Besides the fun of seeing the creation of the winning 101 characters cabinets, it was moreover a feast for me to walk around in the workplace at Piet Hein Eek.

To discover the (fun) details in every corner of the huge workplace and the pleasure to photograph in this wood heaven. It's so light in this former Philips factory and it was really cool to get a guide tour by the master himself. Piet Hein Eek told about the interesting story of his career and the development of his designs. For instance; he doesn't like to waste material and he never throws away anything and reuses wherever possible.

What particularly appealed to me was, how important it is to him, to create a fine workplace and make the conditions as pleasant as possible. As a fan of the first hour, it was an honor to get a chance to take a closer look in his workplace.

Well a fine place it certainly is.

All 101 finalists of the Histor cabinet design competition 1 cabinet - 101 characters were invited at Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven today.

Piet Hein Eek designed a cabinet especially for Histor. It's a cabinet on legs made of underlayment.
The cabinet is like a blank canvas. It's up to you how you want to paint it.

Everyone could join the Histor campaign '1 cabinet 101 characters' and submit their ideas for a unique character for an unpainted Piet Hein Eek cabinet.
With 2,000 special and inspiring entries within a period of two weeks, the campaign is a huge success! The 101 most extraordinary ideas for the cabinet were brought to life, in the workplace of Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven today.

I was invited to write an article on my blog and we got guide tour by Piet Hein Eek himself.
In the meantime all the winners started painting their cabinets in the giant and light workplace of the Piet Hein Eek factory. What an inspiring place, for me it was wood heaven...

It was interesting and striking to see how different the 101 cabinet designs have become. Many participants also made the inside of the cabinet a work of art. I must admit I already like the raw version of the cabinet and I've seen lots of lovely painted versions...

heisser stuhl

publication burda stylehalf in size, twice as nice publication burda stylepour les plus petits

Wood & wool xs stool in Burda Style's #9. Like-mother-like-daughter stools have been published in the September issue.

"Heisser Stuhl. Ingrid Jansen upcycelt Altholz zu bunten Hockern mit fröhlichem Wollbezug."

It sounds cool in German.
Meanwhile both stools are sold. The mini even moved to Japan. Of course I can always make new stools.

living & more

living & more, a photo by wood & wool stool on Flickr.

In the mail I received a lovely publication in the January issue of the German lifestyle magazine Living & More.
Quite nice of the editors in Germany to sent me two copies.
One magazine, I keep myself (for the archive) and the other one I would like to give away.
Leave a message and after the weekend we pick a winner!
It actually doesn't matter if you can or can not read German, it's an inspirational interior magazine anyway.

'dutch' editions de paris

Nederland, mijn interieur (Netherlands, my interior) is the newest edition of the Japanese interior book Editions de Paris.

The book contains twelve 'handmade' interiors in the Netherlands, including ours and some interior design shops and fine places.

The Japanese texts are indecipherable for me, but the photos and layout are a feast for the eyes and do compensate entirely, thanks to the creators Masami, Miho and Naomi.

post from lithuania

Today there was an envelope in the mail from Lithuania. My work has been published in the creative interior magazine Geros Idejos. Some months ago the editor Giedré asked me whether she could publish my work. In the list of unreadable publications it's a nice and colorful addition. Something to be proud of.

But what made me really proud today was Minne's report in the newspaper. Minne has applied as a freelance reporter and yesterday, his first assignment from the AD sports editor, was to report a football match. The funny thing is, he still has his other job and had to deliver his own news in his paper round this morning.

I've never had so much fun reading a football report.

impressed

impressed, originally uploaded by wood & wool stool.

During our first joint garden sale, Yvonne and I have exchanged quite a lot of stuff (we're like little children), including a red plastic plate rack. I still haven't found a suitable place in my kitchen and tried if it could serve perhaps as a magazine rack.

I grabbed the stack interior magazines, where my work was featured in and created a wood & wool stool publication rack.

maak het!

maak het!, originally uploaded by wood & wool stool.

Yesterday afternoon the author Machteld Stilting and most of the participants were united to celebrate the presentation of the book Maak het! (Make it!) After a warm welcome in Amersfoort, the book was presented. We all got our own book handed and everyone was curious about the result and in search of her own chapter. It was completely silent for a while and that is quite remarkable for this company. Maak het! has become an attractive and useful book with 20 portraits of creative women with a webshop, telling their personal inspirational stories illustrated with beautiful photographs.

It was nice to meet everyone in person. Some of them I knew already by internet, like Engel, Kinchi and of course my friend Nina who is also featured in the book. She brought me a set of her beautiful postcards.

When I got home, for the first time I really had time to sit down and read the book at ease and I am very happy with the result.

I was really touched by the story of Angélique of Zoet-stof. She makes these unique and most beautiful fabrics with embroidered words to comfort someone.

This book contains so many different kind of stories and also business tips from experts, that could be very useful when you are planning to start your own creative business.
