Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. About me: Enthusiastic amateur gardener and photographer from Vaxholm, Sweden. Designed and built my Greenhouse and Potager in Tyra's Garden 2003. Show Auricula 'Fred Booley'

This post 'Show Auricula 'Fred Booley' was originally uploaded by Tyra Hallsénius Lindhe in the blog Tyras Trädgård/ Tyras Garden

So he decided to pay me a visit this year as well. He sure looks ravishing...eye-catching as always.  I’m so delighted to see that he is in such a good health. I mean, the winter was extremely hard-hitting for all the little auriculas.

Fred is an Englishman and he came from Drointon’s a few years ago.

You can get both the garden auriculas as well as the show auriculas delivered from  Drointon’s (UK). In Sweden you have Ray’s Perennials that you can buy them from. I would love to go and visit Ray (also an Englishman) but I don’t know if I dare to, it is going to be sooo costly. Although, I could take my Mini, then at least I have a very limited space to fill with plants.

If you're not good at my native tongue, you can always push the transalte button.

Today's Flower - Auricula

My pretty Auriculas are all 'in floribus' now. Some of them didn't survive our though winter unfortunately. But this one did, isn’t pretty?

Here is an other one...

PRIMULA - The First

The First - Primula

A bit pale from the tough winter and the lack of bright light...

Who isn't ? I am!

"Primula (pronounced /ˈprɪmjʊlə/)[1] is a genus of 400–500 species of low-growing herbs in the family Primulaceae. They include primrose, auricula, cowslip and oxlip. Many species are grown for their ornamental flowers. They are native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, south into tropical mountains in Ethiopia, Indonesia and New Guinea, and in temperate southern South America.Perennial primulas bloom mostly during the spring; their flowers can be purple, yellow, red, pink, or white. Generally, they prefer filtered sunlight. Many species are adapted to alpine climates." Primula wikipedia

This is the first Primula Auricula for the season, this little fellow is planted in a pot and has been in the greenhouse the whole cold winter and now in late March it's in floribus.

Family: Primulaceae    Genus: Primula    Species: P. auricula

Garden Bloggers' Blooms Day - Potager & Greenhouse

This post 'Garden Bloggers' Blooms Day - Potager & Greenhouse' was originally uploaded by Tyra in the blog Tyra's Garden

...
October started out with harsh winds and some tough cold days with frost at night. It is slowing down in the garden, the harvest is thinning out although I still find some late 'treasures' in the potager. It's Garden Bloggers Bloom Day once again and thanks to Carol of May Dreams Gardens, we get to see all the lovely in gardens around the world and what is 'in floribus' just now, fascinating isn't it.

One of the last roses...I think, you never know

Auricula
This Auricula is generally a spring flower, but this Primula auricula one just wanted to get some fresh autumn air.

Geramiums in the greenhouse

The Cichorium has been 'in floribus' in my potager since June

Gerbera in the greenhouse, I think a wonderful splash of colour ...

Kaprifol

This Honeysuckle is a cutting I took from the mother plant in July and it spreads a wonderful fragance in the greenhouse at the moment.

Here comes the sun tadadada... (I'm singing the Beatles song) Calendula officinalis is another 'sun' in the potager, self sown, I like that, here in good company with the parsley.

and the last picture is of my monk in the potager 'Franciscus cupani'

That's all folks!

A Theater in the Garden

This post, "A Theater in the Garden" was originally uploaded and written by Tyra at the blog
Tyra's Garden

This is the new small building project for Tyra's Garden 2009
...
-..
I'm going to build myself a theater. A theater for my Auriculas. I love to design and build all kind of things in wood and when I saw this Auricula Theater in Gothenburg last summer I just fell in love with it. In this picture you can see that is not Auriculas that are on display, I think there where Geraniums actually and that works excellent too don't you think? Perhaps I shall just call it a Plant Theater instead.
...
I can imagine it would look great with just green plants too. Hedera, Sedums and Sempervivums to mention a few.
What do you think isn't just lovely?
