Smacking fools all upside the virtual face and neck is something I happen to be really good at, so my mouth began to water Pavlov-like as I cracked the cellophane on the sixth installment of the venerable Tekken series, anticipating the sweet tears of defeat I would soon be calling forth from the naive ducts of fourteen year olds in Dubuque. Unfortunately, though, the tears were mostly mine; Tekken 6's online play is laggy, buggy and unstable. I could not connect to Dubuque. According to Namco Bandai Europe Tekken 6 is finally complete. Along with the North American release date of October 27th and the European release date of October 30th, the publisher also revealed some of the new online play features.

Thanks to games like Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and BlazBlue, fighting games are back en vogue in the gaming community. Actually, I should clarify that: 2D fighting games have made a comback in a big way. Where does that leave games like Tekken 6, which doesn't appear to have strayed far from the (successful) formula seen in the previous Tekken games? Is there room in the public consciousness for arty 2D fighters as well as realistic (well, as realistic as a game with a tiger-faced fighter can be) 3D games? I sure hope so, because I love me some Soulcalibur!

Tekken 6 is ramping up for release late in October here in North America and today we've got our hands on some new screenshots and a couple of pieces of new character art. The leading lady in the shots is Zafina who, according to Namco Bandai, is seen sporting a new costume designed by Mutsumi Inomata.

New details have arrived today about Namco Bandai's Tekken 6 Arcade Stick Edition bundle. The famous fighting series is ramping up for the sixth console release and gamers (European gamers, specifically) will have three ways to buy the game for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
