Wát een heerlijk weer was het gisteren hé? Hebben jullie er ook zo van genoten? Na alle goede voorspellingen vond ik het aan het begin van de middag een beetje tegenvallen… de wind was hier toch best nog wel fris. Maar later in de middag konden we toch lekker buiten zitten om van het zonnetje te genieten.
What a lovely weather yesterday wasn’t it? Did you also enjoyed it so? After all the good predictions I was at first a bit disappointed at the beginning of the afternoon... the wind was still quite fresh. But later in the afternoon we were able to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine.
Na al jullie lieve reakties op mijn vorige bericht, waar ik jullie ook heel erg voor wil bedanken, heb ik de stoute schoenen aangetrokken en ben ik stof gaan halen om aan ‘Spirit of Winter’ te gaan beginnen. Mijn moeder had ooit van iemand een schoenendoos vól met borduurgaren gekregen en daar ben ik eerst in gaan snuffelen om te zien welke kleurtjes ik kon gebruiken. Het patroon heeft zo ongeveer 90 verschillende kleurtjes dus dat zijn er heel wat, maar in de doos van mam vond ik zo’n 60 nummers die ik nodig had. Nu maar hopen dat het ook de goede nummers zijn, want het garen is allemaal op kartonnetjes gewikkeld waar de nummers bijgeschreven zijn.
After all your kind responses to my previous post, for which I want to thank you all so much, I plucked up courage and I went to get fabric to get started with 'Spirit of Winter ". My mother once received a shoebox full with embroidery thread from someone and I first took a look in that box to see what colors I could use. The pattern has almost 90 different colors, so that’s a lot, but in mom's box I found about 60 colors that I need. Lets hope that these are the right colors, because the yarn is all wound on cardboard where the numbers are credited.
De ontbrekende kleurnummers heb ik er bijgekocht en inmiddels ben ik begonnen. Het zijn wel iemiemienie kruisjes en op het kleine stukje dat ik inmiddels geborduurd heb, kom je al 5 verschillende kleurtjes tegen. Niet dat dat ook te zien is, want de kleuren liggen zo dicht bij elkaar! Het is dus ook best lastig te zien waar je gebleven bent… maar het komt goed!
The missing color numbers I have bought and I've started. The crossstitches are very tiny and in the small piece I've been stitching, you find already 5 different colors . Not that it can also be seen, because the colors are so close together! So it is quite difficult to see where you left off ... but it will turn out ok!
Met Dorothy ben ik inmiddels de laatste rand aan het quilten en daarna kan ik de binding erom gaan zetten. Nu heb ik geen flauw idee hoe je zoiets doet, dus daarvoor ga ik maar eens snuffelen op youtube of zo. Er is vast wel ergens een duidelijk filmpje te vinden. Of misschien staat er wel iets over in het boek: 300 quilttips & technieken van Susan Briscoe. Een poosje geleden las ik dat Margreet dit zo’n fijn boek vond en heel toevallig (daar heb je het woordje ‘toeval’ weer) kwam ik diezelfde week het boek tegen bij zo’n soort winkel als ‘de slegte’. Nou, gelijk meegenomen natuurlijk hahaha.
With Dorothy I'm now working on the last border of the quilt and then I can go about putting the binding. Now I have no clue how to do something like that, so therefore I think I'll browse on youtube or something. There is surely something to find there. Or maybe there is something about it in the book: 300 quilting tips & techniques by Susan Briscoe. A while ago I read that Margreet thought this book was so good and quite by accident (there you have the word 'coincidence' again) I came across that book the same week and I bought it right away hahaha.
Omdat de lente nu aangebroken is, werd het toch echt eens tijd om het kleine kerstquiltje weg te halen waar ik mee bezig was op de laatste dag dat mijn moeder en ik nog samen waren. Volgend jaar zal ik het weer tevoorschijn halen en zullen de herinneringen die dan bovenkomen hopelijk niet zoveel pijn meer doen. Maar voor nu berg ik het even op en heb ik een nieuw klein lentequiltje gemaakt. Op het blog van Marian had ik een schattig patroontje zien staan (dankjewel Marian voor dit schattige patroon) en daar had ik wel zin in. Zij maakt de mooiste dingen helemaal in mijn smaak en zet daar ook nog eens vaak het patroon van op haar blog dus het is zeer de moeite waard om eens een kijkje bij haar te nemen.
Because the spring has now arrived, it was really about time to take away the little Christmas quilt that I was making on the last day that my mother and I were together. Next year I will again take it out and hopefully the memories that will come up won’t hurt as much anymore. But for now I store it carefully and I made a new small springquilt. On the blog of Marian I had seen a cute pattern (thank you very much Marian for this cute pattern) and I liked the idea. She makes the most beautiful things all in my taste and often she puts the pattern on her blog so it's worthwhile to have a look at her blog.

De onderrand lijkt op de foto een beetje scheef, maar in het echt niet hoor! Ik vind het zelf erg leuk geworden en het staat ook heel gezellig. ;-))
Ben benieuwd wat jullie ervan vinden! Nu ga ik eerst een kop koffie zetten en dan nog maar even een paar steekjes borduren… met die priegelige kruissteekjes lukt dat het beste wanneer ik voldoende licht heb natuurlijk.
On this picture the bottom of the quilt looks a bit crooked, but in real it doesn’t! I think it turned out very nice and it looks also very cosy. ;-)) I'm curious what you think! Now I am going to make myself a cup of coffee and then going to make a few embroidery stitches... such tiny crossstiches succeeds best when I have enough natural light.
