Project Challenge #4: Burlap and Ticking

Good Morning!

It's time once again for a Project Challenge.

This months theme is Burlap or Ticking.

I decided to work with ticking and make myself a quilt that has been on my wish list for years.

Have a look. . .

I absolutely love the way it turned out.

I had trouble with one row, it turned out so wonky no matter what I did it just would not match up with the other rows.  But I couldn't be bothered to redo the row completely.  Now I'm glad I didn't since it is rather hard to find even when your looking for it.

Can you spot it?

I am also very happy I decided on using both blue and red stars, at first I was going to use all red stars but the think the combo of both makes it very interesting.

I won't go into a full tutorial on how I made the block because I followed a fabulous video tutorial by
The  Quilt Codex.  Check it out below.

How To Make An Over-sized Chalkboard: Project Challenge #3

Good Morning!

Like many of you, I'm loving the chalkboard trend that ones see's just about everywhere you turn these day's.

I have been pondering a way to use one in my decor for a while now.

With this months Project Challenge being all about chalkboard paint I couldn't think of a better time to put together a project I thought was worthy of trying out.

I decided a great big over-sized chalkboard would be a fun thing to add to the dinning room space.  Something with a simple frame that I could give a rustic finish to in order to make it cohesive with the cottage / farmhouse look I'm working with in my home.

After looking around a bit for a large frame to hold my longed for chalkboard I soon realized I was going to have to make the whole thing from scratch myself in order to get the size I wanted.

After gathering up some simple supplies I was ready to get started.

I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy this project was to finish.  It took me no more than a couple hours, most of which was waiting for paint to dry.

Check out the video tutorial below if you'd like the details and step-by-step instructions on how to make one for yourself.

The finished chalkboard turned out just as wonderful as I had hoped it would.

The kiddos are itch'in to be able to use it but they have to wait until after mamma get's her "pretty pictures".

Once they find where I've hidden the chalk, I'm sure my pretty chalkboard will be full of "beautiful" artwork!

Now that I've shown off my chalkboard paint project, make sure to go check out all the other creative and inspiring ways my fellow Project Challenge participants have dreamed up.

Below you'll find a handy-dandy link up for your convenience.

Enjoy!

Project Challenge #2: Clock Face

Good Morning!

It's time once again for another Project Challenge and I just have to say I am having such a fun time with these challenges.

We have such a great group of creative ladies and every month I am inspired by their unique creations.

This months challenge is the Clock Face and I decided to paint up a over-sized clock face which I hope has a farmhouse feel.

I decided to stick with a traditional black and white color scheme which I am totally obsessed with at the moment.

I am so glad I did . . . the finished clock makes me smile.

I love the over-sized scale of it and think it's just perfect for this small table in my Dining Room.

It adds such a great point of interest to an otherwise boring little corner of the room.

If you'd like to see a tutorial on how I've created this clock just watch the handy-dandy video below!

Project Challenge 2016: Spindles, Molding, or Trim

Morning!

It's Project Challenge time again.

The first of the year and I am very excited to show you what I've come up with.

This months theme is spindles, molding or trim.

For my project I decided to use screen molding to build myself a rustic looking Red Cross Sign.

I really like how it turned out!

Every now and then I come across a Red Cross sign used as an accent in some beautifully styled home and I have always thought they were lovely.

I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make one from my house.

I wanted it to look somewhat rustic so I decided on a pieced together look.

To do this I cut small pieces of screen molding at random until I had the design filled in.

Rather a labor intensive project but in the end it was so worth it.  The project as a whole turned out better than I could have hoped for!

I am sure to love it for years to come.

The supplies needed for the project were very basic and all things I had on hand already.

If your interested in a tutorial on how to make your own just watch the video tutorial below and I will walk you through the steps I took.

Project Challenge # 12: Book Pages or Sheet Music

Morning!

It's time again for a fun Project Challenge.

This months theme was book pages or sheet music.  It took me a while to come up with something new to make with book pages because in the past I've made quite a few project with it.

Finally I came up with a fun idea for a project to hang in my daughters room.

