Early Tuesday afternoon we loaded up the trailer and headed for the mountains. Our base camp was site #61 in the Blackberry loop at Ponderosa State Park in McCall, Idaho. We spent most of the evening setting up camp, checking out the water, and making a dinner of Garlic Beef Ramen on the camp stove. Later, we built a fire and made s'mores and played games.
Wednesday after breakfast we took a few pictures and had an hour or so of school. Then we headed into town for fudge. Kaderick had just learned the "G" and all about George Gerbil who wouldn't shove while he waited for a piece of fudge. The fudge led to coffee and some exploring of the town then back to camp for a relaxing remainder of the day. In the evening, mom and dad went for a long walk while the kids held down the "fort."
Thursday, after a hearty breakfast and a second trip to town for the kids (two of them and you'd never guess which ones) to buy shoes because they'd outgrown their camping ones, we spent the remainder of the day hiking. It was tons of fun and really hard work. My poor feet are still swollen and my legs are sore but I kept up the whole time even lead the pack much of the time. Kaderick rode on daddy's or Kayla's back most of the time and still sighed when we reached the top of one mountain saying, "Oh, if only there were a random bed lying around here!!" The nights were bug-free and the skies were amazing!! The older girls slept in the screened tent the second night.
Friday morning we broke camp. Kaderick wasn't thrilled to be going home and as we were packing up, he disappeared. He was found quickly, all buckled in his carseat and said, "Well, if we have to go home, let's just get it over with!"
Kaite, who has struggled with motion sickness all her life, even on even very short trips made the entire trip, both ways without being sick!! She hasn't been motion sick even once since she prayed on the flight home from camp this summer! The roads are extremely curvy and even sitting in the front, I am prone to queasiness. We stopped for a few hours at at lunch time Big Eddy...seems no trip of ours is quite complete without this stop and the kids just love the sandy beaches!!
Here are a few pictures of our adventures. Enjoy!! And someday, come see us and we'll take you along with us!!
