Sheep!

We've just spent a rather lovely week in Devon, with lots of walking and of course at least two forages to quilt shops!  In the autumn my craft class is making a sewing bag and I wanted to make mine out of Tilda fabric so I visited Cowslip Workshops, actually in Cornwall and definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, which I knew had an excellent selection of Tilda!

I had a couple of these fabrics already so Im pleased with how well they sit with the ones I already had.  I also bought myself some fabric to make a pair of summer trousers - I just need to find a pattern and of course the time to make them!

While away I put some more stitches into my little sheep cross stitch.

The next part of the Oceans SAL came out yesterday and it's gorgeous I really can't wait to start on it but first I have a pile of ironing and the spare room to organise for guests that are arriving tomorrow!

Chirp, Winnie the Pooh and Downton Abbey

It was a very busy weekend with the grandchildren and some what stressful with little man hitting his neck while playing on a round about in the park near us.  We didn't worry too much because he cried but didn't actually fall over.  However when he started vomiting 12 hours later there was a dash to A and E where they did a CT scan of his head, which thank goodness was fine, so no fracture but he has a very purple and green bruise just behind his ear, poor little man.  He seems fine now now but very stressful!

On with the stitching!!  I've been adding stitches to this over the last few days, although I did start it some time ago.  But here is the progress on Bird number 9 from Sue Spargo's book Chirp.

I also wanted to show you Ambers first piece of tapestry.  She is five now but started over a year ago, it's something we do when she visits me and sometimes can only manage a few stitches, but this weekend she really wanted to get it finished!  I had to put the needle in the right hole and she would pull it through, but she was also in charge of cutting the wool.  I think she did an excellent job!

Tigger is next and he is long stitches rather than the tent stitch so should grow faster.

On Tuesday I met two of my girlfriends at Highclere Castle.  It is only about 55mls from where I live but my first visit. We had all watched Downton Abbey, so recognised all the rooms, library, dining room, the grand hall, all the bedrooms, except Lady Mary's room which was filmed in the studio in London - apparently Anna had a theatre commitment in London so needed to be closer to town and the room where Farouke - don't know how to spell that or if I've even got his name right, where he met his end!!  There were lots of photos of the family and of Queen Elizabeth who was the current 8th Earl of Carnarvon's godmother.  His father was a great friend of the late Queen and was his racing manager.  I've added a couple of photos for any Downton Abbey fans.

I will try to link up with Kathy for some slow Sunday stitching

Ocean Wonders of the Sea

This is going to be a super quick post!  I have the grandchildren staying for the weekend which means there won't be any time for my sewing. although Amber has been working on her tapestry of Winnie the Pooh.  Hopefully it will be finished in the next couple of days and I can show it next week!  In the mean time here is the completed fourth part of Ocean Wonders of the Sea.

This section consisted of 3138 stitches and has sea ice, harbour seals, Atlantic puffins and wandering albatross.

I also wanted to include a photo of a New Forest foal.  The first one of the season.  As the stallions are released at the same time every year this little girl will be the first of many!

That's all for this week.  More next week hopefully.

Ocean Wonders of the Sea

It's been a bit of a week!  My poor step mum, who is 95, fell and she normally bounces but not this time.  She has a hip fracture and had it repaired on Friday.  I was travelling to see her on the Thursday when my brother called to say she had been taken to hospital.  Luckily my brother and I could stay with her through Dr's examinations, x rays and then on to the ward.  Of course the hard work starts now and yesterday she started her physio.

But before all of that I did some work on Ocean Wonders of the Sea and got the two little puffins and the rest of the wave stitched.

If I get time today I will start on the ice berg and two seals.

We got home yesterday afternoon and I fortunately had an email reminding me that The Thread House free taster weekend was under way. This was recommended to me by Gail (the cozy quilter) and this morning I have watched one of the videos to make a small sewing pouch (I really can't resist them) and a little zipper pouch.  I'm looking forward to sorting out some fabric to hand stitch the surface and make them.  And I admit I am very tempted to join them for a year of classes!

I will link up with Kathy for some slow Sunday stitching and hopefully get some more stitches added to my SAL.

Ocean Wonders of the Sea and Sheep!

As always it's been a busy week, this time with three days of looking after the grandchildren.  this involved school and nursery run, swimming lessons and rugby tots.  We are consequently exhausted so today I am looking forward to some slow Sunday stitching!  Here's what I have been up too.

The 4th part of Ocean Wonders of the Sea came out last week and I made a start on the albatross.

Next will be some of the border and a couple of puffins.  I also made a start on another little sheep virtues project.  I think this one is Peace, but I could be wrong!

this picture also shows my new embroidery stand and I must admit I love it, very comfortable to use and frees up both hands.  It's a pity I can't put my oceans frame in it.

Hop on over to Kathys blog for some more stitchy inspiration.

Ocean Wonders of the sea

Well here we are in April, hard to believe we are a quarter of the way through this year already!!  I've had a bit of a stitching spurt to get the third part of the Ocean Wonders of the Sea finished.  I've still got nearly two weeks before the next part is published but I wanted to get on and finish the dress I'm making hence a cross stitch push!  This part consisted of 1850 stitches (total stitches 6499 - can I say I had no idea how many stitches were involved but some people have these programmes that calculates this sort of thing and it's quite interesting to know)

Here we have a Polar bear, some Emperor penguins and a school of Atlantic herring.

I'm really enjoying this stitchalong!  Tomorrow I should be able to link up with Kathy for some slow Sunday stitching.  In the mean time have a lovely Easter.

Ocean Wonders of the Sea

I've been busy making a summer dress at a dressmaking class but doing that has played havoc with my neck and shoulder but I have put in some stitches over the last two weeks on my Ocean wonders of the sea SAL.  The Polar bear is nearly completed and I have made a good start on the shoal of herring!

I will link up with Kathy tomorrow for some slow Sunday stitching
