Hearts and Flowers

This charming quilt features a symmetrical arrangement of appliqued hearts and flowers in traditional prints.  It is beautifully appliqued and quilted.

Saving Grace by Ruth Murray Hull, quilted by Paula Murray

"Saving Grace" was based on the Sweet Romance pattern by Blackbird Designs.  We can imagine this quilt in a variety of fabrics.  The soft hues used here give a cozy, traditional look to this quilt. The centers of the flowers were quilted to emphasized the heart shapes, as shown below.

Peppermint and Holly by Cherie Swanson, quilted by Nancy Stein

Here is a festive quilt featuring baskets of blooms and berries, with peppermint sashes and an elegant holly leaf border.

Cherie Swanson says, "Piecing and hand applique are my favorite combination of techniques. The holly gives hints of Christmas but this quilt will stay out all year." The Peppermint and Holly pattern is from Quilting the Garden by Barb Adams (Blackbird Designs, 2004). Cherie's beautiful applique work can be seen in the closeup photo, below.

Peppermint and Holly
