Based on the current cartoon featured on Japanese TV and created by original artist Osamu Tezuka, Astro Boy the classic 1950s manga franchise is well-loved in Japan, though relatively less known in the US. The single-player game created specifically for the PS2 by Yuji Naka and Sonic Team is a third-person perspective action title enabling players to take on the role and powers of Astro Boy, replete with his gun-like hand.

Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy, originally known as Tetsuwan Atom, is one of the most beloved figures in Japan. Sega of America makes the analogy that Astro Boy is the Mickey Mouse of Japan -- he's that adored. Astro Boy is set to invade America with a new animated series and a new PlayStation 2 game.
