Happy Valentine's Day :)

Hello All,

Wish you all the starry eyed ones a very very happy Valentine's Day! :) In the honour of the day and also, this being my 100th post, I post here an honour "I" got from Homyachok Scrap Challenge blog: Being a guest design for the theme "Million Red Roses". Love is in the air and it is hard to resist feeling romantic! :)

Here is my creation (a photo-frame) for the challenge, as a guest designer.......

This was a specially tricky project because I am not a fan of pink and certainly, not of hearts. But rising above one's biases helps one mature as a person! :) I tried it and I think I like the final look. The "beehiving" of the heart took almost 5 hours to complete as I was gluing the rolled strips to the base as I was filling it up (large area "beehiving" can pop out if not held securely). The roses are spiral roses (which I was never able to make properly, so I tried some 12 times before I got a hang of it!), as per the requirement of the theme for the challenge :)

I am registering it for Lollipop Cards - With Love challenge

I dedicate this to my best friend, soul-mate and husband, Ananth. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't know life could be such a joy ride! He was my inspiration behind taking a step as bold and risky as taking up art full time when I am trained for being a scientist. This day and always, Ananth makes me live life the way one should - ENJOY!

This day is also special as I am in Indiaaaaaaaaaa now! Rest later, after I settle down (I know, I heard that I have to post my Valentine's Day challenge results too! :D).............

Take care all of you, stay warm and stay happy.....

No Hearts, No Pinks, No Reds :)

Hello All,

A quick post, an inspiration to everyone wishing to participate in my Valentine's Day challenge, you don't need hearts, reds or pinks to make a Valentine's Day Card! :D (I have a thing against the heart shape, too cliche, I guess!)............

The golden swirls are hand-drawn, I really enjoy that kind of drawing (and I don't do it often enough). The colours (yet AGAIN!) look a little skewed. It's a very pretty cobalt blue and bright orange combination......the embossed lines on the background are also hand-made, along with the golden dots. I don't think I take much to stamps etc, and hence, nearly completely hand-made card :)

After this, I may be going on a break because relocation blues are approaching......my husband will be a PhD in 18 days' time (boy, I am SO thrilled!)..........I will try posting as and when I can :)

Happy Quilling PS: If my posts inspire you to create something on similar lines, I feel highly flattered. But please, do respect the effort I take in conceptualizing and executing, please give a direct link to my work when you are inspired by mine. Thanks for understanding........:-)

Valentine's Day Challenge

Hello All,

I am back with a brand new challenge! :) And this is a special one for me as I will be announcing the results from my home country - INDIA!!!!!!!! Yay!

Now, the challenge (not unpredictably) is to make a project for Valentine's Day! So, your loved one can now look forward to a card, tag, bookmark, gift box......blah blah blah from you! But wait wait wait! :) You aren't having it that easy yet! :)

There is a twist!

You have to make a project that should NOT have heart shape pattern (anywhere at all), no red and no pink. By no red, I mean absolutely no red and by no pink, absolutely no pink (not even as support colours). So, pick up those browns, blues, yellows, oranges, purples...........and get creative. You can combine it with as many challenges as you feel like, but it has to be a project you made after my challenge was announced. Only 2 entries per participant please........(I am keeping my job of having to judge easy ;)).

The challenge closes on Feb. 13th at noon (IST). This will be my first day in India, after moving back for good and I want to be happy looking at all the creative creations! :)

The rating system remains the same as my last challenge: 34% weightage to creativity, 33% to skill and 33% to overall neatness and harmony between the elements. Quilling has to be the majority technique in the project.

And now, the PRIZE! Oops, PRIZES! Yes, this time, I will be selecting two winners. One, overall winner and one, "Most creative Idea". The overall prize will get a goodie bag from me, filled with quilling stuff (lots of quilling strips in a host of colours, quilling tool, glue, designer board etc.). The Most Creative Idea winner will win a customized gift from me (i.e. the winner can specify the criteria, I will make the gift accordingly).

Please post the link to your project (if you have a blog) or mail me the pictures at pritzd@gmail.com. Looking forward to some creativity from all of you and THANKS so much for participating :)

A small idea for getting going (the background is actually purple though it looks pink :D):

And yet another idea:
