8 months old and fleeting summer!

Little man is 8 months old!
He's 20.8 pounds and crawling everywhere!
He pulls himself up to everything and is quite determined when he spots something he wants--he usually finds a way to get it.

He's eating his solids slightly better these days, but still prefers mommy. Maybe because he has allergies and knows other things might make him feel bad.
Either way, mommy doesn't mind too much! They are only small once.

He is a busy guy though and does require 100% supervision. He gets himself in some really awkward spots and hollars for assistance.
We had a second opinion regarding treatment for his Cutaneous Mastosytosis and decided to only treat topically as needed for now. He still has to have frequent blood monitoring just to be sure this doesn't go into his system. Usually, I do pretty well with it, but then sometimes I remember (or it hits again) what it is that he really has, and how unspeakably bad it would be if it went internal and it's just really hard for this mommy. Also, those mast cell tumors that he has produce hystamine so he is an allergy machine. I have to carry benadryl all the time and we still have that appointment the first of next month with an allergist.

In other news, we have been putting up the fruits of harvest. Our blackberries are glorious this year. We have made jam and jelly and syrrup.

And several pies.

We've also made bread and butter pickles and some sweets.

Some friends of our grow the most delicious corn and we bought 23 dozen ears! I thought I might be crazy when I asked for that many, but I sure am glad now that it is all put up in the freezer!
It went really well actually. My dad was here one night and helped the girls husk it.

Kalli washed.

Grandma came and cooked most of it.
I cut.

Kammy stirred.

Kayla bagged.

Kaite washed the bags off.

Kade sampled.

And we ended up with 36 quarts and 8 gallons in the freezer!

This has been a different summer. We usually camp frequently, but Rick has been so busy at work. They remodeled and his office moved. He's the techie guy at the place, so he has done tons of internet cabeling and just all sorts of things. Many of his days have been 15 hours and more of them 12. He's put in several Saturdays too. It's been a little frustrating trying to keep up with it all and with ministry work, but the Lord has helped us and I think we might be seeing the end of the tunnel. Many late nights, I have had to remind the girls AND MYSELF how blessed we are to have a daddy who works so hard to provide for us. It is a blessing just to have steady employment these days, though I have sincerely wished he was hourly and not salery over the last few months!
Taking Kaderick camping has also been a real concern because of his condition bug bites or allergy to any number of plants ect can be pretty alarming.

School will be starting soon! I have one excited 3rd grader, one reluctant 6th grader and one really-dreading-it 10th grader!

I've done several projects recently, including a ton of work in hubby's office, but I haven't found the time to blog them. Sadness. Maybe soon. I hope to get around to visit blogs more frequently again as well. Like I said, it's been a really different summer. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.
