Sony Computer Entertainment Europe also released a statement which informs us that the price in Europe will drop to 99 Euros. But an official spokesperson from Sony UK commented "There are no plans to reduce the price of the PS2 in the UK."
SCEA's John Koller posted a blog entry regarding the US price cut on the official US PlayStation blog.
this new price means that more people than ever will be able to join in on the fun that so many of you PlayStation 2 owners have been enjoying for years, which means new families will become part of the platform's record-breaking install base. With this new price, we intend to introduce a new generation of consumers – some of whom weren't even alive when the system was first introduced in 2000 – to the immense entertainment value offered by PlayStation 2.It's unclear whether or not Sony UK will be announcing a specific UK price drop in the future at this point.
No break for those living in the UK.
Bryn says: This is odd. Perhaps Sony UK feels confident in its ability to still shift the console at the current price of 100 GBP. At the current exchange rates that's roughly about $140 for the machine. It's not a huge difference, but surely it would have benefitted from a 10 or 15 GBP drop?
Do you think UK gamers are getting a rough deal?
