Goose Creek Candle Company Giveaway!

When Goose Creek Candle Company contacted me about sponsoring a giveaway on Red Door Home I immediately said yes.  Normally I take some time to make my decision - I am quite selective when it comes to giveaways (only products I would use in my own home) - but in this instance I was already familiar with this fabulous company.   You see not too long ago, Marianne of Miss Mustard Seed hosted a Goose Creek Candle giveaway and I had read about these wonderful candles and company on her blog.  Needless to say I was thrilled!

Goose Creek sent along two candles for me to try – dark vanilla bean and blueberry passion – both from their American Heirloom Collection. They arrived carefully packaged and in perfect shape.
I immediately opened the candles to give them the “smell test” as I am not one who likes really strong scents.  I have to say they passed with flying colors – great scent but not overpowering.  In fact, my kids just loved the blueberry candle and said it smelled like blueberry muffins. Yum!

I put the vanilla candle on my bedroom dresser with the top off and have been enjoying the smell of the candle even when it is not lit.

One of my favorite features of the candles – besides the scent - is the design of the jar and the absence of a big label.  They have a pretty brushed nickel top and the jar itself is simple and elegant.  A great fit for any décor.   In fact, Goose Creek also sells the jars without the candles.

Besides the products shown above, Goose Creek also offers a wide variety of pillar candles, jar candles, warmers, and room sprays in many different scents.  Something for everyone!

The good news is the nice people at Goose Creek have generously offered not one but two candles as giveaways!

If you would like to win a candle of your own here is what you will need to do to enter:

Be or become a RDH follower and then simply visit Goose CreekCandle Company’s website and leave a comment below telling me which candle you want to win. Easy!

As an added bonus, Red Door Home readers will receive 25% off their order by entering the code 080412.  The code will be valid until the end of the month.

Enjoy your weekend and good luck!

Entries must be received by midnight EST on Friday, August 10, 2012. Two winners will be selected at random and will be announced on Sunday, August 12, 2012.  To enter you must be at least 18 years of age and a US resident.  Although I was compensated for this giveaway, all the opinions given here are my own.

Project Snapshots

Like many of you, the beginning of a new year has me re-energized.  I have been busy organizing, cleaning, purging, rearranging, and checking lots of those little pesky things off my “to do” list which have been there way too long.  (i.e. - the clock above my mantel which has been leaning against the wall for almost two years has finally been hung!)

Along with all of the above, I have also been working on lots of house projects.  So today I thought I would share a sneak peak of what I have been up to and give you an idea of what is ahead.  I will be sure to share all the details as each project is completed.

The biggest changes will be taking place in the master bedroom.  The pictures below are a few hints of the progress which has been made so far.

I have also been completing projects in the basement . . .

. . . adding some new artwork to the mudroom . . .

. . . and updating a few things in the kitchen.

Changes are also in store for the dining room.

Finally, I wanted to thank everyone who entered the Something About Silver giveaway.  I try to host a couple of giveaways throughout the year as a way to thank you for choosing to take time out of your busy schedules and spend it with Red Door Home.

September Blog of the Month – Dear Lillie

Today I am thrilled to be featuring Dear Lillie as the Red Door Home September Blog of the Month.

I discovered Jennifer’s blog last spring when we both participated in the 2011 Poppies at Play Parade of Homes.

Jennifer’s End of Summer Mantel

From my very first visit I was captivated by Jennifer’s beautiful and welcoming style as well as her gorgeous photographs.

Jennifer’s inviting home is filled with many of her own unique decorating designs (many of which she has tutorials for) including the pretty ruffled lamp shade and slipcovered ottoman shown below and the moss covered letter shown above.

In addition to home decorating, Dear Lillie also features some of Jennifer’s original and creative party ideas – my favorite of which is the Jane Austin themed party shown below.

Jennifer is also mom to two beautiful little girls who often model items found in Dear Lillie’s online store.

Lillie wearing a Briar Hat

As luck would have it, Dear Lillie just reopened their online shop today!  I am totally in love with two newly added items - the Organic Annistyn Scarf in Winter White and the silhouette shopping bag shown below.

I hope you will visit Dear Lillie and leave a comment to let Jennifer know you stopped by. I know you will be glad you did!

Spring Spruce Ups

The weather was finally warm enough the past few days to begin preparing the outdoor spaces around our home for spring and summer. With the last patch of snow gone in our back yard (hurray!), the patio furniture and urns made their annual spring time appearance and there was lots of raking, sweeping and soil preparation.

I even managed to plant a few herbs – rosemary, parsley and lavender – along with some lettuce, as they seem to tolerate the fluctuating temperatures of this time of year.

It was fun to look around the yard to see if the plants we transplanted in the fall survived the winter. I am happy to report several look good and others we will have to wait a little bit longer to tell.

Source unknown

One project which has been on the radar for some time now is creating a fire pit area. I love the look of the picture above with the four Adirondack chairs arranged in a circle. We are hoping to replicate something similar with a fire pit in place of the large pot. Below is the space we will be working with. The small ring of rocks with the hole in the middle was what we used last year for our outdoor fires.

As you can see, our designated area is more sheltered and sits next to our “in progress” garden. We started the garden a few years after we moved in and have been slowly adding to it one feature at a time.

Our plan is to cover the ground with the same small gravel which we used for the garden paths. At the moment it is all dirt and not very user friendly. We are still undecided about the fire pit itself, right now we simply have a hole in the ground surrounded by rocks. Several friends have the portable type pits like the one shown above, but we are leaning towards building ours out of stone to match the rest of our home’s hardscaping. What would you do? I would love to know your opinion.

I hope to have some updated pictures of this area in a month or so of our progress!

Thank You Dovecote Décor!

The week after the New Year I received some exciting news. I was the winner of a fabulous giveaway sponsored by Liz, Benji and Viive at Dovecote Décor in conjunction with Wind Rose Antiques.

What did I win?

This fantastic English rosewood stationary box with inlay valued at $350. Needless to say I was thrilled!

The box arrived a few days ago and is even prettier in person than it was in the picture. According to the enclosed tag, the box is from Staffordshire, England and dates to the 1830’s - a true antique and treasure.

Although I have not settled on a permanent home, it is currently residing happily in my dining room.

Besides writing a wonderful blog called Dovecote Décor, this talented trio also has a shop by the same name.

I was delighted at the selection of antiques, lighting, accessories, and more that I found while visiting their online shop. Here is just a sample of some of my favorites.

Thanks again to Dovecote Décor for this incredible giveaway. To see more great pieces, click HERE.
