Kade started running a temp on Friday or Saturday--as in a full week and a few days ago. He also had had an upset tummy, diarrhea, vomiting, and severe reflux.
Monday I took him to the doctor. He thought it was a virus, but a little odd that no one else in the family had been sick. Still, that happens sometimes. It was a LONG week, the days bad and the nights even worse.
Yes, all kids get sick, and while it is never fun, when half or more of his symtoms line up with those given you as "signs" that his illness may be going systemic, it becomes very fearful. The doctor ordered more bloodwork in which his white blood count and nutrafil counts were both lower than he wanted. Thursday night, he broke out in a rash. Friday, the doctors were still saying that the rash could be viral as some virus's are ended with an "exit" rash. Then the rash became extremely itchy and he screamed without consolation and rubbed his ears and head.
So, we went back to the dr and got medication (antihistamines) that have brought the itching way down. We also have anti-acids for the reflux. His rash was almost completely gone most of the day today, (Sunday), but seems to be coming back tonight.
The question is.....what all has caused this? Is it some routine virus that for some reason everyone else escaped while it hit Kade extra hard or is it related to his Mastoctosis? We are waiting for an oncologist/hematologist to call us--hopefully Monday and get him in. He's lost a little weight (less than a pound) and never became dehydrated through all of this. The drs are saying that they are still quite certain we have nothing to worry about in terms of a malignant cancer, but worry we still do, and obviously the drs are concerned enough to refer him to a specialist.
He is feeling much better today, aside from the rash which seems to be making a little bit of a comeback, so we are thankful for that! All of the symptoms he had, can at times be associated with the Cutaneous Mastocytosis (benign) as well. Or they can be signs of Systemic Masto (may or may not be benign) Or (worst case) (and very, very rarely) they can be signs of Mast Cell Leukemia (always malignant)....and with a prognosis of which I cannot speak.
So, can I ask you--beg of you--to please pray for our little man? We realize that we have to trust Jesus to do what is best, but we believe that he gave us this little miracle and can touch and heal him now.
