We're heading to a friends house to ring in the new year. I ask you, is there anything better than ringing in the new year with family and friends? :)

Got a quick card to share for the Waltzing Mouse sketch challenge and the Curtain Call color challenge.

I tried my hand at a fan fold flower - there's a video tutorial HERE. I've seen these beauties cropping up all over the place so it was about time to give it a go :)

Enjoy family, friends and be thankful for all the blessings in your life :) I hope y'all are better at keeping your resolutions than I am - LOL!!! 2011 New Year's Resolution: "Must do better job of keeping New Year's resolutions".  Here's to a wonderful 2011!!!

Round Christmas tag

Can you believe that Christmas is 2 1/2 weeks away?!?! And I have literally NO shopping done yet! Looks like I'll be hitting Amazon and other online sites for the bulk of it :) I do love this time of year though!

The sketch for this week's Waltzing Mouse sketch challenge is a round one. It stumped me for a bit - I don't make round cards often - I have trouble with shapes other than rectangles I guess LOL! Then I thought I'd make a round tag in the form of the sketch - perfect! I used the Play Date Cafe's colors for inspiration. I love the colors they chose - simple red and white!

The PTI Peaceful Poinsettia set is so wonderful and versatile. Definitely a go-to stamp set at Christmas time :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I really dislike being sick

I often forget that with this gorgeous, utterly pleasant time of year is accompanied by an unpleasant cohort - cold and flu season. Yep, I have managed to find a virus that has set up shop and called me home. Yuck. I'm in a bit of a fog but I'll do my best to stay coherent :)

To distract me while my cold medications kick in, I'll share a bright and cheery card I made this weekend. I'm playing along with the latest lovely Curtain Call Color Challenge using this week's awesome Waltzingmouse Sketch.

I made these cute little paper flowers using PTI's beautiful blooms III dies. I curled the petals by wrapping them around the metal part of an embossing tool. Wish I could say it was my idea :) I took the inspiration from Lisa Somerville with THIS absolutely fabulous card. I drew a square using a red Spica pen, leaving a small opening for the sentiment. Then I masked off the edges, stamped polka dots in versa mark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. A subtle, neat effect, seen a little better in the next photo.

This card also qualifies for Little Red Wagon challenge, which is to use 3 of something on your card.

That's it for me. My Nyquil is kicking innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.......... :)

Have a good one! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Create For Fun Inaugural Color Challenge!

Yesterday, my friendly neighborhood UPS dropped off a box full of Papertrey Ink goodies...mmmmm. Tonight I got the chance to ink some up - YAY!!! I sure am glad I had some time to ink up the new products because my sweet friend Mona has started a new challenge, Create for Fun (CR84FN - how cute is that?) !!!! Mona is the owner of the blog, Cupcake's Creations - if you haven't seen her amazing work, you HAVE to swing by and check it out! In addition to being super talented, Mona is the sweetest person and has been a very supportive friend :) So I'm so excited that she's started this new challenge and we get to play along with her!!!! Her inaugural color challenge is a great one too. These colors were just perfect for my new PTI sets, Holly Jolly and Big and Bold Holiday Wishes :) I used this week's fantastic Waltzing Mouse sketch for inspiration.

I stamped the holly background in versamark and heat embossed with white powder. I also found a package of larger 1 inch epoxy stickers which fit perfectly over the dated stamp from the Holly Jolly set. I also used another new toy - the diamond impression plate from PTI. I did a faux letterpress technique on red cardstock and I love the way it turned out! Big and Bold Wishes is a fav set and I just had to have the holiday version!

Head on over to check out Mona's color challenge, CR84FN!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Wishing you all the best

Aren't the PDC colors fantastic?!?!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I LOVE the Waltzing Mouse sketches!!! They're CAS but you can really interpret them in so many ways.

My take on the WM sketch isn't the long card suggested by the sketch; I stuck to a more traditional format. I'm a wimp when it comes to differently shaped cards for some odd reason. I stamped on vellum in white ink and colored on the opposite side. I really love vellum - so many different effects and a nice way to soften the look of a card. I used Copics to color on the vellum. I also dusted off the seam binding - oh how I missed you, dear friend :) I colored it with a combo of Copic markers and Waterfall glimmer mist for a two toned effect. It was quite dark in places and looked somewhat tie-dyed so I added a bit of colorless blender to soften it some. Back to my trusty ol' sewing machine to top 'er off and voila!

