Cousins!

While we were in Utah we got to go to two weddings! Derrick's cousin Kevin got married in the Bountiful temple on Friday and our friend Todd Petersen got married in Draper temple on Saturday. What a great opportunity to go to two!! Aunt Lindsey and Aunt Becky watched our kids outside on Friday. It was so fun to see them and to spend time with Derrick's family as well. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of that time, I think I lost my camera in the car after driving up to Idaho. Oh well.

Too Cute!!

The cousins got to play! Grace was sleeping most of the time but she had some good time with Julia, her cousin that is 3 months older than her. We can't wait for them to have more play time this summer at our reunion. Julia took a special liking to Derrick with a big hug outside the temple. We had been told she doesn't give many hugs like that to anyone but her mom, and Derrick was eating it up! So cute!Hannah made friends with a little worm she met on the tree outside.

Our drive to Utah

We had such a great time driving to Utah this weekend. I was worried about the drive but the kids did great. We stayed in a hotel on the night in between driving days and had so much fun in the swimming pool. I love this shot of Gracie's cute swimming suit with the thighs to boot.
Swimming was definitely the highlight of the drive. The other highlight from driving was getting to see my friend Amber and her cute kids on one of our stops along the way.
And in 3 weeks we will get to do it all again!

Im not that great...

On our vacation this weekend I had multiple people say, "wow, your such a good gardener, I wish I could do that..." Well, people you can do it! For real, it is not me. Unless if you consider finding a book on Amazon, purchasing, reading and doing what it says is something special, but really, I think anyone who wants to square foot garden could do it too. Anyway, just wanted to say, it wasn't that hard, just try it for yourself and you will see. click on the book if you want some help or just borrow mine.

Summer break

You remember that feeling you have knowing you don't have to go back to school for the whole summer??? It is almost as good for the mother!! No more helter skelter getting out the door by 8:15 every morning. I am ready for that! But I also remember being so excited to go back in the fall and I am sure I will be ready for that as well when the time comes. Hannah and Joey had their last day of 1st grade and kindergarten last Wednesday. We picked them up for school and headed on our road trip to Utah (see next post). On the morning of his last day, Joey had a really cool field trip to the Hands on Health center at our hospital here. It is really cool considering what a small town we live in. They have a part where you put your hands under this special light and it shows you where all the germs are on your hands. Then you scrub your hands and put them under again and see how you did. It was pretty cool to see how really well you need to wash to get all the germs off... I appreciated it anyway. Then after you do that you go into "surgery" where Joey got to pretend he was the surgeon with his classmates. There were lots of neat learning experiences, this one was giving the kids a chance to push themselves in a wheelchair and try to open a door to see how hard it is. And then of course the walking through a brain and looking out the eye followed by sliding down the yellow junk coming out the nose. At the top there are things telling the kids all about the brain and its amazing functions.

If you like to waltz with potatoes.....

Here is the garden. I would say it is growing like weeds except for there are no weeds! This is what attracted me to square foot gardening, and so far, I have been very pleased with the lack of weeding that I do. (or don't do) If you see my tall square box on the left of the photo above it is my potatoes. I have never grown potatoes before, and they are so exciting because they are growing so fast and so big. It is like, I cover the plant with dirt one morning and by the next morning, there is a whole new taller plant there to be buried. I can't wait to find potatoes growing in there! Anyway, maybe my favorite thing right now is the swiss chard which is a really high vitamin veggie eaten like lettuce that just keeps producing all year.(its next to the big cabbage below) It is so pretty and so wonderful because I don't have to buy lettuce and it never goes bad in my fridge because it is just waiting out there to be harvested.

You can see I have my tomatoes in, I am excited for them to grow tall up the verticle frames I made and have big juicy tomatoes on them. And Joey's corn is doing really well on the far side by the fence. Those empty squares are waiting for my peppers to go in them and also I am staggering my bean planting so we can have beans all summer long. Anyway, Im so excited about my garden so I share a lot about it, sorry if you are bored by vegetables.
