More May

After our mini vacation we still had two more 'supervising Tuesdays' to catch up with Liam.
That turned out well, because we still owed it and Liam had chickenpox, so didn't go to daycare but came to play with us for an extra day. Fortunately, Liam had little trouble and quickly recovered completely after a day.

We also dined in the garden more often, with dinners prepared by Henk, with all the trimmings of course...

May is going well so far...

all about love

A mini photo report of the wedding of our friends Marieke & Stefan, or as we call them Marie & Steef...

Marieke is a wonderful friend and we share a lot of passions, like crochet, gardening (ginkgo's), Cuba, flowers, vintage, oldtimers and golden shoes.

Marieke and I met for the first time in October 2010, when she joined the crochet workshop for beginners I organized with Yvestown's Yvonne in Den Bosch, the Netherlands.

It was great fun and Marieke also joined the second crochet workshop in March 2011, this time for experienced crocheteers, haha.

From then on our friendship blossomed into something special.

Marieke joined me during the Cool Crochet workshop April 2015 with her niece Marleen. We had so much fun together and the three of us became soulmates! We share the same sense of humor and all three of us are equally emotional...

On Saturday we celebrated the wedding of Marie & Steef. Everything was right; the couple, love, fairytale setting, weather, atmosphere, live Cuban music, flowers (by Marleen), home baked cakes, champagne and all dear family and friends! And her husband Steef surprised her with a vintage Porsche on the wedding day, no doubt that almost everyone wanted to be photographed with that beauty!

Like Marie's father mentioned in his loving speech during dinner; 'Marie is a pearl!'

backyard vibes

backyard vibes backyard vibes

Backyard vibes.

New 'kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate' baby plants on the bench. I love the name of the plant and it is a very fast-growing annual that self-seeds in the fall. Once you’ve planted it, you’re likely to have the flower in that spot for years to come. While the plant can grow up to two meters high, it rarely, if ever, needs to be staked. They are seedlings from the Villa Augustus garden, where they returned a bit too abundantly.

And we've finally found a convivial parasol to replace the ripped Shady Lace umbrella, which broke down last summer after 13 years.

This May has been so good so far...

We already had quiet some breakfasts, lunches and dinners in the backyard. It feels like summer.

between the eucalyptus & ginkgo

Summer in May, at least that's how it feels in the garden lately.

We have a new evergreen in the backyard; an Eucalyptus Gunnii tree.

The small eucalyptus stands beside the ginkgo tree on the terrace. The new tree is an evergreen tree. The small round gray-green leaves give off a delicious eucalyptus smell. Especially when the leaf is bruised, a strong eucalyptus smell is released. Good thing is, mosquitoes hate this smell, so perfect for long summer evenings in the garden.

This afternoon we planted the new evergreen, a remembrance tree for Henk's mother, who passed away yesterday.

After gardening (we also repotted some plants and sowed flowers seeds) we had a tea between the trees and it felt special...
