Here We Go Again

"Friendship Star Quilt" - smaller version
from "Prairie Children and their quilts"
by Kathy Tracy
Block size: 4 1/2" finish
Size: 15 1/2'" x 20"
Fabrics: Judie Rothermel's lines

Yes, we did it again.

What did we do?

chi- and I were chatting over Twitter last night,
(I know, I know, that's not what's for Twitter!),
then I was telling her I'm going to browse through
this book what Kathy was talking about

And here comes chi- said,
Oh, I have that one, too!

And as she has just received her new
quilty gadget to make HSTs,
she was all excited about trying using that.

As looking at the book,
I got tempted to make
Friendship Star quilt all of the sudden
to see if I can start making it ;)

They are the Fat 16th bundles.
Yes, you heard me right.
They are "Fat 16th",
which meant to be for their
lovely little booklets
filled with cute one patch projects.

But of course it's ideal for
other miniature quilt projects, too!
I often use these bundles for my miniatures
as it's a guilt free kind of thing for me
to use, rather than chopping up
beautiful large piece of fabrics!!

Anyhow, by the time when I tweeted
back to her saying I'm just about
starting making a smaller version of
 Friendship Star quilt now!!,
she replied back,
I'm cutting the fabric right now for
that quilt, too!
What a fun!!

The reason for going with
a smaller version was just because
I wanted to frame this
fits right into the frame I already have.
And you would think
Fat 16th bundle won't go that far,
but look what I have left from the quilt top
I finished making!
I think I can easily make another
one or two miniatures
except the borders.

Well, I had to pull my Fat 8th pieces
for the borders for the one
I've finished, too.

And here is another interesting fact
I found about how long
it takes for me to make one like this.

The above are the pictures
from my tweets last night.

I looked back the timeline of Twitter
and found I started auditioning
the fabrics at 20:47 last night,
then chi- has also started
almost at the same time.

By the time when she claimed
hers is all done was 00:01
while mine was finished at 00:56.
So it took for nearly 4 hours
at my end to make this little quilt top :O

The hardest part was
to pick the borders.
It's always like that for me.
I wish I had darker brown with
smaller scale prints
for the inner borders for this one.
But it didn't just happen for
the leftover cooking :(

I still haven't made up my mind
for Twister wreath quilt's borders yet, either.

It was so much fun running
unplanned SAL on one cold winter night!
Thank you chi- :)))
We'll do that again!!

Things to do on a rainy day

The binding is attached to the quilt.

It was just a perfect day
to do that while it's still pouring outside.

However, someone is not
as happy as I am.

Guess who that is?

She has been busy
trying to get my attention
to go for our regular walk
in the late afternoon.

Poor little thing...

Flying Magic Wand

I whipped this one yesterday.

This was one of the holiday projects
on my "To Make" list this year.

"Wisconsin Snowball"
by By Lisa Bongean & Carole Charles
Size: 17" square
Fabric: "Colonial Christmas" and others
by Judie Rothermel

I was going to add the binding
right after finish quilting,
then got to think about
if I'd like to have a good contrast
between the borders and the binding
or not.

I think I will have the same fabric as the borders
to make the binding strips for this one.
Yes, more red! lol

So for now, it's in the frame ;)

Life is funny,
and sometimes it gets tough
like mine yesterday.

How?

Well, my mind was totally hacked by
some other cute quilt
while thinking about the binding
for Wisconsin Snowball quilt.

I got so tempted to make my own.
What is it?

It's a wreath version of Twister!!

I got so hooked on this fun quilt
and have been looking for
more troubles.

Then chi- and I chatted about it
over Twitter last night and
we both started making one.
How fun!!

I'm still auditioning the fabrics to see
how I'd like to settle the borders.
I'm pretty much sold on the idea of
to add the dark inner borders,
then the outer borders.

It's such a perfect day today
to stay at home with raining outside :)))
My fun will continue...

Getting there

I added the borders to the runner.
I may say it's an extended size placemat?

I was originally thinking about
putting just a strip of border,
rather than either pieced or
adding the corner stones.

Then I saw this one,
and I kind of liked it that way, too.

And as I was shopping the border fabric
at my LQS yesterday,
Dee suggested to add the cornerstones
with the hourglass blocks.
I thought that is a farbulous idea!!

But the sad thing was
I only purchased enough fabric to
make just simple strip borders
which are 3" wide, not with the cornerstones
with the hourglass bloks
which are 4" finish blocks...

I could have gone with the 3" cornerstone
blocks, which are a little smaller than
the rest?

