One Last Post Of my current felted Knit Objects

It's always fun to see what happens when you felt the items you have knit.

I've also felted purses and totes in addition to containers and art objects.

Weekend Visitors

My granddog Oliver came to visit and quickly took possession of his favorite chair next to me.

Since I forgot to take a new picture of all of them this is one I took last time.

Julie spent time learning to knit, something she has wanted to do for a long time.

You can see several of the yarns here that I gave her. She is doing great.

Felting Knitted Containers

It has been a while since I knitted quite a few knitted containers to be felted.

This week I spent two days felting all of them. I was very pleased with the results.

In this picture you see the brown bowl in a vignette.

This is a closeup of the bowl. Each yarn felts slightly differently so it is always a surprise.

I will be sharing more of my results.

What Happened To The Green Bay Packer Socks I Was Knitting?

I started to knit these socks and the yarn and the gauge didn't work together so I put them aside.

My sewing light has a magnifier as part of it. It is dangerous to have a magnifier where the sun can shine on it as it could cause a fire. I added some more simple stitches and now I have a Green Bay Packer magnifier cover.

What Will This Attempt At A Sock Become?

This was my attempt to knit a pair of Green Bay Packers socks.  My yarn and the gauge didn't work so I just put them away.

I now have a new use for this single sock with a little more knitting involved.  Stay tuned

I'm Knitting Pin Cushions

I love to have some simple knitting to do while I watch TV.
My mother had a pincushion I loved and remembered. I could not find a pattern for it so I just experimented. This is my attempt to replicate it. I used a variegated yarn and this reminds me of a rose.

When I finished the first one there was this beautiful orange color left along with other fall colors.
I decided I'd make a pumpkin pincushion.
Both of these were done without patterns.

I Finished This And It Is Gorgeous

image
This is a picture of part of the mobius shawl I just finished knitting as a present for a friend. I can post it as she is not on Facebook.
I love creating this type of knitting with all the different textures and a color scheme to suit the recipient.

Now I have to decide what will be the next project as I need a knitting project to keep stress at bay!

It’s Not Finished Yet!

Y’all have asked to see this so I am sharing even though it is not done.
image
This is that yarn it took hours to untangle.
Everyone else said they knit it in an hour or two.
I’ll be lucky to knit it in 8 hours or so!
I don’t even like it as I don’t wear boas but it never said it would be a boa.
But I will keep it because I LOVE the colors…my current favorites. I'll come up with some way to wear it.
It’s a yarn that has been discontinued for several years.

What Ever Will Be, Will Be

I’m knitting again. This is just the beginning of something that will become clear in time.

Newest Afghan Finished!

image
This afghan is quite different than the ones I usually knit. It is knit with a very soft bulky but light weight yarn called POOF.
It is HUGE so I scrunched it up for this picture.
image
This was the best I could do with it laying flat because of space limitations. I used 16 skeins of yarn knitting each one until it was gone.
image
I hope you can feel how soft it is.

Glorious Felted Noro Scarf

image
Do you remember when I knit this scarf? I had several skeins of Noro yarn, each a different color combination. I was pleased with the finished piece, but it really needed to be slightly felted. Now that I know I could do it in my front loader washer it is done.
image
This is a closeup and you may be able to tell it is slightly felted….just enough to tighten up and even the stitches, but not enough to make it tight and stiff.
image

This is the picture I took right after I finished knitting it. The stitches are a little irregular, much as you would get before you block it.
The felting did what blocking would do and tightened up the stitches and made the scarf only slightly smaller.

AND …as with everything about me, it’s all about COLOR!

Wet Felting July 2017 Series

image
I am showing you the last piece from this series first. I had a group of yarns I combined to knit all these pieces. When I knit this one last the shape was determined by the amount of the different colors I had left.
image
These are all 6 of the pods and bowls I made.
You may remember when I asked if you knew what these were on a blog post a while ago?
knit bowls and pods
They look quit different now as the the colors blended and the texture tightened up so much. You may know I hardly ever follow a pattern. If I do I change it to fit my needs. These are a VERY LOOSE  adaptation of some directions I found.
image
I love how these three look with this piece or art. I never make things for a specific place/use but so often this happens.
I could never have envisioned these would have these colorations in the finished vessels.

It’s all about playing and what I have saved in my brain from a life time of living, whether I am creating a quilt, ice dye, knitting project, or other art.

WHAT Do You Think These Are?

image
I wanted to do some knitting but even though I have lots of yarn to knit my special afghans I didn’t want to get “that” involved.
So I decided to knit some smaller “things”. I carried a color plan throughout the group.
Originally I hadn’t planned to knit this many but I was enjoying it so much!
So WHO know what these are of will be????

