Submitting time for the Some Odd Girl DT

Down to the wire....that is normally NOT me. I am a planner and like to work ahead of time. But this summer has gotten away from me! Seriously where did August go?????

The submissions for the SOG DT is September 1 midnight. (here is the application info). Go apply!

First of all I was going to use the Turkey digi for my submissions, but when I saw this OWL I knew I needed to have him!!!! I bought one for my craft bestie too! SERIOUSLY! HOW CUTE IS HE!

Here is what I sent in:

Card 1: Hoo-Hoo-Hooray

Recipe—
Solid Paper: White-Neenah, Kraft-Papertrey Ink
Pattern Paper: Basic Grey
Ink: Black-Momento, Grey-Papertrey Ink
Other: Vintage Seam binding, sewing, Copics and pop-dots.

Card 2: What a Hoot

Recipe—
Solid Paper: White-Neenah, Kraft-Papertrey Ink
Pattern Paper: Echo Park and Handmade Chevrons
Ink: Black-Momento, White-Papertrey Ink
Other: Watercolor crayons, Twine, enamel dots, washi and a Paper Bakery Flair

Card 3: Happy Wedding

And then I needed a third to send it, so I chose the Wedding gnomes.
I chose this one because, I took regular gnomes and made them into a wedding couple. It was apropos.  My cousin (who got married) had their reception at the The Happy Gnome in St. Paul. I really like how this card came out.

Pattern Paper: Studio Calico
Ink: Black-Momento
Stamp: Gnomes- Stampin' Up

Wish me luck on the Some Odd Girl DT!

Swirl Bats and Bleach Haunted House

It's hard to believe that Halloween is right around the corner!

It was fun to work on this Halloween card for Prickley Pear
Rubber stamps. They have these awesome new Halloween
and fall stamps. And along with Prickley Pear well of course
I have added a little PK Glitz glitter.

I wanted to try something I have never done before....
I stamped with Bleach! I know.... crazy! I did use the non-splash kind.
I took a papertowel added a little bleach and dabbed the stamp.
I then stamped it on black, and the magic took place... it
slowly started to show up...and I LOVE how it turned
the black paper ORANGE!

Recipe:
Rays embossing folder
Amy arts ribbon
SU clip
Hamptons art Embossing powder
PK glitz glitter
Bleach for stamping
Solid Paper-Archivers
Versa Magic ink
Score tape
Memento ink
Slate Distress ink
Pop dots
Versamark

Directions:
A2
Cut the purple paper to card size. Run it though the Cuttlebug using the Rays folder. Add distressing ink to the edges. Add the ribbon by using the score tape. Tie it into a knot on the side. Cut the black paper panel and using bleach stamp it on the black paper. Let the paper dry completely. Mount the black panel on another black panel with pop dots. Using scoretape go around the top black panel and add the glitter. Mount that whole panel on a coordinating orange paper. Stamp the bats on matching purple and cut them out. Using pop dots add the bats onto the card. Stamp the saying with versamark on cream paper add the rust embossing powder. Edge that panel with versa magic ink. Add it to the card with pop dots and the little clip.

In honor of Friday the 13th...

I have to show this HALLOWEEN hanging!

Oh my goodness, Prickley Pear has a new fall release!

I love the stamps! So fun!

This was the first piece that
I made with the stamps.

I used some dominoes from Janice (thanks Janice)
to put the words on. So different working with that material.

The Alcohol ink I used worked really well on
the dominoes, but they were not very easy to drill.

This was also the first time I tried stamping with acrylic paint
I love the look of the acrylic, it kind of makes it bolder.

Recipe:
Solid Paper-Archivers
Adirondack Black Dauber
Luminarte Shimmer mist
Gold Shimmer Spritz
Ribbon- May arts, SU and Michaels
Old dominoes painted with Alcohol ink
PK glitz glitter
Embossing Folder-Checkerboard
Martha edge spiderweb punch
Lifes Journey Letter stickers
Crystal effects
SU edge distresser

Directions:
First thing you want to do is to drill the holes in the dominoes (top one gets 2 holes on the top and 2 on the bottom, the bottom one only gets two holes on the top) . After the holes are drilled you want to add the alcohol ink to the dominoes. Just add colors that will go with the final project. On the fronts of the dominoes add a piece of coordinating paper. Over that add the “HAPPY” letters to the top domino, and the “HALLOWEEN” letters to the bottom domino. Now for the middle panel… Stamp the tree image on the orange using the acrylic paint dubber. The dubber will make the stamped image a little thicker and to me a little more spooky. Stamp the image again on a lighter orange with regular ink. Add crystal effects to the pumpkins on the lighter orange paper. Cut out the pumpkins once the crystal effects is dry. Add those pumpkins to the acrylic stamped image. Distress the edges of the orange panel add it to the black paper. Add punched images to the top and bottom of the black panel. Run the back panel through the Cuttlebug with the embossing folder. Punch holes in the black panel so you can attach the dominos with ribbon. Tie the whole thing together with the ribbons.

It's Thursday, you know what that means...

It means it is Our Creative Corner sketch challenge day!

For this card I wanted to create a card
without stamping anything, I don't think I've ever
done that before, and I did!

I had a pack of these super cute cards from
October Afternoon
. I think that this cat image
is so darn cute.

I'm a kitty
who are you?

I did have to add a little C1 Copic around the image so
it would pop a little more.

By the light of the Paper Lantern

Hero Arts is having a card challenge.
This week they wanted you to create with ribbon.
So when I approached this card, I knew I wanted to do something
totally different with ribbon. I used only solid colored ribbon,
because the card is so colorful and a pattern ribbon would be overwhelming.

