Floral Felicity

Flower quilts remind us of spring all year 'round! There are so many possibilities for flower quilts: pieced or appliqued, traditional or modern.  Here is a modern pieced garden that brings to mind the flowers, birds, and insects of spring.

Garden Dwellers, made and quilted by Jana Knutson

Starting with the Floral Felicity pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful, Jana Knutson chose a pattern layout to feature only her favorite blocks. There is a large gray bunny, a ladybug, bees, and a bluebird, along with stylized flowers made with curved piecing!

Quilting with Kaffe Fassett fabrics! (1)

What do we love about Kaffe Fassett's fabrics? Their vibrant colors! For more than two decades, Kaffe Fassett has inspired quilters to go wild with color and texture. Here are some gorgeous quilts showcasing fabrics from the Kaffe Fassett Collective.

Color Garden, made and quilted by Jana Knutson

Bring on the color in this garden of trees and flowers! Some of the "branch" fabrics blend with the "tree" fabrics, while others have a strong contrast. The overall effect comes in and out of focus as you look at the quilt. Horizontal bands were created by grouping blocks with similar colors. Jana Knutson says that Color Garden was based on a quilt design called Arboretum by Springleaf Studios.

Queens Cross by Elizabeth Sonnenfeld, quilted by Quality Quilterz

This stunning New York Beauty-style quilt was based on the Queens Cross pattern by Jen Kingwell. We love the color combinations, spiky points, and contrasts! Elizabeth Sonnenfeld says, "This pattern really appealed to me, especially using colorful Kaffe Fassett fabrics. The process of making the blocks was longer than usual but very enjoyable." Check out the teal blue and olive green combination below!

Hot Tucson Nights, made and quilted by Linda Cote

Wow, this quilt is as hot as the summer nights in Tucson, Arizona! So many wonderful fabrics were used. The orange and red blocks are interspersed with pops of blue and purple, providing a respite and focal points for the design. Linda Cote says that Hot Tucson Nights was based on a "Scrappy Surprise" pattern by Virginia Robertson Designs.

Double Wedding Ring quilts: Metro Rings!

The Double Wedding Ring is the most popular pattern in the history of quilting. Here are two beautiful examples. These quilters show that it's never too late to make a wedding ring quilt... these were made to celebrate decades-long anniversaries!

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on patterns, jewelry, and collectibles !

40th Wedding Anniversary Quilt, made and quilted by Jana Knutson (Tucson).

Jana Knutson says, "I've wanted to make a wedding ring qult for many years! Finally, for my 40th wedding anniversary, I did it.  It was not as hard as I thought it would be using this pattern and curved rulers."  It must have been fun to choose the pretty batiks for this design. Pattern:  Metro Rings by Sew Kind of Wonderful.

Double Wedding Ring, made and quilted by Sheila Arnold.

Winner of 1st place in its category at the recent Arizona Quilters Guild show, Sheila Arnold says: "I finished this quilt for our 60th wedding anniversary celebration in June, 2024. I used the Quick Curve ruler for the pathwork, quilted the motifs (computer guided) on my embroidery machine (Anita Goodesign) and free-motion stippled the remaining spaces on my home sewing machine."

We love Sheila Arnold's sunflower quilting design in the centers of the rings. Pattern source: Metro Rings by Sew Kind of Wonderful.
