Folk Flowers and Ocean Wonders

We have yet again had wall to wall rain with more flooding in my area and the neighbouring county.  Which means we have spent a lot of time in doors and for me that has meant lots of stitching time!  I have been trying my hardest to get bits done on the Folk Flowers cross stitch.  So I have shared my time between that and the new SAL on Ocean Wonders of the sea.

Good progress here I think and a bit more of a push and it will be completed!  But I also wanted to show some progress on the new SAL and again I'm pleased with how much I have achieved - especially as it has taken quite a bit of counting and positioning.

We have had the grandchildren here today so no sewing will be done today but tomorrow for slow Sunday stitching I hope to crack on with this one.  The 2nd part is issued on 15th February and it would be nice if I had the first part completed!

Hop on over to Kathy's blog and see what others are stitching at the moment.

Folk Flowers and Ocean Wonders of the Sea

I've managed to get some more stitches into m Folk Flowers project this week, and I'm pleased to say flower number five is finished apart from a small section on either side.  I will do that when I get to that colour on flower six.

I finally caved in on starting another SAL with climbing goat designs.  I do have lots of UFOs but my little 3 year old grandson loves whales, sharks, anything to do with under the sea and I couldn't resist!  There are eleven parts to this, the final part is published on 15th November (just before his birthday) so it is a big project.  The other thing that sold it for me was the beautiful hand dyed graduated fabric from Finland (FinnSticher's Factory.)  It gets darker as the ocean gets deeper.  I just love it.

It does however require a big variety of colours, 56 in total!!  I had half of them already but apart from the DMC thread I needed two sparkly ones - blue and white and the reel on the side is glow in the dark.  The first part was released on the 15th and I have made a start, which of course on such a big project is always a bit nerve wracking!  Hopefully next week I will be able to show some progress.

Folk Flowers and Hexies

We had rather a busy day on Wednesday with a lot of driving so the last few days we have taken it easy (apart from walking Lola of course) and consequently I have some good progress to show you.  Another Folk Flower has been completed and I'm on to the fifth one.

In between cross stitching I have been joining some more hexies together.  I bought myself a fabric glue pen to speed up the process, which it does, but I actually quite like the act of thread basting the fabric around the hexie, so I might well go back to that.

While stitching I have been listening to an audio book, I have to wear earbuds because DH also listens to audio books and I got a bit fed up of untangling the earbuds from the debris that sits on the table next to my chair, so I made a little zipped pouch last night - something I have been meaning to do for ages!

This pouch was also prompted by my purchase of several metres of different coloured zips.  I had spoken to the women in my class who said it can be tricky attaching the pull.  Happy to say after watching a You Tube video and using a fork gripped between my knees I managed it first time!

Folk Flowers and Hexies

It has been an incredible busy week!  Monday was spent with my sewing group.  We had someone in to teach us some willow weaving.  It was good fun and we all came away with something resembling a swallow.  Here is my effort!

Then it was several days looking after Joshua (nursery hasn't started yet)  We always have fun with him although it is very tiring.  Then on Friday we went to the cinema to see The Choral.  Good film, but sad as well.  And DH has gone off today to see Avatar at the cinema with Faye and then they are having dinner.  I have no interest in seeing this film, partly because it's over three hours long!  I've had a lovely relaxing day so far, pottering and adding a few more stitches to Folk Flowers and making the odd hexie.

Tomorrow I will link up with Kathy for some slow Sunday stitching

Happy New Year!

 Happy New Year!

A really cold Artic snap has hit the UK this week.  But today despite the heavy frost the sun is shining and the sky is blue.  We walked the dog across the common and up on to the cliff top and despite the bitter cold it was so clear.  We could see all the way round the bay to the buildings in Swanage which is miles away.  It was nice however to get back into our cosy house and warm up.  Today I am looking forward to settling down and joining the rest of the slow Sunday stitching crew and adding some more stitches to a project I don't think I touched last year!  I'm not sure why it hasn't seen the light of day for so long because I really like the design and colours in it.  The only thing is it is very fine and I sometimes struggle seeing the holes.  I may have to abandon using linen on my next project and stick with Aida.  This pattern is from Satsuma Street called Folk Flowers.

I am not making any New Years resolutions (lets face it they never last) but I do want to try and finish some of those UFOs that have been around for a long time.  Trouble is I do get sucked into some of the wonderful projects that get shown in January.  This one sucked me in when I saw it on someone's blog and I can't remember which one.  But I tracked down the patterns in the UK and purchased 4 out of the 12 patterns.  These would look lovely on linen but as I said I need to think carefully about using linen in future.

I've also seen a new SAL starting the middle of January with Climbing Goat.  I really enjoyed her Advent Penguin SAL and this one is called Oceans.  My grandson loves whales, sharks and sea creatures so I admit I am very tempted...... lets see how long I can hold out!

Hop on over to Kathy's blog to see other projects being continues or started!!