So here it is:

I used ribbon for the leaves on the tiny flowers
and for the tassels on the lanterns.

I broke open my new Hero Arts Good Fortune set. I really like this set.
The images are so cute and fun.

Recipe
Paper: Solid-Pink {Archivers}, White {Neenah} and Red {Papertry Ink}
Pattern: Red {DCWV}
Stamps: Asain {Hero Arts} and Swirls {unknown}
Other: Coloring {Copics}, Sewing, String, SU Clear Embossing
and Ribbon- Green, Red & Orange {Offray}

A little birdy told me

Thursday again...and that means it's OCC Sketch day!
Here is the sketch.

This one was a little tough for me, but I just got some new stamps from
Clear Art Stamps. As you probably know by now I love birds.
I could not help, but buying this super cute set. I told myself...
no new stamps until after the used stamp sale on March 6th.
But, that did not last long. I missed this set the last time the stamping
store had it. Of course I did not want to miss it again.

I also has this card blank sitting on my desk for over 3 months now.
I found it just perfect for this cute little bird and saying.

I actually had this card all done and posted to the OCC blog....
and then I looked at it again. It was really boring.
So I went back to my desk and added the paper piercing
around the bird, the added ribbon to the bird and
saying as well as the crystals to the corner.

I have to say MUCH better.

Recipe
Paper- Solid White {Neenah}, Green {DCWV}; Pattern {pink, French}
Ribbon-Unknown
Stamps- Birds {Clear Art Stamps}
Ink- Green {SU}, Pink {SU}, Black {Memories}
Coloring-Copics
Other- Nesties, 1" round punch, Vintage Button, Sewing and String

Happy Thanksgiving

When you play along with us, please remember to post your sample to your blog or gallery, and then include a link in the Mr. Linky form at the Stamps and Smiles Blog so we can all easily find each other. If you upload to SCS, please include “stampsandsmiles” in the keywords.
Stamps and Smiles stamps are not required for our challenges, grab some of your favorite stamps & supplies and have fun with our sketch each week!

Here's the sketch

Here's another project I made just for this occasion:
He's a Turkey ATC! I had so much fun making him.
Take a look at his belly button :) it's holding on his tail!
I ran all of his tail fathers through the Cuttlebug, he needed to have a little texture added.

The stamp on his chest is embossed in clear and then I took some distressing ink and rubbed over the thanks part so the paper behind it would take the ink (the embossing resists it) and the thanks would then pop out.

100th post! Tuesday Tip: Ribbon Rings

I used to store all of my ribbon in a binder clip or in a basket. But lately (or as I am getting older) I can't keep track of the brands of the ribbon. So I was in my LSS and found this great product for organizing ribbon called the ribbon ring. And knew that would help me both organize, and keep track of the brands. I knew I would need to label it somehow (because these did not come with a place to label them). I had some Avery 5267 address labels that were just the right size. This is what I did...

It did not come with the ring (it came with a piece of ribbon) but book rings are easy to get from your LSS, or like most of us, we have one in our stash.

Now I have to figure out all the brands of the ribbons that I did not still have the packaging for... it is going to be a task, wish me luck.

Wonderful Etsy seller

Michele from Little Red Cottage has a wonderful blog and Etsy site. I just had to order the jumbo Rick-Rack after I saw it on her blog. I already used it in card that I posted. See the card here. Isn't that pink awesome.

After I bought the items from her, this is how it came in the mail:

As you can see I bought a lot... I have a ton of uses for it.

Please take a moment to visit her blog and Etsy site (you'll find that link off of her blog).

LSS Starfish Challenge

My local scrapbooking store (LSS) had a starfish challenge. It was a tough one for me. I've been seeing these ribbons that people make, and thought...heck I can give it a try.

We'll it was a little tougher than I thought. I really did not know what the ratio the length of the fabric to how big I wanted the medallion to be was. So through trial and a lot of error, I figured it out. The big back medallion is made from a piece of fabric I've been keep for years (you know, that fabric you buy but you don't know what you are going to use it for). It is beautiful. Quilted silk with sequence and raw edges. It was hard to make that first cut. But I did.

I sewed the back medallion to make it round and gathered. I attached it to a round piece of chipboard that I also attached the tails of the ribbon to. Now for the starfish. I strung some sea colored beads along with a "inspire" charm on some wire and attached it to the starfish to make it look like he is holding the string of beads. I attached him to piece of chipboard that I covered with orange paper. I also gathered a cream ribbon and a green ribbon to make a smaller medallion that the starfish could sit on. I added a loop to the back so it can be hung.

I am not sure what I am going to do with it. I might sell it on my Etsy site. (If anyone is interested in it, let me know). I have to keep it up, away from the cats, they really really want to eat it. (I lost one starfish this way).

The size is about 7" round on the medallion and about 12" tall

And this is what it looks like...

March of the Tools Tuesday tip re-do

This Tuesday's tip is...
Using a 1" flat iron (made for your hair) to iron ribbon.

I use ribbon a lot in my crafting and it is stored in cardboard cards in a Prism Box, so when it comes to using it, it is wrinkled more often than not.

I found that it is a lot quicker to heat up my flat iron than the full size iron.
The ribbon MUST NOT contain any plastic (should be silk, cotton, twill or something natural).

Your iron should be on a medium setting. And you need to clamp it quite tightly while you slowly pull your ribbon through it. A thicker ribbon might take a couple of times to iron, but it is a lot easier to pull it through, than getting out the ironing board and iron.
