Felted Daffodil

"March brings breezes, loud and shrill; Stirs the dancing daffodil - Sara Coleridge

Today I had my Creative Embroidery class and continuing with the Sara Coleridge poem we made felted daffodils. I was not very good at it, but others in the class were obviously on a mission to make a bouquet of dafs and made several!

Below is a photo of my felted daffodil amongst some in my garden (looks real....hehehe)

Mothering Sunday

It's Mothering Sunday in the UK, so hopefully any mums that are reading this in the UK are having a lovely day!

Today it is a day not only to get spoilt (fingers crossed) but a day when you can slow down and do some crafting/stitching! I've managed to finish the crochet bag that I have been struggling with and before I can crochet the bag flap and handle I have to sew all those pesky ends in.  OK so its not technically sewing but it does involve a needle, so its good enough for me!

Then later on I will carry on with my 1 year in stitches. There are only a few days left of March and I'm looking forward to moving onto the next colour - either yellow (not much of that in my thread box, or pink...slightly more!

Crochet

For Christmas, my lovely daughter bought me a kit to crochet a weekend bag (it's called a weekend bag because you can make it in a weekend!) I started making it before I went on holiday but realised the recommended size crochet hook was to big, I'm obviously crochet loosely and I needed to down size (my lovely daughter then gave me a set of crochet hooks for my birthday in March). So I ripped out what I had done - luckily only a few stripes and started again. But I'm not very experienced at crochet and it seems I have difficultly in counting also! This piece has been ripped back so many times I've lost count because keeping to rounds of 80 stitches is virtually impossible! But I am persevering because I love the colours and even if it does take more than a weekend to complete..... I will complete it!

The kit uses Stylecraft chunky wool and was designed by Lucy at Attic 24, and you can read her blog HERE.

Slow Sunday Stitching

It's been a busy week. Its always the same when you return from holiday (especially six weeks away) there is a mountain of washing to do, along with cutting the grass and taking the garden rubbish to the dump (two car loads - we really should have done it before we went on holiday!!!!) But the nice thing is my daughter has come to stay for a long weekend and this afternoon we are off to the hotel where she got married for afternoon tea!

Consequently I haven't had a lot of time to sew this week, but I've managed the odd stitch on my '1 year of stitches' project.

And I felt sorry for those poor little owls that had no eyes (they really do make all the difference).  Yesterday Faye and I popped into our local craft shop to stock up on some more embroidery thread and I hope for slow Sunday stitching to get the middle picture embroidered  (I now have the right shade of green to do it). In between walking the dog and a cream tea of course!!

1 year of stitches

Not a huge amount to show for last weeks efforts but we were driving home. It took a week to drive up through Portugal, into Spain and then France before catching our ferry home to England last night! But I did keep up the challenge, even if on some days it was literally 1 stitch per day.

Hopefully there will be more to show next Sunday!!

X stitch

I haven't shown the progress on my little Owl cross stitch for a while so thought I would post a photo. Must get some eyes on those poor owls! but I'm pleased with the way it's going.

1 year of stitches

It really exciting to be starting a new colour for March. I don't have so many purples and mauves as I do blues and greens so I will have to buy some (what a shame!)

Still loving the whole process!

Craft Morning

Some of us remembered to bring our finished bower birds to the craft morning.  They are very cute (mine by the way is the only one with a tail!

I've not got a lot to show for my mornings crafting (it will eventually be a needle case)! Instead we spent the morning gossiping and drinking coffee. This was my last craft session in Portugal because next week we start the long drive home!