Take a look. . .

I think it turned out pretty cute.

To make it I started to two embroidery hoops, one ten inch and one six inch.  I then used embroidery thread to attache the two hoops together and to make a loop at the top to hang it from.

Next, taking a book I cut out three sizes of star shapes.  I then moved over to my sewing machine and started running the stars thru starting with the largest star first and working my way toward the smallest.  I used two stars in each size range.

The last step was to simple tie each strand of stars to the embroidery hoops making sure to space them out evenly.  Once they were all tied on I used my hot glue gun to add a little glue over each knot to hold it in place.
And that is it!

Now it's time time go check out the projects from the other talented ladies participating this month.

Project Challenge #11: Beadboard

Good Morning Everyone!

It's time once again for another Project Challenge!

The theme for the the month of November is Bead Board!

Bead Board! You say?

Oh yes, I'm a fan !!

Let's just jump right into what I did with a few scraps of bead board along with a quick tutorial and then we'll get you hooked up with all the fabulous projects from the other ladies participating in the challenge.

Take a look at my finished project . . .

Cute right!

I had been planning for months to craft some dove ornaments for my Christmas tree out of card stock this year but then Project Challenge time rolled around and I thought why not try to make them out of bead board instead!

I'm so happy that I gave it a try since I am now obsessed with my bead board doves I've made over a dozen of them already. . . may have to stop soon or get a bigger tree - - hmmm, decisions, decisions.

To start my project I first had my daughter (since I can't draw - - at. all!)  draw out a template for me.  I was able to cut out the design with a pair of scissors all by myself, LOL.

I then took two small scraps of bead board leftover from my kitchen remodel and slid together the two pieces to make one larger piece . . .

Then taking my template, I traced the design onto the bead board, being careful to keep the design centered along the line where I attached the two piece of bead board.

Then came the fun, yet sort of scary part...using my scroll saw.  I gently pulled apart the two piece of bead board to revile two separate sections of the dove to be cut out.  Placing one piece on the scroll saw at a time, I slowly cut along the lines I had previously traced.

The next step is to gently sand down all the edges so everything was nice and smooth.

Followed by finally gluing the pieces of the dove together.  I started by adding a little hot glue to the grooved side of my bead board then quickly slid the other section of the dove into the groove making sure the edges lined up evenly.  Then using more hot glue I attached the wing.

And it looked like this!

For paint I started with a black base and then brushed on an off white top coat.  After it was dry, I took some fine grit sandpaper and distressed the edges to revile the base coat color.

And finally, I added a loop of pretty lace to the back with more hot glue to make a loop for hanging my doves on the tree.

I just love how the finished project turned out!

Since I don't have my Christmas tree up yet, I hung them from the shelf hooks in my kitchen and I think they look great here too!   May have to make so more just to have extra's to hang here!

I had so much fun with this project . . .  now lets go check out all the other fabulous projects from the challenge!

Project Challenge #10: Duct Tape

It's time again for another Project Challenge!

This is the second month that I've participated and I have to say I am having a lot of fun with it.

This months theme is Duct Tape,

which I have to admit, threw me for a loop at first.  I spent most the the month trying to figure out what to make but once I settled into an idea it was fun.

Having never made anything out of duct tape before, now I understand why all three of my girls eyes grew big with excitement when they saw me unpack a fresh roll of duct tape from my shopping bag. . . I had to hide it away for safe keeping!

Now that my project is done, that fresh roll of duct tape is fair game for whoever finds it first and I can show off what I made with it.

I found a fun shaped lamp shade at the thrift store and wrapped the whole thing with duct tape . . . .

I then crafted tiny rose buds and leaves to glue onto the frame.

I think it turned out pretty awesome.
Even hubby says it looks nice - which is BIG!

Now I just have to find one of those cool clear glass light bulbs to use and I think it will be really neat!

In case you'd like to make something similar I've put together a grouping of photos to walk you through the steps of the process.
Enjoy!

The finished product is fun and pretty!

Now it's time to catch up with the other inspiring ladies also participating in the Project Challenge this month.
