Faith, Hope and Love at Easter

On Easter, many of us take the time to reflect on the promise of hope and new life in the Easter story. Here is a luminous stained glass quilt with a beautiful message of Faith, Hope and Love.

Rays of Hope - Stained Glass version by Carolyn Morris

This quilt was exhibited at the 2013 Arizona Quilters' Guild show and shown on Q.I. that year. Carolyn Morris says: "Using gradation batiks, each section was cut individually, ironed in place, and quilted with irregular satin stitches.  The trapunto cross was machine embroidered and then appliqued to the front."

You can find the pattern at Rays of Hope Quilts at Etsy and see Carolyn explain the full story on YouTube.

The design came to Carolyn Morris on Easter, 2011, in response to her own prayer. Carolyn says: "My life is dedicated to serving others. For many years that involved my three children and their training. Now that they have children of their own, I use the talents that I have to enrich the lives of others. Many of the quilts I make are small 15" squares with embroidery messages or scriptures on them. I give many away to those in need of prayers."

To Spring

Spring is here, and it's time to celebrate simple pleasures — flowers, butterflies, and blue skies.  This quilt features spring motifs with an emphasis on primary colors and a green border.  Its classic blocks bring to mind the joys of springtime, Easter, and quilting.

To Spring by Debbie Corbett, 33" x 45", quilted by Mike Corbett

Winner of the Second Place award for Mixed Media quilts, Debbie explains, "This is a cheery quilt taking us into springtime. We utilized mixed media with applique and embroidery. There are many different quilting pattern, honey bees, grass, and those first spring flowers."

(The pattern is "Changing Seasons-Springtime" by The Stitch Connection).

But wait, there's more ! Debbie's creation also includes an adorable Easter bunny with a carrot, bright tulips tied with ribbon, a kite with a ribbon tail, a butterfly out in the spring breeze, and a darling cottage with a heart above the doorstep. Sunny yellow sashing and a perky half-square triangle border help complete this happy look.  We wish you a wonderful spring season, full of new awakenings, a sense of re-birth, and the hope for eternal renewal.

Easter Blessings

~ At this time of year we wish you all the blessings of Easter. ~
The flowering crocus can be regarded as an essential symbol of the awakening of nature, resurrection, and the renewal of life.*  We've long admired the beautiful Spring Crocus quilt by Jan Krentz, shown below.

(Note: please check out our E-Bay shop for great bargains on quilt patterns, fabric, and collectibles ! For continuous free quilt patterns, please visit us on Twitter !)

Spring Crocuses by Jan P. Krentz (California)

The colors of spring crocus are white, light violet, and dark violet. The flowers, buds, and leaves are mainly machine pieced with some applique. Jan Krentz says the inspiration for this quilt was a photo she saw in a Smith & Hawken gardening catalog of a misty, grassy slope scattered with naturalized crocuses in bloom. The design was created in a five-day workshop conducted by Ruth B. McDowell in 1990.

Spring Crocuses was juried into the 2016 Art Quilt Invitational show at the Brigham City Museum (Utah). Jan Krentz is the author of Lone Star Quilts and Beyond and other bestselling quilting books. Ruth B. McDowell pioneered paper pieced techniques as taught in Ruth B. McDowell's Design Workshop and other books.

Celebrating Easter 2018

Easter is a religious holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. At Easter time, we wanted to share this beautiful mosaic quilt by Marie Wood. She used hand-dyed fabrics and fusible applique to re-create a mosaic image of Jesus seen at Duc In Altum in Israel.

Jesus Calling - Duc In Altum by Marie Wood (Alpharetta, Georgia, USA)

Duc In Altum exalts the presence of women in the Gospel. This image of Jesus' merciful face is from a mosaic mural dedicated to the daughter of Jairus, whom Jesus raised from the dead.  The murals at Duc In Altum "seek to express the loving power of God that is bestowed on men [and women] through the actions of his divine hand."

Spring and Easter Quilts!

Spring has sprung, and Easter is drawing near !  It's a favorite time of year with visions of flowers in bloom and sunny days.  Here are quilts that inspire us with springlike colors, baskets, and bunnies.

Easter Basket by Marlene Cook, quilted by LaReesa Baldwin

With its basket full of tulips, surrounded by chicks and eggs, Marlene Cook describes this project as fun to make. She used lattice print fabric to create the basket, and embellished the flowers with colorful buttons.

Embroidery stitches add detail to the chicks and flowers.  (We're still searching for the source of this adorable pattern.)

Rhapsody in Blues by Georgia Thorne

Georgia Thorne used a selection of  stitches, fabric paint, threads and Angelina to create her original design.  This lovely quilt was inspired by music, hence the title, Rhapsody in Blues.  The bunny was made with trapunto.

Bunny Block by LeAnn Hileman

LeAnn Hileman says, "My appliqued bunnies are framed by grassy rings of green." The blocks were based on Grandma's Bunnies by Darcy Ashton.  The blanket stitch applique, done in black thread, gives the bunnies a vintage feel.

Carrot Patch by Kathy Urban

This darling carrot patch-themed quilt is complete with rabbits, chicks, and lots of carrots! The pattern is by The Quilt Company.  Kathy Urban says, "I love animals and enjoy making seasonal quilts that I can bring out to celebrate a certain time of year. This one made me laugh when I saw the chick in high heels."

Rabbits Prefer Chocolate by Rose Rumball-Petre

This is a wonderful Easter color version of the Rabbits Prefer Chocolate pattern by Anne Sutton. Inspired by vintage chocolate molds, each block has it's own personality. We love Rose Rumball-Petre's use of pastel colors and the combination of yellow and periwinkle in the border.  The quilt was machine pieced and appliqued, and hand quilted.
