who (are you) : I'm Judy Kaufmann, a Barcelona based Illustrator who likes to
draw animals, people, houses, cars, trees and everything repeatedly. I work as a Freelance illustrator and I sell my prints on Etsy also.

what (are you collecting) : miniature cars.

when (did you start) : The first memory I have is from when I was 4 years old and stole a toy car from a boy in my preschool. That car was probably the first in my collection.

how (many do you have?): Almost 80.

where (do you find them) :
Everywhere: I received many of them from my best friend, my twin sister gave me a lot of them, my close friends all know I collect them and give them to me for birthdays, my ex-boyfriend left me about half of his childhood collection, and I even have some that were given to me by a boy when I was traveling in India.

where (do you keep them) : In my house, where I continually move them around.

what (‘s a crazy/interesting story behind one) : This collection was a project I started with my best friend when we were very young. She lives in a different city now, but every once in a while she will still send me one in the mail; the last one, which I love, was sent to me from Amsterdam.

what (piece would you like to add): The Citröen 3CV, a car that was typical in my home country, Chile, in the 1970-1980s.

why (do you love them) : I love them because they add a lot of color to the house, they´re very cute, and I´ve always loved car designs.

which (one is your favourite) & why :
I have two: the first is the green Citröen DS, because its an amazing and very unique design, and even more so in miniature. The second is the Volkswagen Camper with a small trailer attached, because who wouldn´t love to own a real one?

what (else do you collect) : I collect small wooden birds, wooden soldiers, and I have a collection of glass siphons.

what do you collect, nicies?

a beautiful kilims & kilim pillows collection with alex keller

....................

i just love seeing what folks are collecting. i guess i kind of feel it tells us just a little bit about what inspires them, what they love, and what they choose to surround themselves with in their home. today, i'm delighted to present the next in the rikrak studio's collections series:  quick questions with a wonderful artist on what they're collecting, (apart from their art supplies! ) you can also check out my  *the collectors* series on Etsy, based on these posts! hope you'll just love alex keller's gorgeous kilim collection.
..................

Bold geometrics. Rich hues. Textured layers. Patterned prints.
All hot hot trends this season that combine to create this most fabulous handmade & vintage home décor collection. Don't you just LOVE alex keller's gorgeous kilim collection?!

 ..................

What (are you collecting) : kilims and kilim pillows

When (did you start) : several years ago

How (many do you have): about 18

Where (do you find them) : thifting, on line, a few from my Mom, and a few from a wholesale show

Where (do you keep them) : on the floor, on the walls, on chairs, a sofa, the bed, and everything else in a large vintage Chicago opera trunk

What (‘s a crazy/interesting story behind one) : one of the rugs at a thrift store was marked only $12! but the craziest story is about the opera trunk .... a friend and i went to the warehouse sale in October 2004 & driving there we got stuck in traffic in the middle of a parade. I believe it was the Double Ten Parade, celebrating Chinese Independence, a la Seinfeld & the Puerto Rican Day parade in NYC. the trunk would not fit into my car, so we had to borrow a friend's SUV to go a couple of days later. And then we had trouble getting to the opera warehouse because of the Chicago Marathon that year! So after two trips to the warehouse, and hours and hours in a car, i had my trunk!

What (piece would you like to add): i could always get more pillows and i'm looking for some new runners for our bedroom.

Why (do you love them) : i love that they are handmade, that they have such a wonderful history, and that they add color, texture and warmth to the surfaces of my home.

Which (one is your favourite) & why : the Tree of Life kilim that my mom bought for me when we first moved to Tucson.

What (else do you collect) : another textile i collect is Ukrainian embroidery. i'm first generation Ukrainian and learned to cross stitch from my mom. i have a few scraps i have framed, some pieces i made as a child, a few placemats, blouses, a wool jacket, a sheepskin coat, and a beautiful towel from an aunt. my mom has quite a collection of pillows, towels, tablecloths and blouses, too.

collections: milk glass with kristi mcmurry

.................................

i just love seeing what folks are collecting. i guess i kind of feel it tells us just a little bit about what inspires them, what they love, and what they choose to surround themselves with in their home. today, i'm delighted to present the next in the rikrak studio's collections series:  quick questions with a wonderful artist on what they're collecting, (apart from their art supplies! ) you can also check out my  *the collectors* series on Etsy, based on these posts! hope you'll just love vintage milk glass collecting with kristi mcmurry.

What’s the story behind your collection?

I love the journey  this particular medley of objects traces – a mix of random thrift store finds, and meaningful pieces given lovingly & thoughtfully to the collector;  the magic of how a collection comes together creating its own history through the gathering process.

..................

who (are you) : I’m Kristi McMurry, a web designer and photographer from Jackson, TN

what (are you collecting) : all things milk glass

when (did you start) : it was around last summer. I stopped in a thrift store on my way to my boyfriend’s house (I pass it all the time, but just randomly decided to stop in) and saw two milk glass vases for 50 cents each. I thought they were so cute and really wanted to use them in my house! I started seeking out milk glass pieces from them on.

how (many do you have) : I have about 50 pieces

where (do you find them) : antique stores, thrift stores, family members, and even my
Grandmamma’s boxes in my own attic!

where (do you keep them) : all over the house. I plan to use the tall skinny vases in my wedding reception someday

what (‘s a crazy/interesting story behind one) : The lamp that I’m posing with in the photo is one that a family member gave me at Christmas. It’s my step-dad’s mother, who has always treated me like I was her own grandchild. She wanted me to have something of hers, and since I was collecting milk glass, she gave me this beautiful lamp she’s had for about 50 years. I was SPEECHLESS. Pop, her husband gave me a very valuable camera (my other other collection) the same Christmas. They are both now two of my most cherished possessions because they were given with so much love.

what(piece would you like to add): I would love a set of milk glass drawer pulls or knobs.

why (do you love them) : I love that they come in so many shapes and often have gorgeous detail. I also love that I can have tons of them without my decor seeming too busy!

which (one is your favourite) & why : My favorite is the lamp that I got for Christmas, but I also really love the tall pitcher that I got from another grandmother.

what (else do you collect) : I also collect cameras, which was started when I inherited my grandfather’s cameras (can you tell I am really into collecting things from my grandparents?). My decor is a mixture of the milk glass and cameras.

Wonderful! Be sure to visit Kristi’s fabulous photography boutique , where each photo tells its own whimsical tale. Brilliant! And check out her photo & fashion blog, too!