I've got a Spencer update: It's been a long couple of weeks (3 and a half to be exact) for the big brown dog. His wound was healing really slowly so he had another surgery last Wednesday for a skin graft. We're a few bandage changes in a things are looking *fingers crossed* pretty good. The surgery crew always treat him to fun, colorful bandages too - here's a picture of him with his little Canadian bandage honor of our homeland :) (this one was taken before his skin graft - his bandage is considerably bigger now);

Such a good boy! Although, I am a bit biased ;)

Waltzing along

Evening all!

Very quick post - soooo tired :)

I made the Waltzing Mouse sketch challenge deadline!!! Sorry, I get excited when I can keep minor things straight these days :)

I really wanted to use a panel of felt but it looked plain but itself so I decided to sew a diagonal pattern to add a little something-something.

Hope you like it! Off to bed!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

World Equestrian Games, here we come!

For the first time ever, the World Equestrian games are being held outside of Europe - they're in my backyard...well, practically :) The Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY is the venue for this exciting event, and I've had tickets now for over a year! We're heading over today to see the Grand Prix freestyle dressage finals - I can't wait to see the internationally renowned horses and riders!!!!

Before I head off, thought I'd share another card. This one is for the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge and the Embellish Magazine color challenge. I realized just this morning, however, I missed the WMSC deadline!!!! Doh! Oh well, here it is anyway :)

On the close up of the flowers, you can see I tried to dress up the flowers a little using silver microbeads. Thought they needed just a little something :)

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday. The weekend is just one day away!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Color Horribilis :)

Looking for my JUGS post? Click HERE.

How great is that title?

That's the name of the most recent Play Date Cafe color challenge. The object being to use colors that don't appear to go together. I have to admit, the colors scared me a bit at first... but I went for it. Especially since I have had virtually no crafting time in the past two weeks. Combine that with the fact that I L-O-V-E the Waltzing Mouse Sketches, I absolutely HAD to indulge my habit :)

I really like the On My Couch series from PTI (actually, it's the companion set, Chair-ished) and wanted to ink them up badly.

Whew, these colors were hard for me to put together! I fought the urge to make pretty much everything white with just pops of color, as that's my typical tendency with colors I find more difficult to combine.

I had to "felt piece" the cute little chair - just love the texture it gives the chair.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Whew, the heat wave here in eastern TN just keeps chugging right along... Wow. Thank goodness for AC. Seriously. Is it hot in your neck of the woods?

The hubby and I have been working on getting our covered deck tiled. This is our first attempt at tiling and I'd be lying if I told you that everything has gone smoothly :) Let me put it this way, we're a learn-through-mistakes kinda couple when it comes to home improvement :D I can tell you that you can replace tile once mortar has set (no grout yet) to fix mistakes. How do I know this? My poor, well-meaning hubby laid a bunch of tile a few days ago - by himself. I know, isn't he a trooper?! Towards the end he was getting tired and in his haste, failed to realize that a few tiles had gotten out of line. Opps. So the mortar dried then along comes me to point out his mistakes. I did do it gently, as I realized how hard he hard worked a few days prior. But me, being the obsessive, straight lines, symmetry-loving person I am, couldn't let it go and not mention it. Today, we fixed it though - a hammer, chisel and a few tile later, we're all set and on the right track again. The wayward tile came up quite easily, with no damage to the underlayment or the tile. Just a little more time than we'd planned :) Whew!!! Live and learn, live and learn...

Then I had a bit of time to spend in the craft room. So I made a card for the Play Date Cafe using the Waltzing Mouse Sketch.

Love the WMSC! The sketches are graphically simple but certainly can be dolled up any way you please. I had digital vintage script paper that I printed then distressed with ink and my scissors. I stamped a few butterflies over top. I colored one of the butterflies with my Copic markers. The ribbon is ruffled a la Ashley Cannon Newell - she has a great video tutorial HERE. Mine isn't nearly as pretty as hers but I love the treatment so I'll get a bit more practice :)

Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by - I sincerely appreciate each and every one of you :)

Mmm, I love purple

I do. I really love purple. Well, I love color. I don't really have a favorite. Different colors for different circumstances :)

On that note, I have a very purple card to share with y'all.

I went without a sentiment on the front, "au naturel" if you will :) The colors are from the Play Date Cafe - how fresh and fun are these colors?! I love lupins - reminds me of my childhood. They grew wild all around our house.

The sketch is from Waltzing Mouse...
Love the Waltzing Mouse sketches - pretty clean and simple. This is the inside is also fairly simple...

Finally, the detail of the violet. The violet was colored with copics (V000, V12, V15, V99). I colored the center with a black spica but it's hard to see the glitter in the picture. Since I didn't have any lime green ribbon, I colored some seam binding with a copic (G14) - works like a charm :)

That's it for me. Thanks so much for stopping by. I really appreciate you taking the time to look around!
