Penned by legendary comic book artist Joe Madureira (X-Men, Battle Chasers, The Ultimates), Darksiders: Wrath of War is set in a Post-Apocalyptic demon-ravaged world where evil forces have prematurely brought about the end of the time. Originally sent to oversee the destruction of Earth, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have been betrayed by their master, stripped of their powers and cast down to Earth. Players take on the role of WAR -- the first of the Four Horsemen -- as he embarks on a brutal quest of vengeance and revenge against the forces that betrayed him with the help of his phantom steed RUIN. Darksiders: Wrath of War features open-world exploration, a deep combat system and a huge arsenal of modern and mythical weapons.

The word from THQ this morning is that a brand-new demo of Darksiders has hit both Xbox 360 (Gold members only) and PlayStation 3. The game's been out on general release since earlier in the year, and has apparently shipped over 1.2 million copies to date. Read More »
If you read my Darksiders review, then you already know that I liked the game a lot. Playing through it, though, left me with a lot of questions about how it originated, how the team felt about being compared to other games, and what the franchise's future could hold. To get the answers that would give me closure I recently interviewed David Adams, General Manger and Development Director of Vigil Games, and one of the key people responsible for Darksiders. GamesLatest reports that Darksiders: Wrath of War has been banned in the United Arab Emirate. The ban prohibits the title from distribution and sale in the UAE. Banned games often make it over anyway, and are sold "under the table." The only explanation given was the typical one, that Darksiders contradicts the country's customs and traditions.
The recent announcement of 2K's Spec Ops: The Line also drew the attention of the UAE, with that game facing a possible ban for being set in a sand-ravaged Dubai. Read More »
I imagine that Darksiders was designed in one of two ways: Either this game swam around in its chief architect's head for the last decade (and they've been taking detailed notes over the years), or it was created by a committee with a mission statement of "Make a game that apes other successful games." Darksiders isn't a God of War clone (as most coverage might have you believe), but is instead more a fusion of God of War and the Legend of Zelda. Combine these two unlikely partners with a handful of great game design derivatives -- like the ability to slow time and wield portal guns -- and you get a game that, by all rights, should have suffered greatly for trying to do too much. Against those odds, Darksiders is mostly successful: Despite its unoriginal nature (and occasionally threadbare use of its cooler ideas), Darksiders comes together surprisingly well. Read More »
Darksiders is one of those rare games that seems to be getting better with age. It's been in development for around two and half years now as is finally readying to drop in early January 2010. To refresh yourself on why it's going to be cool to play as War (one of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) Vigil Games' Joe Madureira gets down to the nitty-gritty in this new video interview about the game. Can Darksiders give the likes of God of War III a run for its money? Read More »