Knitting - It’s All About COLOR and TEXTURE

One of the reasons I enjoy knitting these afghans so much is that I love to work with color and use color flow in so much of my art. I am able to make these transitions because I have acquired quite a palette of yarn with more on the way.

The very first one I made was my attempt to use up some of the yarn I had. I soon had to start filling in colors to make it work. And now I have a lot more yarn than I started with!

image
Over the years I have refined and  improved the methods for the pieces I create. I can make them specifically for family and friends to enhance the colors they love. I no longer add fringe as it tickles you when you use them!

I rarely make them to coordinate to a decorating scheme and that is something that people change on a whim
[image%255B9%255D.png]
The textures inherent in the yarns give me another way to make spectacular art. The yarns vary in weight and thickness which just adds to creating another degree of texture. I do seek out many novelty yarns in my quest as it adds even more interest.
image
I can also combine any and all types of yarn no matter what the fiber content.
image
Of course knitting (and most other handwork) is one of the most relaxing things we can do…unless it is one of those patterns we have to pay attention to for each and every stitch.
IMG_2078
Since I only use garter stitch that is not a concern for me as I knit them.

This one is still a work in progress and I am awaiting more special yarns to finish it.
The finished pieces are soft, comfy and warm.
These are just a few of the 17 I have made to date and I am now working on number 18.

What Do You Do In Florida When It’s 86 Degrees

image
You turn on the A/C and you knit an afghan.
It has been quite a while since I have taken time to knit.
All these delicious gorgeous yarns were calling my name.
Each of the 17 afghans I have made in my signature colorful style are so different than any of the others.
Whether it is quilts, dyed fabric, polymer clay, clothing or anything else there is nothing like color to start my creative juices flowing.
Not only color, but texture makes these afghans so appealing. Once I start it’s hard to stop since I want to see what the next yarn is going to look like, and the next, and the next, ……………..

Two Weeks, Two Hats Knit, Two Packer Wins

I knit GREEN and GOLD!
You can bet I will be knitting another Packer hat today!
Caleb showing off his Packer hat
Caleb was the first recipient of one of my crazy funky Packer hats.
image
Kevin said if I knit one for him he’d never take it off! So he got the second one.

image
And true to family photo ops here you see the hat with a toe!
But you also see the glitz and all the different textured yarns to make this special and fun.
WHO will be gifted with hat number 3? It has to be someone who has the chutzpah to carry it off and wear it! Let me know if you think YOU are the one……….
Jeff Jr? Heidi? Nate? Jeff Sr? or someone who is not on this list????

My 4 Most Recent Afghans

image
These are some of my most recent afghan finishes.
I have been enjoying knitting these for a long time, but this year I have finished 7 of the 14 I have made. Number 15 is almost done.
It is a very relaxing activity and doesn’t require any attention to a pattern as I knit.
But the thing I think I like best is how I can combine various colors of yarn that are perfect for the home of the recipient.
Fortunately I have a large collection of yarns in almost any color I need. I not only rely on color but also texture as that makes these so tactile and warm.’'

It’s DONE!

image
I am thrilled to have finished this afghan for MYSELF!
It is soft, warm, colored beautifully and is very lightweight.
I used one strand of a lovely burgundy mohair throughout along with another strand of different yarns to add color variation and texture.
It’s not your grandmothers burgundy, not the burgundy of the 1980’s.
I colored it so it could be used in just about any decorating scheme!

I Needed To Knit

image
The most relaxing thing I do is knit. Once quilters gave up hand quilting for machine quilting so many of us went back to knitting as that had the same benefits we had previously got from hand quilting.
I had a nice collection of burgundy yarns and variations of burgundy from red to pink to lavender and beyond.
This one is being knit with one strand of burgundy mohair throughout and one strand of a variety of yarns. I have already knit one afghan using one strand of burgundy throughout and after I finish this one I think I’ll have enough of that burgundy mohair to do two more with this idea. I don’t remember how or when I acquired all this burgundy mohair!
I really love this one. When I started it I didn’t know who it was going to be for. By the time I got the first 10 inches done I knew I couldn’t give it up and it will be MINE!

Finished Knitting Scarf

image
I finished knitting my scarf today.
It is about 90 inches long. I still need to weave in the ends, block it and do a little felting which means it will be a little shorter.
I carefully watched the colors and the amount of yarn I used and I am proud to say I finished with less than 2 yards of yarn!
