Salt dough idea

Hello to you all.

I’d like to share with you something I made for Tammi and my Christmas challenge. This month was to use a Saturated Canary image with option to hide a gift inside.

NOEL_jar

I saw those cute little jars at Michaels in the $2 bin… checked out yesterday with 2 more and they are now down to $1 which means they are on clearance and usually that means in the dollar section it may take a while until they are back in. There are two styles available square and round, with a patch of chalk paint to write on. I went with the square style so its easier to adhere a focal point image and with some strong scor tape the design paper holds nicely over the edges with no issue.
NOEL_jar_1

the image is by Kirsta Smith, Saturated Canary called Spitz. I used some pretty Magnolia Design paper, Magnolia picket Fence die, seam binding ribbon, pearl stickers, gingham ribbon, white gel pen, Stickles, Copic marker, Alphabet stickers to decorate the jar.

NOEL_jar_2

Here is what I have made for the inside…. I have to admit I wanted to make something to add a gift card… a little boring Smile this one was more work but it was fun to make with the kids. So if you have a rainy day, try it out. I used to make salt dough as a kid all the time. Its so easy essentially its 2 part flour and 1 parts of Salt with 1 part of water mixed, shaped and dried either at a sunny window or on lowest heat setting in the oven over several hours.

Now if you like to stamp on the ornaments, gift tags or what ever you decide to make you would roll your dough out, stamp first and than cut the shape out with a cookie cutter. I was able to stamp some Magnolia Tilda images onto my dough but haven't really figured a way out how to color them. I was about to play with my pencils but ran out of time. So here are for now just a few “plain” ones.Salzteig_1

I used the following Magnolia stamps to stamp on my tags/Ornaments:
A Merry Christmas, 25 North pole, Frosty the snowman, Merry Christmas seal,

Salzteig_2

Here is a detailed recipe how to make the dough

What you'll need

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie sheet
  • Toothpick
  • Miniature cookie cutters
  • Acrylic paints
  • Glitter glue or glitter paint
  • Ribbon

Helpful Tip:

If your toppers are large enough, you can make two holes in each so that you can thread ribbon through like a button, only showing a small amount of ribbon on the front.

Notes:

Uncooked salt dough doesn’t keep well, so only make enough dough for the ornaments you are going to make. If you are only making a few toppers, halve the ingredients above. The listed amounts will make enough ornaments for a classroom of 20.

Variations:

These make adorable pins to wear to school. Just don’t make a hole. Glue a pin back to the back of the completed ornament instead.

How to make it

  1. Preheat the oven to 250° F.

  2. Mix together salt, flour, and water until dough is formed.

  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until the mixture is elastic and smooth. If dough is too sticky, sprinkle with flour, continue to do so until stickiness is gone. Do not add too much flour, as this will dry out the dough and will cause it to crack before you get a chance to bake it.

  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4” thick with a rolling pin that has been dusted with flour.

  5. Use cookie cutters to cut out as many ornaments as you want.

  6. Use a toothpick to make a hole toward the top of the shape. Poke the toothpick into the shape, then holding toothpick straight up and down, make a circular motion as if you were stirring something. Keep circling until the hole is the size you want. You can also use a straw or a stir stick to poke the hole.

  7. Place all shapes onto an ungreased cookie sheet and place into the preheated oven.

  8. Bake for 2 hours.

  9. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.

  10. Paint the ornaments.

  11. When paint is dry, use glitter glue or glitter paint to put a sparkling cover coat on your ornaments.

  12. When the glitter is dry, thread ribbon through hole and tie in a knot in the back.

  13. Hang on your tree or tie onto a package.

My Doo Hickey Storage

Hello to you all… today I would love to show you something I made for myself.
I hardly ever keep something for me that I make. Some may remember the magnet die storage book I altered for my friend Chrissy for Christmas? Well.. I have about 5 in use for myself and I started to tackle the first one. The plan is to decorate them all in different colors – this one has a green ribbon reminding me that I have “floral” dies inside this book.

I kept the book for me as flat as possible with no embellishments raising up because I deal with limited storage space so my books have to be able to stand up like books and slide in and out without worrying I rip something accidently off. However it was HARD to keep it flat :-0

DooHickey_storage_1

I used
Saturated Canary “Poppy” I printed her out 100% and colored her in. It took me 2 days to color her in and used a lot of ink. The main reason I printed her out as large I could I can show you next time.

Magnolia Ink newspaper

Magnetic Die Storage Book

Hello,
I would like to show you one of the gifts I made for Christmas for a crafting friend.
I knew she collects just as I many dies and I love these magnetic books. Of course mine are not decorated lol – I never seam to find time for that, but I did label all my books with bakers twine ribbon in the spine of the book and I used my Tea label dies as tags and sorted my Magnolia dies into groups that work for me as Winter, foliage, border and label/tags.

dies_2

I was back and forth with the gift as far as decoration went if I should make it Christmas looking or more general. As you can see I think went more neutral but as I look at it right now it almost looks like a Valentines gift today lol.

dies_1

As always most of the supplies I use are available at Sir Stampalot. I just noticed at the website a nice magnet storage solution I actually consider to purchase for my Spellbinder Nestabilitie collection made by Art Bin.
The cute image is by Saturated Canary but I think it’s a digi image and I cant recall the exact name.

