Making Applesauce

Recently my family has been into applesauce. I buy a jar and it is gone within 24 hours no lie. Well one day last week David got a bee in his bonnet to make applesauce from the apples in the fridge. After my feeble attempts to distract him by doing something else, I finally gave in and thought, hey, this is why I stay home, right? So I can do things with my kids like make homemade applesauce... maybe. Anyway, David is my patient mischevious one so if nothing else I knew it would mean he was not getting into mischief while doing it all himself, which always makes for a good combination for some quiet time for me. So, he peeled, cored and then slowly but surely chopped the 6 apples it was going to take to make this applesauce. Can you tell by the look on his face how much he loved using the knife???
So then he added the ingredients to the pan and we waited for them to cook.
It was looking good, and making my house smell even better. I admit, I was super excited to try this applesauce! So when it was done and he took his first bite, I couldn't help laugh out loud at the expression on his face as he politely set down the spoon, walked over to the fridge and took out the jar of store bought applesauce and poured himself a bowl. I guess I could have pureed it all to make it seem more like the stuff from the store, but I couldn't bring myself to it because I thought it was delicious just as it was to me one of those experiences from childhood to put in the baby book. He literally spent hours making this stuff.
