Gift Box and Tag

DSCF1318

Howdy, peeps!  Sneaking in this afternoon (before I start baking some cookies) with a little gift box and tag with a country feel:

DSCF1315

This little box is one of my favorites, but I can’t find it on SCS and I am pretty sure that’s where I got it!  I like to make these and fill them with candy and a gift card for my nieces and nephews for Christmas!   It was cut from a kraft Christmas paper slab I got recently; I used SU’s Holiday Collection Framelit to cut out the Christmas tree opening, then used white Stazon to stamp some snowflakes on a piece of acetate and backed the opening with it:

I added a glimmer paper star and a sentiment I had made for another card, but ended up not using!  Glad to get that off my desk!  I added a little “bow” from some of the crinkly paper stuff that I can’t remember the name of:

DSCF1317

And since I had the Christmas tree diecut also laying on my desk, I made a tag, (which I don’t normally do because they get tossed in the trash), but the CASual Fridays challenge 80 this week is tags, so I went for it!

A scrap of Cherry Cobbler, another glimmer star and it was done!  The box is for The Kraft Journal’s Make it Monday challenge of Holiday Gifts.  Thanks for visiting today!

I took a little walk with Cassidy up to my SIL’s yesterday, as she had all four of her grandchildren there, ranging in age from from 2 weeks to 2 1/2 years!  What a fun day!  Cassidy was trying to play with one-year-old Jack, but every time she gave him a toy, he threw it on the floor…which he thought was great fun, but Cassidy didn’t understand the game!

She said, “HERE….TAKE IT!”  Can you see that look of frustration?!  LOL!

Gift Box Tutorial

I promised to show a tutorial on how to make the gift box shown here:

DSCF6913

I am not real good at tutorials, but I am going to give it a shot! This box measures approximately 5” x 6” and is 1 3/4” high. It is assembled like most boxes, but if you’ve never made a box, I will give some quick details as I go along. My sample will be a different color than the one above! So lets go! First, I’ll give you the products you’ll need:

  • Cardstock in your choice of colors
  • Window sheets or transparencies
  • Rectangle scalloped Nestabilities and diecutting machine
  • Scallop edge punch, if desired
  • Strong adhesive
  • Fiskars Personal Cutter or Exacto Knife & Ruler

Second, here are the dimensions of each piece:

  • Box – 8 1/2” x 9 1/2” – score at 1 3/4” on all four sides
  • Lid – 8 1/16” x 7 1/16” – score at 1” on all four sides
  • Scalloped Window Panel – 4 3/4” x 5 3/4”
  • Transparency – 5” x 6” – may need to trim a tiny bit off each side.
  • Edited to add: The original measurements for the lid were incorrect (score at 2") so I have corrected them! SO SORRY!

DSCF6955

To make the box, fold on score lines; cut on the sides as shown by the black lines.

DSCF6958

Fold flaps in; apply tape or adhesive on the areas that say “tape”.

DSCF6960

Fold in the taped sides to make the box. I like to use clothes pins, as you can see!

DSCF6961

Now for the lid, fold on score lines, just like the box. Don’t cut the corners quite yet.

DSCF6964

Using a cutting system like a Fiskars with a sliding cutter, or an Exacto knife and a ruler, cut an inside window from the top of the lid, leaving 1/4” border from the score lines.

DSCF6967

To cut the scallop window in my top panel, I use a Nestability that measures about 3 1/4 x 4”. Lay it at the top portion of the panel (I just sort of eyeballed it as to how far down to bring it); a couple pieces of tape ensure that it doesn’t slip around. Run it through your die cutting machine.

DSCF6969

Now reposition the Nestie so that it will cut out the remaining portion. You’ll have a section that will not make a cut. Make sure that your scallops line up with the previous cut:

DSCF6971

Here you can see the back side….see how they match? Again, tape helps! Now finish the cut.

DSCF6975

This is what your piece should look like.

DSCF6976

Now adhere this piece to the lid, centering the panel over the cut portion. A thin line of Tombow Multiglue works well. I like to fold my edges in to make sure the piece looks centered. At this point, adhere your window sheet or transparency to the back of the opening in the panel. You can also cut the sides to begin to form the lid.

DSCF6979

If you want to scallop the edge of your lid, fold back one of the tabs and run your punch along the edge.

DSCF6985

When you do the other edge, trim the tab like this so that when you fold it under, it won’t show beneath the scallops. I like to use Sticky Strip for these tabs since they are small.

DSCF6992

Assemble the lid just like the box….now put it on the box and you’re done!

DSCF6993

You can add any kind of decoration or ribbon you like. Hope this was clear enough, and feel free to show us what you come up with! Any questions, just email me!

Baby Shower Gift

My niece is expecting in a couple months, so as one of her shower gifts, I made a set of 20 thank you cards.  This is the invitation her sister sent:

DSCF6905

And I must apologize for these photos---for some reason, Sage Shadow and my camera just do not get along.  The colors in the invite are actually Chocolate Chip, Sage Shadow, Pumpkin Pie and Green Galore, although it looks more like Kiwi Kiss in my photo!  Anyhoo, I took the colors along with the sailboat from Nursery Necessities to make these:

DSCF6904

DSCF6906

I stamped the boat in each of the three colors, cut the pieces apart, then reassembled them so that each boat was made of three colors.  I then mounted them on a 1 3/4” circle and a scalloped Nestie.  The sentiment is from Trendy Trees.  Then, I made a box with a transparent lid:

And tied it up with a beautiful satin bow and a little matching tag:

She always comments on my cards, so I am hoping she will like these as well!  Thanks for stopping by today!  Tomorrow I’ll show you the card I made for the gift itself.  Totally different!

I had a request for the pattern for the card & nugget box shown here.  Here it is; thanks so much to Becky Roberts for her fantastic creations!!!  Enjoy!

Long Post: Blog Candy Winner and a Rabbit Show

Over the past weekend, one of my projects at the retreat was to make a set of notecards to donate to my sister’s Rabbit Show.  Now the girls that I was stamping with thought the term “Rabbit Show” was the most hysterical thing they ever heard of!  Growing up in a farm/4H mentality, I was familiar with “shows”—but I guess they weren’t!  Anyway, after her daughter began raising rabbits for 4H, my sister became actively involved with the Pennsylvania Rabbit Breeders Association as well as the 4H group, and during their convention this weekend (snow or not!), they will have a little fundraiser table, so that’s what my card set is for!  Her rabbits are soooo cute and often win ribbons at her “shows”!!  But before I show you that, I want to announce the winner of my blog candy from this post!  All the ideas were great---most of them involved some bling, glitter and CANDY!  It was hard to choose the best idea, so I just did a random pull and Sherry Bee was the winner!!!  SO she will be getting the Cuddles & Hugs set!

On to the Rabbit Show stuff—here is the basket, not decorated yet, but I am running out of time:

DSCF6682

Yes, the Love box is included, along with a post-it note holder and pen:

The newly-blinged up Love box (I did add a little tiny bit of bling in the form of some heart-shaped rhinestones I found and some flat hologram stickers and of course, candy!):

DSCF6675

And the note cards, all made with Cosmo Cricket papers and the absolutely adorable PTI set, Tiny Treats: Valentine.  Here are all ten, real quick:

That’s it for now…..I have a couple other things on deck.  We are gearing up for a major snow storm this weekend—I am psyched!!!  Have a great Friday, everyone!

A Box and A Bucket

I have been wanting to try one of these boxes by Lauren Meader since Easter.....they are so cute, very easy, and lend themselves to all kinds of occasions! I have an upcoming stamp club and like to make something a little special for the hostess, so this may go to her. Just haven't decided yet! I am not very creative when it comes to making things other than cards, so I am very grateful to creative geniuses like Lauren!! Thanks, Lauren!

Hostess Basket Lauren

Stamps: Enjoy Every Moment, Fresh Cuts

Paper: Soft Sky, Sahara Sand, Fall Flowers DP, Whisper White

Ink: Soft Sky, Old Olive

Acc: Nestabilities, Soft Sky Ribbon, Small Oval Punch, Sticky Strip, Crystal Effects

I cut a leaf and a stem right from the DP. This was a blast to make! The bottom piece was glued with Crystal Effects and the sides with Sticky Strip.

Hostess Can

This cute little paint can is one I picked up at ACM; the DP is just sitting inside and the outside strip is fastened with Sticky Strip. The can is decorated with various images from Simply Said.

Notice the different ribbons on the handle. I didn't have any Groovy Guava ribbon, so I dyed my white taffeta with some ink from my reinker. I dried it with my heat tool, and I had a custom-color ribbon! The big green flower is DP, punched with the scallop punch and slit to make petals.

Hope this inspires you to try some different things today! I have more ideas in my head, hopefully I'll post some soon. Have a blessed day!
