The mysteries surrounding the Rune of Punishment will be answered in the newest installment of the hit RPG series, Suikoden IV. Follow the plight of a young knight as he struggles with a powerful Rune that slowly steals the life of its bearer. An oceanic environment filled with huge ships and vast oceans is brought to life with an orchestral score, dynamic lighting effects, and highly detailed 3D models. Build up and customize your own home fortress, as the "108 Stars of Destiny" are unveiled while players enjoy a dynamic battle camera that shows action from multiple angles and fully recorded voice-overs for the cutscenes.
The Suikoden series has gone through some bizarre changes over the course of its lifespan. After the first two, fairly modest games, a plan was hatched to make the third game an ambitious fantasy epic, with sweeping changes to gameplay and, for the first time, full 3D graphics. Suikoden III was both a success and a failure; the story was groundbreaking and riveting, but elsewhere the game lagged. If there was one major obstacle in Suikoden IV's way, it was the timing. Placed smack in the middle of November up against lots of other high-profile games, its position seemed a little precarious. The Suikoden RPG series quickly gained a following after the first game was released, early in the original PlayStation's lifespan. Its mix of political drama, speedy gameplay, a customizable home base, and an extensive cast of 108 party characters lent it a certain something that many other titles before and after it have lacked. Suikoden II was an immense improvement in most respects, but came out against Square's Final Fantasy VIII and quickly slipped under the radar.
