A haunt and Halloween enthusiast, Miorana's display this year has the typical skeletons, ghouls and gravestones in his yard, accompanied by some more controversial components, namely Satan holding the bloody severed head of a crucified Jesus surrounded by more gory, crucified figurines dressed as nuns and priests.

Chapter 4:  The Devil Boy

"But, let me introduce myself! Moundshroud is the name.  Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud. Does that have a ring, boys? Does it sound for you?”
  
It sounds, the boys thought, oh, oh, it sounds … !

Moundshroud.

“A fine name,” said Mr. Moundshroud, giving it a full sepulchral night-church sound. “And a fine night. And all the deep dark wild long history of Halloween waiting to swallow us whole!”

“Swallow us?”

“Yes!” cried Moundshroud. “Lads, look at yourselves. Why are you, boy, wearing that Skull face? And you, boy, carrying a scythe, and you, lad, made up like a Witch? And you, you, you!” He thrust his bony finger at each mask. “You don’t know, do you? You just put on those faces and old mothball clothes and jump out, but you don’t really know, do you?”

“Well,” said Tom, a mouse behind his skull-white muslin. “Er—no.”

“Yeah,” said the Devil boy. “Come to think of it, Why am I wearing this?” He fingered his cloak and sharp rubber horns and lovely pitchfork.

The New Bus Driver Seemed So Nice

At least one Mid-South parent is concerned about what she says is a satanic symbol on a school bus.
The Cordova, Tennessee parent snapped a photo when she noticed the shape of an upside down, five-pointed star outlined in the brake lights of a school bus that was stopped in Cordova.
"Anyone who fears a God, if not God and Jesus Christ, should be outraged," she said.

Trailer: The Devil On Trial

We started watching this one last night and it has a lot of creepy promise, so I'm really hoping it can stick the landing.  I surprisingly have never heard of this case and have no idea how it plays out.  Fans of the long-lost Paranormal Witness will be happy to know that this documentary feels like it was made by the people responsible for that wonderful series.

Thinking back over the years, I'd have to say this was my favorite costume.  I mean, it's pretty much the ultimate in Halloween horrors... the top of the food chain in the world of monsters I suppose.  I'm betting I was a very subdued Satan.  One could say 'bashful' (a label often assigned to me by my parents when I was a kid).  There's dignity in silence, I suppose.

I love that the costume designers felt the need to put the Devil's face on the chest.  So the Devil is essentially wearing a Devil t-shirt.  Sorta garish, and not subdued or bashful at all.  Maybe they did that in the event someone wanted to go maskless?  But then it would still look like a kid with a Devil t-shirt on and not the actual Prince of Darkness.  

Halloween.  What a holiday.  A small raised-Christian boy out in the streets on a cold last-of-October night, collecting candy from complete strangers.  Dressed as Satan.  Accompanied by a Ghost and a Ghoul.  

Just nothing at all like Halloween.
