David Byron (Essex/GB, 29/01/47, vocais), Mick Box (Londres/GB, 8/08/47, guitarra), Ken Hensley (GB, 24/08/45, teclados, vocais), Paul Newton (baixo) e Alan Napier (bateria) formam o grupo em 70 - Depois do álbum de estréia, Very´ Eavy..., Napier é substituído por Keith Baker (bateria) - Nova mudança depois de Salisbury: entram Lee Kerslake (bateria) Mark Clarke (baixo) - Entram no Top 30 nos EUA com Demons And Wizards (72). Nesse disco, Gary Thain (Nova Zelândia) é o baixista - Wonderworld é o último álbum de sucesso do grupo. Gary Thain sai em 75. (Morrerá no dia 19 de março de 76, de overdose.) - O novo baixista é John Wetton (ex-King Crimson), que está em Return To Fantasy (75) - Depois de High And Mighty, Wetton e Byron são substituídos por Trevor Balder (baixo) e John Lawton (vocais) - Em Conquest (80), o vocalista é John Sloman. Nesse ano, Mick Box monta nova formação com Peter Goalby: (vocais), Bab Daisley (baixo, ex-Rainbow), John Sinclair (teclados) e Kerslake (bateria) - Equator (85) traz Bolder de volta no lugar de Daisley - Em 87, Bernie Shaw (vocais) e Phil Lanzon (teclados) entram no lugar de Goalby e Sinclair. Os discos seguintes são Raging Silence (89) e Different World (91).
