I absolutely love living on the edge of the New Forest but if I lived in London still I would definitely be participating in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations! With that in mind we went to Mottisfont (a National Trust property near Romsey) to see an exhibition of Patrick Lichfield's polaroid pictures. He started taking pictures in the sixties and kept a record of what he had taken over the years in polaroids (about 6cm square), framing a years worth of photos and hanging them on the wall of his studio in West London. Every photo for him, told a story of the person and the fun he had had photographing them! There are about 50 - 60 pictures in every frame, starting in 1970 through to 2005 (he died suddenly in November 2005). He was best known as the royal photographer, but he took hundreds of pictures of people who weren't at the time famous but later became well known - actresses and actors, politicians etc. Interestingly he took The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana's wedding photographs but there were none of them in the exhibition, but some good pictures of The Queen and Prince Phillip and Princess Ann.
I couldn't take photographs inside the exhibition so I've included some pictures taken in the grounds of Mottisfont!
Mottisfont has a beautiful walled garden that is full of English roses, unfortunately we were here a bit too early, so lots of roses in bud but not in bloom. We'll come back in about 2 weeks to see them again!
I'm not entirely sure the relevance of the mosaic angel, but I really like her. The light and dark shade on her face is wonderful!
