NAUGHTY OR NICE?

I am in another swap over at Paper Doll Trading!  This one is for an ATC card.  As we are approaching the Christmas holidays and I had the Julie Nutting Christmas set I decided that I would do a Christmas theme.  The swap also called for embossing.  Rather than using a full embossing folder I decided it would be fun to use the holly embossing folder that I have.

I started with a playing card that I wrapped with a shiny white paper with gold spots.

I stamped my doll and colored her with markers and used glitter for her hat and shoes.

I stamped the sentiment and colored it and mounted it on glittered paper.

I embossed and cut the holly and berries and then added glitter to them too!

I just found out my partner over in the UK has already received my card  I am so happy she liked it!  I had fun working on this.

HAPPY NATIONAL SCRAPBOOK DAY!

Today I am going to share a few layouts I created today for National Scrapbook Day.

Side Dish - Roasted Vegetable - Doily
Salad - Caesar - something brown
Dessert - ice cream - my choice - embossing

Here's my dinner -

Chicken Parmesan - 2 sheets of cardstock

Water - Faux Stitching

Fried Calamari - Diamonds
Roasted Vegetable - Doily

Ice Cream - Embossing
Caesar Salad - something brown - Brown Ribbon

My next layout is for Ann's Tradition challenge for the NSD Crop over at A Cherry on Top and for the May Stash challenge #26 at Scrap Our Stash.

Ann is getting married soon so she chose to do the wedding tradition
"Something Old,
Something New,
Something Borrowed,

and the SOS challenge is-

And here is my layout -

A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

AND SOME "POINTERS"...LOL.  I used a photo of my youngest son taken back in 2003.  He is now 16!  and I chose a challenge called ABC with a Twist over at Soul Scrappers.  I of course read it so fast that I had only seen the part about the letter being A and to use the embellishment arrows - at least 4 of them (those are my pointers!) Of course, when I went to post my layout I also noticed that you needed to have an "A" word.  Lucky for me, the upper left corner I had a cluster of embellishments containing the word 'Adorable!'.  I used the Team B Week 2 sketch from Let's Get Sketchy to base my layout on.

Here is the sketch -

I rotated the sketch 1/4 turn clockwise.  I was thrilled to see the large spot for the photo as I had just taken out this 7x9 photo to work with when Brenshevia posted the sketch the other evening.

And here is my layout!

Paula McLane Jennings's photo.

I thought you might like to see a few close ups -

(there is my A is for Adorable!) (and of course the music cleft is for his love of music, his guitar in particular.  Even as a toddler he had a toy guitar that he occasionally fell asleep with).

isn't it great when we uncover stash that we haven't used in forever?  like these fun scrabble tiles?  And when Thomas was little he simply loved all sorts of insects, little animals etc and probably still enjoys frogs when he fishes in a stream.

As mentioned Thomas loves music.  He is especially partial to classic rock and loves things from the hippy days.

(this one is for me...I loved this ribbon and this is my favorite embossing folder I cut this from!)

I hope you have enjoyed this little blast from the past!

ALL THAT GLITTERS

Finally time to work on Christmas cards...I had a new embossing folder that I forgot all about and when I spotted it I just had to use it.  I had planned to emboss it in gold like I had embossed the edges of my card and layers but the embossing ink just wasn't working on the dry embossed angel.  I remembered this gold glitter I had and ended up being so happy with that.  After running the paper through the embossing folder I used the gold glitter and then I cut the image out and mounted it on some Christmas paper that was layered over another beige/gold colored cardstock (which is what I used for the angel too!)  I had the word 'peace' in gold rhinestones that I thought would be perfect for the sentiment and it just fit!

Here is the result -

It was so hard to get a good photo of it using the phone, and the photo really doesn't do it justice.

I am entering this card in Sketches4All Anniversary challenge PARTY4, Soul Scrappers CC35 Christmas sparkles, and Word Art Wednesday challenge #161 Anything Goes.

Hopefully tonite I will get to more creating.  I am also working on some non-papercrafting projects - in particular loom knitted infinity scarves.  Maybe I'll toss in a sneak peek of some of those one of these days too!

Hope your holiday preparations are going well.  Thanks for stopping by.  All comments gratefully appreciated.

THE FIRST FEW

My first card today is a Sympathy card for a friend who recently lost her Dad. I used some velvet SEI paper, one of my favorite Sizzlet Embosslets and a new embossing folder.  I traced the embossing with a black glitter gel pen to bring out the sentiment and the edge.  I am going to enter this at Word Art Wednesday challenge #127 Anything Goes.

Here it is!

I feel bad.  I'm at that age where friends are losing parents and spouses.  I make cards all the time but never think to make Sympathy cards - they are always birthday cards, christmas cards, thank you cards, get well etc.

My next card uses Mojo Monday sketch #340.

