Blog Candy Alert!

It's MLK, Jr Day...and in celebration of the holiday and of upcoming CHA, Kate at i {heart} papers has allowed me to choose some blog candy for you! Sweet 'n Sassy Blog Hop!

Hello everyone! Happy New Year!

I'm so excited that this first day of 2009 is also my very first day on the Sweet 'n Sassy Design Team! We have all been busy behind the scenes, so I hope you enjoy these sneak peeks of some fabulous new stamp sets and that you'll join us tomorrow night on the Sweet 'n Sassy forum for the release party. To entice you to come, I am giving you a little preview of a project that I have been working on...the pic of the whole thing won't be posted until the festivities at the forum are well on their way.

In celebration of our new design team's debut, Korin has given each of us some blog candy to give away. Mine is the set, Floral Flourishes, which I used to faux emboss the background of this Basic Gray Basic Grey card. I stamped the flourish on SU Basic Gray card stock, first with Night of Navy ink, then again with white craft ink. The designer paper is from Basic Grey's 6 x 6 Boxer pad. The scripture sentiment is from another new set, Love of a Friend...I know that this set is going to get a lot of use, especially for my Bible study girlfriends. I take a handful of cards in every week...there are always birthdays, anniversaries, illnesses, and sometimes simply the need for a little encouragement. These sentiments are perfect!

I hate to admit that I procrastinated about getting started early enough with Christmas because I just wasn't *in the mood* and I'm determined not to do that with my Valentine cards (thankfully there aren't as many!)...here's a chance for you to get a head start on yours too! With a Grateful Heart!

The i {heart} papers team was challenged to create a project with a theme of gratitude...so here is what I came up with. My priority was much more function than beauty. I needed a way to keep a running list of who/what I need cards for, so I made a little book to keep track. I thought this gorgeous Wassail snow flurries paper was generic enough to last well beyond the holidays, so I covered some chipboard book covers with it. Then I used some scraps of textured ivory paper to cover chipboard {} and heart shapes (I'm so grateful to be a part of this awesome team!), which I inked with Tim Holtz distress inks. They came out darker and pinker than I really wanted, so I grabbed some acrylic paint and swiped across them with my fingers. I wanted them to look similar to the appearance of the coral/pink tones of the subtle accents of the paper. I chose not to add any other embellishments because of the bulk...I want it to lay flat so I will be able to write in it easily.


The inside pages were printed on my computer. Facing pages have a list for the person's name and the occasion for the card on one side and a calendar on the other.

The whole thing is held together by 1-inch ring binder clips, which I dressed up just a bit with a couple of velvet ribbon scraps from my ribbon jar.

Blog Candy Alert and Yesterday's Sketch

I made this card a few days ago, thinking that I was sending it to a friend's daughter who is in the hospital, but when I showed it to my Bible study girls (I take my week's worth of cards to show them each Wednesday) it got scarfed up as a birthday card, so I made another pink card using yesterday's SCS sketch and the same image.

I am pleased with the way they each turned out, but for a young girl, I really like the softness of the second one. It is so soft and serene, sparkly and sweet...kinda sugar and spice like little girls are supposed to be!

I was thinking that I would post direct links to the blog candy that my i {heart} papers design teams are giving away, but after being awake and visiting their blogs in the middle of a kinda sleepless night, I'm gonna recommend that you visit each of them and search for the candy in the process! They've uploaded some amazing creations that you won't want to miss!
