Rainbow scrap challenge and Brockenhurst Fiesta

I've been making green hexies for my Grandmothers Garden quilt.  It's nice to sit and watch the television and make them, a relaxing pass time.  I've decided the pattern I'm going to use for the hexies (not sure how many I am going to need though) - hence the aqua surrounding the green, but every time I see someone else pattern, I want to do that one as well!!

It was also Brockenhurst Embroidery Fiesta today, so I popped along this morning and spent an enjoyable couple of hours browsing the stalls with some wonderful space dyed cottons, fabrics, wool and threads.  I did spend some money (it would have been rude not too) and treated myself to a couple of books (I only meant to buy one and kept going back to the other one to have a look), some silk and some skeins of thread.

Rainbow scrap challenge

I thought I had done everything I wanted to do with the colour green for April, until I saw the Dancing Stars block on Julie's Quilts and Costume blog where she had posted her rainbow scrap challenge blocks on Soscrappy.  The pattern comes from Amy's Creative Side (the button is on the side bar).

I also needed to catch up with the other colours so I managed to get a couple more blocks done.

And thank you Julie for putting me onto this fabulous block - I love it!  And thanks also to Angela at Soscrappy for hosting the Rainbow scrap challenge, which is such fun.

Embroidery broach

I decided to keep the uneven sequins!  It's so tiny I don't think it really makes a big difference.  I also manage to salvage the broken antennae and put another bead on.  Just needs to be soldered out (that will have to wait for my next class in May) and a pin sewn onto the back and finished!

Butterfly broach and fabric

The little butterfly broach I started last Saturday is nearly finished!  I realise looking at the photograph that the sequins should have been symmetrical.  Isn't it funny how when I was sewing them on it never occurred to me.  In fact I went out of my way to put them in a different place.  Now the question is will it annoy me that they are random?  and should i take them off and reattach?

I will let you know!

And I received this in the post last week from my god-daughter - 4 metres of fabric!  It's always exciting when you get something unexpected in the post and when its fabric yay!

Butterfly broach

Yesterday I did an embroidery/textile class and we started making a butterfly broach.  It's always good fun attending these classes and having a jolly good natter with like minded people and the bonus of course is learning something new!
This is some angelina ironed onto black felt and then pearl purl (I think that's what its called) couched around the outline of the butterfly.
Couching completed, eyes added and a few beads sewn onto her body!  Unfortunately during the outlining of her body I broke an antennae bead, so will have to figure out if I can unwind the purl and add another one.  I then need to finish the body and add some embellishment to her wings.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge - GREEN

April's colour is green, so no problems there for me as I have tons of green!
I've added a couple of  blocks to the challenge.
and they make a really nice addition.
I wasn't happy with the original Disappearing Four Patch blocks, so decided to re-do the orange, purple and  pink blocks from the start of the year - now I like them even better.
I forgot to mention you can see what everyone else has made that's green by clicking on the RSC13 button on the side bar.  Have fun!

Easter weekend

It has been a lovely Easter weekend.  It was bitterly cold Friday and Saturday but we still enjoyed walks along the beach.  Pinks our local fabric and embroidery shop closed its doors today for the last time.  I popped in and got a couple more fat quarters to add to last weeks stash builders.

Sunday was warmer so we could get out into the garden and actually got the big hedge trimmed.  It's a bit of a chore and only gets done twice a year so really pleased we've done it!

On the sewing front I did do some cross stitch.  Only have the outline stitching to do!
Oh yes in case you didn't realise it's a ballerina!
And here are the little Easter bags (full of choccy goodies) for the kids - so what if they're grown up!!!