The sketch:

I am also entering this card at Sketches4All Spring is in the Air challenge #6 which called for using at least 3 of these colors:

and in 4Crafty Chicks challenge #189 Use Polka Dots.

My Card:

I plan to have a few more shortly so stop back again soon!

Thanks so much for dropping by.

TIME FOR TECHNIQUE

For today's first project I am bringing you a card with technique.  The technique of the day being embossing. I absolutely love my Sizzix Big Kick and embossing folders.  For this card, not only did I emboss on cardstock but I also embossed on foil - specifically on aluminum duct tape.  This is for the creative monthly project over at Colorful Creations.

I chose a simple sketch from this week's Feeling Sketchy challenge-

I decided that I would do a holiday card - specifically a Valentine's Day card since that is the next upcoming holiday.  I went into my embossing folders and chose an A2 folder with all sorts of Valentine words, as well as a small dotted heart folder.  I decided to do the larger folder with the foil.  First I put the tape on a backing of cardstock so that it would be sturdy.  Then I ran it through my embossing folder and colored it with Red Pepper alcohol ink.  I added the sentiment to the strip then embossed my heart from red cardstock and cut it out and added it to the strip and voila - all finished.  A simple yet elegant card very quickly.

Here it is:

Thanks for dropping by to see what I am up to!  Hopefully I will have a bit more for you later today!

TRIPLE PLAY!

I am so thrilled to be getting back into the swing of creating.  For tonite's post I would like to share a card I made using sketch #84 from Deconstructing Jen:

as well as my choice of three of the following for the Paper Secrets CYAO #46:

*canvas/linen  *twine *dry embossing
*washi tape  *heat embossing  *hand/machine stitching

My 3 choices were washi tape (the vertical lines), dry embossing (the top square) and heat embossing (the sentiment).

and finally, there is a ribbon tied on it for Come & Get It Challenges.

Here is my creation:

Thanks for stopping by!  If you have time I'd love for you to leave a comment - they make me all warm and fuzzy inside!

A CLEAN HEART

I checked out this weeks Word Art Wednesday and found one of my favorite scriptures, Psalm 51:10.  Right away I wanted to get to work on something for it - which is a great thing because as you know I have not been creating much at all in recent weeks.

Normally when I create for Word Art Wednesday I make a card but today I felt more inspired to work in my art journal.  This week's theme was Hearts/Anything Goes.  The plan was to use this scripture:
and to use hearts.

I start my page by misting with 3 shades of pink/purple Adirondack color washes.  Then, I took a watered down gesso mixture and pulled the color across the page.  When that was dry I took out 2 of my favorite Crafters Workshop templates and Snow Cap and Silver Adirondack Paint Daubers.  I wrote the word Create across the upper left and Renew along the bottom right with an embossing pen and used some Violet embossing foil.  I mounted the scripture to some pink patterned paper and then onto a light pink dotted paper which I ran through my Sizzix Embossing Folder with linked hearts.  I took some Raspberry Distress Ink and blended over the hearts.  I attached this in the center of the page.  Then I took out a large pink heart doily.  I cut the center out of it and adhered it to my page using heavy gel matte medium.

Here is my creation:

Thanks for dropping by.  Hopefully I will have something new for you over the weekend!

A SPECIAL DAY

Today at church 3 teenagers were Baptized as well as my son and I being accepted into membership.  I made them each one of these cards:

I also made them each a cross for their bedroom using the theme or colors of their rooms.  Here they are:

The technique this week over at Card-a-Day blogspot was embossing so I entered that card as I used a wet embossing technique on the Dove and Cross for the theme With Faith.

It's Christmas in July!

Welcome to the Christmas in July Card Blog Hop!

If you have arrived here from An'Jenic http://anjenicgibson.blogspot.com/
you are in the right place.

The hop started at Ashley - http://thebloghopprincess.blogspot.com and if you get lost anywhere along the way the full line-up will be posted there as well as the blog candy information.

Please have fun hopping the complete line-up for some wonderful ideas and chances to win some candy.

I decided to make 2 very simple cards that could be duplicated easily.

The first was done with a Tim Holtz Sizzix Embossing folder that reads Merry Christmas.  I used some Coredinations Whitewash Cardstock backed in green.  I sanded that and mounted it on some red cardstock which I then mounted on a 5x7 card which was edged with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Evergreen Bough.

My next card was done the same way using a Darice embossing folder that reads Peace on Earth.  For this card I used Coredinations Whitewash cardstock backed in blue.  I sanded it and mounted it on some SEI patterned paper and then mounted this on a 5x7 card that was edged with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Salty Ocean.

Your next stop on the hop is:  Cori - http://createdbycori.blogspot.com

I hope that you have enjoyed my projects and all those along the way and that you will be on the way to creating some beautiful cards for this Christmas using some of the ideas you have found on this hop.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!  Merry Christmas!
