What's up with that?

Ok, I've not been active on Blogger - BAD BLOGGER! Here's what I'm up to:

I came across this Victorian era small cabinet card album at an antique store this last weekend. It is in excellent condition except for the interior pages that hold the photos. Bad thing if I want to use it for photos, but good thing if I want to use it for an art project.

Renewed interest

You might guess from my blog name of quilted cavalier that I have an interest in quilting. For sure I was quilting crazed several years back... However I grew bored with it as I'm not a cutesy quilter. The art quilt movement is what drew me to mixed media. But with my recent interest in Zakka craft I found out about a whole new movement in quilting called Modern Quilting. One of the basis of this movement is improvising - something I've always done when quilting. I cannot follow a pattern - I have to make everything my own. Here are a few relevant blogs that capture the modern quilting spirit beautifully.

Still here

Well goodness - has it been that long since I posted! I've been way too busy with working on the house (painting, new countertops...) some minor updates that were long overdue. I must say, it looks really good now, but what a pain getting there. In the meantime, I let my domain name expire. Soooo, we're back to my old blogger account for now. I see blogger still doesn't play nice with the iPad - can't upload pics... Too bad. I am looking forward to my last workshop at Valley Ridge Art Studio. I am sad that Katherine is no longer going to run the art studio. I wish her well on her next venture, whatever that may be.

I am still on Etsy, so be sure to check out my items there. Thanks for stopping by!

Enjoy,

Latest find

I talked Marc into getting this cute little retro vacuum cleaner this weekend. It's vintage 60's we think. Interesting in researching it that these vacuums were designed for use originally to clean airliners in the 40's & 50's. It was so cute I told him he needed it, but funny thing is that once he cleaned it up he found that it works great. It came with all of the attachments too.

New technique

I have this styrofoam head that I got to use in my Etsy shop as a display piece. It is so boring as it is. I didn't know what to do with it - maybe get her a wig? Then I saw the beautiful head in Pam Carriker's book "Art at the Speed of Life" and I knew right away what to do with my styrofoam head - alter it! I did research on the intranet on using plaster, tracked down the product to use at Ben Franklin Crafts (love that store!) and decided to use newspaper and gel medium to cover the head first. I don't have it painted yet as I'm waiting for the plaster to completely set. However it looks pretty good already.

I plan on having the newsprint still show in her eyes - I'll have to see how that looks. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Xmas

I am focusing on enjoying the holidays this year. The holidays can get me down. What gets me the most is the attitude of some people this time of year. Rude people... Down right nasty people. I just don't understand it. How can people be so short sighted that they can be so mean to someone? This time of year I think it just stands out so much when it occurs. Have you been mindful of others in your rush to get your Christmas shopping done? Are you respectful of other drivers in your compute to get to your destination? - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

I came across a new app today (via pinterest) called: Houzz. We are considering putting in new kitchen flooring & I need ideas as to what will look good in my kitchen so I'm using Houzz & i like it so far. It's like a home decor/design magazine in an app & it's free. Check it out at Houzz.

Wish I could be here

Tonight I met up with a friend that I haven't seen in over 25 years. She & her husband live on the east coast. We had a great time catching up over coffee.

Here's a pic of the Swan & Dolphin resort in Walt Disney World (actually that's the Dolphin you see). It's a beautiful place. We'll be planning our next trip there soon.
