 4 ¾” x 1”

Criss-Cross Card Box

Well, I'm feeling under the weather today. But not so sick that I had to lay down... instead I worked on making this card box that I had in my mind, and worked on a tutorial to go with it. It's my first tutorial, so I have to make sure I have the bugs worked out before I share it with everybody. So if you're interested, check back in a couple of days and hopefully I'll have it posted here to share with all of you.

I asked some fellow CTMH Consultants to try my tutorial out to make sure it's good before I post it, because my head is somewhat discombobulated right now. (Is that even a word???) Lisa S. mentioned that there's a tutorial by Nichole Heady for a Criss-Cross box, so of course I had to check it out. It's awesome! It looks like it makes a 3" wide by 4 1/4" tall x 1" deep box.

So it seems like there's no such thing as a new idea anymore. Who knows, somewhere along the way, I may have seen someone's project using her tutorial and it stuck in the recesses of my mind. Hard to say.

I designed my card box to hold 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" cards with envelopes, so it's a good size, measuring 6" tall x 4 3/4" wide x 1" deep. Don't forget to check back for my first ever tutorial! Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait. ;)
