Like any good first-person shooter, Medal of Honor European Assault has guns. Lots of them. As you run through the game, you'll get weapons from your fellow OSS squadmates, find them scattered on the ground, and even pry them from the cold, dead hands of your enemies. There are a variety of weapon types, too, including pistols, machine guns, grenades, and even a few kinds of rocket launchers. We got a chance to check out some of the weapons available to you, and we've got descriptions of each and every one of them on the following pages.
14. STG44
The Sturmgewehr 44 made history as the first real assault rifle; in fact, the term "assault rifle" is exactly the translation of this gun. This gun was copied by the Russian Mikhail Kalashnikov in his development of the famous AK-47 assault rifle. The gun was a 7,92mm weapon which was a shorter version of this round The STG44 was very successful as an infantry weapon that fired less powerful rounds than the rifles or machineguns, but with longer range than submachine guns. It was made from a stamped metal and had a magazine of 30 rounds. The soldier would carry six 30 round magazines. With a rate of fire at 500-600 rpm, this gun was pushed into service starting in late 1942 and into 1943.
15. Stick Grenade
Commonly called a "potato masher", the stick grenade was essentially the same as the one used by the German army in WWI. It consisted of a hollow wooden shaft and a pull string with a porcelain ball at the end, as well as a tin head that contained a fuse, detonator, and a powder charge. Before using, it needed to be primed by unscrewing the safety cap and pulling the string.
