It was only last week when EA's head of sports Peter Moore released the very first screenshot from Madden NFL 10. Today, EA revealed the official release date here in North America for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 as being August 14th. As per usual, this year's cover star athlete will be revealed (and subsequently cursed?) on Friday, April 24th. Here are some of the new things you can expect to see in the game this year.
On-field authenticity and emotion is taken to another level in Madden NFL 10. With more control over the outcome of the play than ever before, players can drag defenders towards the first down marker, fight for a fumble at the bottom of the pile, and avoid the rush by stepping up into the pocket. Utilizing an all-new animation technology, Madden NFL 10 ensures that the Fight For Every Yard doesn't end until the whistle blows.

"The Tiburon team couldn't be more excited about Madden NFL 10." said Phil Frazier, Senior Producer. "With online innovation that will connect Madden fans together like never before, an immersive broadcast presentation that captures the suspense and emotion of the NFL, and the most authentic gameplay to date, Madden NFL 10 will be the pinnacle in the award-winning franchise."
The Wii version of Madden NFL 10 will apparently bring an all-new art style to the game, and has been built from the ground up with the social, dynamic aspects of same-room multiplayer in mind.

Where's the sniper rifle, healthpacks and tanks?

Bryn says: This all sounds great. Did I mention I'm not a sports gamer? I'll happily leave Madden NFL 10 to Gerald and Will, who really like to pour hours and hours into every aspect of these kinds of games. Personally, I'm going to perhaps borrow the office copy for an hour and see if there's any way to cheap out some achievements.

Skill sliders to zero, gentlemen.