All other supplies are as follows:
Design Paper: Magnolia Ink
Tulip, Magnolia ink red Kitchen Cloth , Magnolia ink green with dots
Dies: DooHickey large butterfly, DooHickey Tilda Tag, Memory box Tiffany Frame die
Stamp: Mangolia Postmark, script
Embellishments:
Bakers twine, red gingham, Stickles, Frantage shabby white, Prima Marketing wood Embellishments Birds and Owls, seam binding, flowers

This how the book looks on my friends desk with some of her Magnolia dies stored stored in it.

Thanks for looking

I am back...

Hello friends,
finally back home:-)
We have had the most fantastic time with the Angie Hunt's family in Disney World Orlando. We came home yesterday morning at 7 am, i think i will share some silly photos of Angie and myself tomorrow :-)
Angie and i took some much needed girl time and we just hung out and they guys went off themselves. Time flew.... Thank you Angie :-)

Today i can share with you a card i was able to make fairly quick. Its made from just 1 sheet of double sided 12x12 paper folded a couple of times and no cutting needed :-). I've cut a longer piece of plain card stock to function as a long tag, to slide out where i could add my handwritten note on.

I quite like the simplicity of this card and bonus - its not  heavy at all.

Most of the supplies can be found at Sir Stampalot.
Elphie is going to be soon listed to purchase - Sir Stampalot has all previous collections listed as well as the super adorable Little Darling background stamps.

Coloring: Copic Sketch

Thank you for taking time to see me today mwah!

Genie in the bottle

Hello,
i am so sorry for MIA.
First and most importantly... i would like to announce the winner of my Magnolia blog candy.

dear Kelly Neis would you please email me at claudiaesrosaathotmail.com with your address so i can get the stamps out to you?

huge THANK YOU to all of you who took time to comment and all your nice words!

Some of you may have had a chance and hop along the recent Little Darlings blog hop and saw all the wonderful new Spring Collection (Saturated Canary)images which are available to order in Rubber over on Little Darlings or at your favorite online shop. Keep your eyes peeled at Sir Stampalot - the shop even offers now classes you can take featuring Little Darlings Saturated Canary images.

Over the weekend i was able to whip a small little card out using "Genie".
I liked the idea with a wiper card, using the girl on the front and than when pulled the magic lamp appears.
The tutorial for that card is on Splitcoast and of course you can modify the size as you like. I made once one for Magnolia Ink in 5.5 square.

I just had to write you

Hello girls, thank you so much for all your lovely comments you left me. Sorry i have not been able to get to your blogs yet. We are having renovations here at the house and you would think it should not be a big issue once you told what you want to get done... but i have been constantly out to make coffee, make lunch, bring drinks, got called out to look at the progress of the work - to the point that one day i left all day.

Right now my husband is getting ready to go on a trip to Italy and i am looking forward to a hopefully better week next week.

Anyways, i hope you like my little card i made for Debbie. She needs 2 cards for her room moms (she is a teacher) to give a little gift card to them. Debbie is just a sweetheart. I added to the front pocket a nice sentiment and in the inside is a second criss cross pocket to add the gift card.

I might just make for Niklas teacher a nice gift too... i think next week is teacher appreciation day in the kids Elementary school, i also still need a card for my mom for Mothers Day card... OMG

These are the supplies i used:
Stamps: Geekin it - Saturated Canary Collection - through Little Darlings Rubber stamps
Sentiments: all by Stampin up

too late for Easter card

Hello dears,
last night i did some browsing on the web - there was really NOTHING on TV and of course i ended over at Sir Stampalot's site to see what new goodies Janice got for the shop and HOOORAAYY did you see that she has now all the new Little Darlings - Saturated Canary stamps for sale?

You can find the in the "news' section but i am sure there will be soon a direct section or category for this line of stamps.

Super excited...
I had made this card early this week... thinking i might need an other Easter card - just in case but i am good so i added a generic sentiment to the card. I think it will still work for this time of the year.

The gorgeous papers are also by Little Darlings and they have been designed by the very talented Mindy Baxter exclusively for Little Darlings. I really like how she did scaled the pattern, Mindy certainly has a good eye for card making and design. If you don't know yet, Mindy has a section in her Etsy shop where she is selling her very own digital paper designs.

Stamps: Honey - Little Darlings - Saturated Canary line
Papers: Little Darlings - Fruit Sorbet
Dies: Magnolia vintage chocolate box lace border - Heart shape, Memory Box

small hairbrushes and some candy for you

BLOG CANDY IS NOW CLOSED.
Thank you.
Hello my dear readers, thank you so much for all your lovely comments or just for swinging by to take time to look what i have created.

Today i wanted to show you the smaller brushes i spoke about earlier. It took me a bit to finish the brush using "Blanche" because i had to get some EZ mount. The stamping on such a uneven surface is just not possible without a cushion on the stamp. The brush with the circles is my first one, before i did all the work with stamping and coloring i wanted to make sure it acutally turns out okay. I used a Sharpie to just doodle and fill in the simple shapes.

