Pixel this!

Pixel quilting involves translating an image into a grid of fabric squares, each representing a pixel.  It's often used to turn a cherished photo of a favorite person or pet into a one-of-a-kind quilt. Today's featured quilt was inspired by singer and song-writer Pink, aka Alecia Beth Moore.

The quilt was inspired by an iconic image of Alecia Beth with a pink bubble gum bubble. In discussing the inspiration for her quilt, Shelly Shoultes cites a quote by Pink: "True beauty is knowing who you are and what you want and never apologizing for it." 

Shelly says, "I love [Pink's] music, lyrics, style, and unfiltered thoughts. This quilt is a tribute to her as an amazing artist and to women everywhere.  It represents friendship, strength, compassion, and nurturing."

We're fascinated to see how just a few pixels can represent facial features, such as the blue eye in this closeup photo.  It takes considerable skill to choose fabrics with the right values to make a realistic image!  It was longarm quilted by Natalia Bonner using "graffiti quilting", a technique developed by Karlee Porter that incorporates a wide variety of designs to create visually striking patterns.
