Leatherface Dies Tonight
The "new" Texas Chainsaw Massacre is coming to Netflix this month. Not even really sure what I just watched below. I'll leave some comments as not to soil/sway your opinions prematurely (though I think I just let you know what I thought of it [but not totally]).

Dear Hollywood:
Don't you DARE put Egon's ghost/soul/whatever inside this ghost trap.
And PLEASE don't make those little Stay Puft CG guys form a line and start to jump into a giant CG mess that eventually becomes a giant CG Stay Puft marshmallow man.
Oh, and please make new stuff.
Love, Rot <3

Robocop
The remake turned out to be a pretty decent stand-alone film that did nothing to tarnish all the things I dug about the original. More of a drama than an action-packed scifi film, and that was just fine with me.

Flying Cars = Cool
Wow. The Fifth Element was made in 1997.
LOVE this film.

Hellraiser Remake
From Clive Barker:
Today I have officially been invited to write the script…What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed.

Remakes...
Try to guess which film of the 80's is being remade by the description below (I'll post the answer as a comment):
"...the new version follows Eric Bowen and his family, who, after he loses his job, relocate to a new town to start over. His daughter, Madison, is abducted, making him truly understand what’s important in life: family. In the new version Eric’s wife, Amy, can communicate with the dead.
Another interesting new character is Carrigan Burke, a television personality who hosts “Haunted House Cleaners.” The supernatural doesn’t scare this guy. Dr. Brooke Powell, Carrigan’s ex-wife, is a parapsychologist at a local university, and her team investigates the supernatural events surrounding the disappearance of the Bowen girl."

1987 Vs. 2012
The original Robocop design...
The new suit from the upcoming remake...
I'm very VERY grateful for the creativity and ingenuity that the 80's gave us. I think this comparison says a lot for modern Hollywood. Few new ideas and very little risk.
Since I'm feeling nostalgic, click below for a track from the Robocop soundtrack by the late Basil Poledouris.
And click here to see the new suit in action.
