* A sign up form for the Free Software Supporter on every page. As this is currently being provided in English only, this is not urgent for all translations. I'm also aware that other translations have much wider header graphics. * Look and feel of headings. We've been playing around with a new style for headings on some of the FSF websites for a while now. Now its time to bring those to gnu.org -- this shouldn't cause any major problems, but keep an eye out for the edge cases, please. * Changes to the navigation bar. The FSF would like to ensure its easy for people to join the FSF, and so adding a join link to the navigation today. * Changes to the homepage. Stephen Fry is now relegated to the right hand side of the screen, with "Freedom Fry" now changed to a regular h2 tag. This replaces the Free Software Supporter box for the English version. Translators can copy this style if they like, or keep things as they are. Also, the 'more information' section is now on the left, rather than the right, to balance the columns out. Stephen will be on our homepage for the next year, so we should find a comfortable place for him. * Changes to the search box. The search box has been moved to the navigation bar. This makes it a little easier to see, and makes better use of the space. * Changes to urgent items. These are now on the homepage only. RMS wants them to be visible on the homepage, so they're right at the top in a snazzy green box. This should be pretty simple for all translations to implement, and it would be a good thing to keep an eye on. Overall, it makes the homepage a little tighter, gets more information on the screen for the user, which is good. One thing I would like to do, going forward is find a way we can make the translations links more visible. Ideally, at the very top of the page.

development stylesheet (alternative) using Yahoo's YUI libraries. To test this, select the alternative stylesheet in Firefox-type browsers by clicking View > Page Style > Development CSS. You should see the page background appear striped. This lets you know you're looking at the development version (and tells developers that when looking at screenshots) -- the YUI library should fix any weird issues relating to our reset.css. In order to implement this, I have moved the contents of style.css to layout.css and now both yui.css (this dev stylesheet) and style.css both reference layout.css, and import different reset sheets. I am confident this will make some of our pages look weird. Please help fix them by sending screenshots and bug reports to webmasters@gnu.org Karl/Yavor -- feel free to assign these bug report tickets to me in RT :) Ultimately, this will make our website look more consistent across all browsers, which is the goal of the reset.css and has been the goal with removing explicit font names from our stylesheet. The YUI fonts sheet DOES refer to specific fonts, but does so in a way that is known to work well on non-GNU platforms as well. Please do not edit any of the yui-* css files directly. Any overrides can be and should be applied inside of yui.css itself. -- matt
