News flash

A few news items:

No More Diapers

Yes, it is true. I am officially done buying diapers. Grace started potty training a week ago Thursday and has never looked back. She is a big girl who wears big girl underpants AND keeps them dry. I could not be any more proud! Now I can tell you the actual truth is that David still wears pull ups at night, so I am still paying for some sort of diaper, but that doesn't count. Grace actually stays dry all night, so I just need to get working on David at night. Some kids just have a hard time with that. I wish I had a cute and discrete picture of her sitting on the potty but I don't. I'll work on capturing that one next week.

3 Goals in One Game

Joseph scored three games this past Saturday in his soccer game against the Raptors. Unfortunately, neither of us got to witness the heat produced on the field because Dad was taking baby sister to the potty and Mom was helping clean the church building. He was all pumped up after the game it was fun to see.

Schools Out!!

The kids had their last day Thursday and now we are officially on summer break! I can't help but get Will Smith running through my head when I think about summer time. So just sit back and unwind.... Plans for our summer include, heading to Houston for a week or so, reading lots of books, going to the science museum in OK City we have heard so much about, riding bikes, saying goodbye to TWO of our best friend families here who are both deserting us before the end of the summer (I am trying the denial approach and pretending it isn't true), swimming, attempting to keep up on math skills with a program I bought for them (I'm calling it "school for David" and having the older kids be the helpers to try and disguise it for what it really is), heading to Wisconsin to visit my parents and go to Mackinaw Island up in Michigan, having grandparents visit us, relax, and hopefully have lots of fun! My goal is to be so patient with the kids while they are home and have such good, fun, productive, non-fighting-with-each-other days with them that I won't count down the days to school starting again in August like I did last summer. Good luck, right? Well, David gets to start a half day pre-K program so there is no doubt he is super excited for that and so am I. It is always so fun for a child who has waited and waited for their turn to go to school to FINALLY be going himself. He is ready to go right now! I am definitely looking forward to the afternoons he is in school and Gracie is taking her nap and I will have MY time during nap time again.

Hopefully summer works out according to the master plans made by mom.... we will see!

Handy Man Derrick

It is never good to come home to a puddle of water seeping from under a wall in your garage. First glance looked like a washer problem because the water was seeping from under the wall where the washing machine sits. Test the washer, no leakage. Turn on the air conditioner for another hot day in Oklahoma, and magically another puddle from the wall appears. Luckily the puddle is appearing in the garage and not in the house anywhere and luckily we have a nice blower of air to dry it up real quick, however, not looking forward to what the air conditioner man has to say in the morning. Casually tonight (after two really warm days in our house waiting for Monday to call) I mention to Derrick he might take a peak in the attic where the air conditioner unit is just to see what he can see. 5 minutes later he comes back down, smile on face and says, "fixed!" It was fortunately just a pipe that got bumped and was leaking in to the wall where the puddle was forming from. He was able to easily move the pipe back in to where it was supposed to be and we should be able to get it all dry with the blower in a matter of days. After 10 years of marriage, I am so happy for the confidence boost he gets anytime he fixes something on his own, and so grateful for the influence and example of others (brother in law Ryan) because he never considered himself handy, but lately he is venturing into the world of fixing it yourself. Handy or not, I love him the same but it sure is nice not to pay someone to come and push a pipe back into place... :)
