Tyra's Garden is a small garden on the island of Resarö situated in the inner part of the archipelago near the small town Vaxholm, outside Stockholm. Tyra's Garden is mostly an ornamental vegetable garden, my potager. But flowers are of course an important ingredience, for beauty and pollination. The climate in these parts is quite demanding as the northerly winds can be strong and cold. THIS BLOG 'Tyra's Garden' is not entirely a gardenblog it contains much more. About me: Enthusiastic amateur gardener and photographer from Vaxholm, Sweden. Designed and built my Greenhouse and Potager in Tyra's Garden 2003. Love the outdoor life, gardening and sailing especially. View my profile

Prosperous Garden...Yes please!

Well one can always dream can't I?

- It is so exciting to open this 'book' and turn the page to a perfectly blank unwritten sheet and start a brand new chapter of the Tyra's Garden story. I say welcome to the growing season of 2011; I have so many dreams and plans...no gigantic plans and project rather a lot of ideas how I can achieve a prosperous garden. Both when it comes to the beauty aspect, but perhaps even more important to get a sustainable, flourishing and 'tasty' potager that gives me a good yield.

During 2011, I have plans like to build new cold frames, a ladder for the apple trees, plant more ornamental grasses and last but not least I would also like to make plans for more winter gardening. I would like to stretch my growing season although I haven't got the solutions to that issue yet. I got this book by Eliot Coleman Four-Season Harvest and after reading a few chapters I was hooked on the idea!

Coming soon: More about Four-Season Gardening in the blog The Greenhouse...
and in Swedish in the Kitchen Garden KÖKSTRÄDGÅRDEN

January the first

I have this song in my head today and I think it is a great song for the first day of the rest of my life.