I also thought it would be nice to give one of you a little gift. I have gotten so many great compliments on the first set of hairbrushes - so i thought i would offer the one you see on the photos with the roses

along with 2 Magnolia stamps (Cacao and Tilda blowing hearts) to one of you. Just leave me a comment below, i will draw the winner on Wednesday this coming week.

Spring Shadowbox Tray

Claudia_Rosa_Shabby Shadow box_2

Hi there… I had a little play with a couple of 7gypsies Solo Shadowbox trays. I would love to show you the second one I made first Smile
There sure is a lot going on but I like that!

Claudia_Rosa_Shabby Shadow box_1

Things I used are by Recollections, Prima Marketing, Tim Holtz (Sir Stampalot as a GREAT selection) and 7Gypsies.
The cute stamp I used is by Little Darlings Rubberstamps – Saturated Canary line “Lilliana”. As far I think to remember Sir Stampalot is going to carry soon the new stamps of this line as well. The paper I used is by Webster pages, I used just one sheet of 6x6 paper to decorate the inside of the shadowbox tray.

Thanks for taking time -

Adorable

Hello, kids are still off school, reminded me that I did not post the photos I made for sweet Debbie. She ordered this binder beginning of January to gift to a co-worker.Claudia_Rosa_binder_4

She was looking for something more vintage and had given me a few options on the image I could use. I loved “Hand me downs” Krista Smith drew the most. I totally forgot how large I printed the image out – probably around 60-65% I liked that I could have the girl large to really stand out on the larger front of this binder.

Claudia_Rosa_binder_2

The papers are all Magnolia Ink – They are from the Summer Memories Collection. I think one of my favorites, I pick them all the time. The red kitchen cloth is wonderful, it really combines beautifully with a lot of prints Magnolia has. I cant find my notes any longer what print the rose pattern is, I used all sheets up but if you like it, feel free to ask Janice or have a look at this kind “Wallpaper rose” it’s has the same colors. Its beautiful! I used every scrap of that kind as well Smile

Claudia_Rosa_binder_1The inside of the binder is completely finished as well, there are some pockets to add maybe a little gift. The wording “Adorable” is a rub-on by My Minds Eye.

On the reverse side I used up some left over paper of the rose patterned paper – its too gorgeous to have any piece wasted. Pretty vintage metal embellishments can be found at Sir Stampalot. The one I used is a decorative brad I put in place to use with a few stings of thin ribbons as a closure for the binder.

Claudia_Rosa_binder_3

Additionally I used:
Tim Holtz blending tool, distressed, Vintage photo, paper flowers (underneath some regular sized roses – they gave me extra coverage to fill empty spaces), white pearl clusters, metal corner embellishments, paper doily, cheery Lynn die (currently out of stock – come in a set of two), Magnolia Poinsettia die, Tim Holtz film strip, Stickles, hemp, corner rounder

Thanks ladies. Niklas, Lucas and I say hi and wish you a lovely day.

B = Birthday Bag & Birdhouse

Hello there!
We have a new challenge over for you posted on the Deep Ocean Challenge blog.
Please show us your idea for the letter “B” you know.. Bows, boys …Birthday and so on :-X
Cant wait to see what YOU come up with!

I would like to show you the paper bag I decorated yesterday morning “quickly” ( I was running sooo late with my stuff all last week) for Angie. Her birthday was on Sunday and I took her yesterday out to lunch to our favorite Chinese restaurant.
For a moment I thought how fun it would be to use Chinese girl called “Cherry Blossom” on the bag but I had not colored “Rebecca” in yet, so I thought she would look sweet in combination with the new Little Darlings papers as well. The papers I used today were picked from the Fruit Sorbet Collection.

Claudia_Rosa_Birthday Bag_2

Angie liked that big silver heart I used as buckle at the very top of the bag. It is actually a brad and it comes in a box with 120 pieces – you can see a smaller one used on one of the tags. The opening on the large one is so nice that it can function in so many different ways. I also used some cute little matte finish pale pink buttons on my bows and in the corner of the corrugated paper corner.
Here are some additional supplies I used: Magnolia postmark stamp
Spellbinder: twinking circles, Memory box die, paper doily, Magnolia Tildas Ticket, Magnolia Tea Label tag, Magnolia tag/label 3, Martha Stewart border punch

Claudia_Rosa_Birthday Bag_1

I will make it short with the last photo… inside the paper bag I added an other decorated birdhouse, this time I used “Gardener Gale” to decorate the outside. All new Saturated Canary stamps can now be purchased by example over at sweet Barbara’s shop Timbroscrapmania!
And yes… Smile thought the birdhouse was the perfect setting to house a Pandora charm box Smile I have so many ideas how to “give” those those beautiful addictive charms.
Dies: Magnolia heart die, Sentiment: Sweet Wonderful You by Magnolia

Thank you for taking time to visit me and look at the photos I took of my work. I appreciate each and everyone of you.
