Calvarium begun playing in 1994 with the initial formation integrated by Irwin Samael (Drums), Diego Rotting (Vocals), Leonardo Leguizamón (Guitars) and Vladimir Guanches (Bass), after a year of rehearsals they went to the studio in 1995 and recorded their first production " Shades Of Death" , demo recorded in Rafael Giordanelli’s studio, located in San Cristóbal, consisting of 4 influenced dark, raw and devastating black metal songs in the vein of Celtic Frost, Lunatic Invasion, Cryptic Slaughter, Sodom, Destruction, Samael, Bathory, Hellhamer, Parabellum and Paradise Lost. This first production had good acceptance in the central scene of the country, being considered as pioneers of Venezuelan black metal. For their second recording changes of formation took place, leaving Irwin due to travelling, Diego Lopez occupies their position. Thus the band was conformed by Vladimir (Bass) and Leonardo in vocals and guitars, with this formation another record was made at the Rafael Giordanelli studio, this second demo was named " Inconciencia Humana”, this recording was done in 8 tracks and it was characterized by a greater speed of the songs, with influences mostly of black extreme metal and hardcore of bands like Impaled Nazarene, Marduk, Emperor, Disgust, Discharge and Disorder among others bands. With this new production by Calvarium they were invited to several concerts in Colombia and Caracas; for their third recording there are member changes again, being the formation integrated by Antonio Cabeza (Drums). Jefferson Gomez (Bass) and Leonardo Leguizamón in the guitars and vocals as the sole constant member in all the trajectory of Calvarium; for this recording improvement in sound and execution was achieved, with greater maturity as far as the letters, with these members they record their third work, titled " Morbid L" , released in 2005 in the studies of Alex Ardila in 24 tracks, with this recording the band goes to the road again, starting in Colombia, sharing the stage with important bands of the neighboring country like Esbbat, Threshold, End, Sobibor among others. Calvarium at the present moment is recording their fourth production that will be released by 2009. The current Calvarium lyrical subject it is influenced by the nihilism and nadaism, containing lyrics of thematic anti theological and being inspired by the harsh reality reflected by the wars and catastrophes that serves like a prelude for the doomsday and the end of the world.