Anyhow, my mind got all excited about
such a great idea and didn't quite
think further about the changes need to be make
of how much fabric I really needed.
It was totally at my fault.

Ughhhhhhhh!!!!!

I could have just used
simple strips as the borders all way down,
but now my mind got caught by
more creativities with some
touch of personality.

So what I came up with was
to piece some other fabric
at the end of each border.
Than again, the fabric I liked to use
was from the Fat 8th bundle...
Yes, again, my favorite Fat 8th bundle.
It didn't really go far enough.
Can you tell that? lol

That's how the way I had to add
the red stripes like that in the pictures.

So that's the story behind this runner
and I need to keep going to
finish this so that I can use it for
our dinner tonight!

Now, all I need is someone
who can cook our dinner for tonight
 while I finish making this.

Is that a fair deal?
Any volunteer for that??

Merry mini quilt

After my blog vacation,
I started visiting my favorite blogs again
and this one caught my eyes at Kathie's.

Although I've missed her generous giveaway,
I decided to make one.

I used some of the fabrics from
my recent purchase of
Judie's Civil War Chronicles line.

The quilt measures 12" x 12"
and HSTs are 1" finished!

It looks like "Quaker Christmas Sampler"
goes with this miniature quilt well.
I better hurry up and finish that one, too ;)

My Twister

I've seen this one all over on blogland lately,
and of course I had to make my own!

I first saw this cute, but tricky miniature quilt
during our Shop hop tour in Southern California
in late August with Kristine.

"Primitive Pinwheels"
by Lisa Bongean@ Primitive Gatherings
Fabric: Judie Rothermel's lines

Then Kristine showed me hers the other day,
My local quilty group friend Cheryl made one,
My stitching & quilty friend chi- in Japan,
and Kathleen Tracy also made hers!

It's a pretty small quilt- 11" x 12 1/2".

You won't know how much fun
I had with making this little quilt yesterday!!
I even didn't want to leave my sewing room
untill finish binding.

But our "supervisor" (Limo's new nickname!) said,
"Mommy, how about some fresh air outside?",
so of course I had to listen to her
and took her to the park for a walk...

It was such a fun & quick method
which was totally beyond my imagination.

And you can have fun, too!
Get few scraps and ready now!

I hardly ever feel like making the same quilt,
but this may be the exception to make some more.
Yes, it was that much fun :)))

I've already figured where to put this one,
but till that time later this week,
it will stay here...

My Sewing Set

"Flying Geese Roll-Up"
Fabrics: All sort of Judie Rothermel's lines
and Bonnie Blue
Size: 9" x 16"

quickly found a new home on past Wednesday.
And here is my version to show you now.

As I've made this and this in the past,
I was thinking to make one with
the same main fabric in red ;)
The one on the first row at left
is a tool organizer
which I don't think I've shared a picture of yet.

I think I made that awhile ago
along with others.
Oh, that's right, I made that
right after made this one.
How soon to forget?

I can't wait to take these with me
to the needlecraft meeting!!

Xoxo,

P/S Hi karin in NY,
Thanks for leaving a nice comment.
I'm so glad to find you again here.
Since I don't see your email address listed
under your profile,
I have no way to contact you,
but just letting you know that
It's really good to hear from you :)))

Ta-Dah

"Flying Geese Roll-Up"
Fabrics: All sort of Judie Rothermel's lines
Size: 9" x 16"

I tried Single fold binding at my first time this time.

My friend Kristine & her mom Pauline suggested
and showed me how to do it.

I was a little afraid at first with 1 1/2" width of
the binding strips, then it was even too wide!!
So I had to cut down narrower to 1 1/4" to
make it work a lot better.
Thank you both!!
It turned out really nice :)))
And my birds are really flying now!

SSQSG- June

Guess where I am heading to on sunny Sunday?

I'm almost there now...

Here I am at quilter's paradise!!

It was our monthly meeting yesterday,
and just four of us showed up
as the rest are either out of town
during this summer time
or busy with painting her bedroom.

Started off from Pauline's beautiful quilt.
There is always story behind and
it is a part of fun to listen to...

I love her antique Featherweight, too.

This lovely bookmark is made by Kathy.
She turned her Dresden from our last meeting
into such a cute thing!

This quilt is for her son.
She is making this for his Christmas gift.

Then Lynn's FOs and WIP.

The above miniature Log Cabin blocks are
also her WIP.
She brought them to work at the meeting.
She told us she just bought this Paper piecing pattern
at the quilt shop in Sedona
where I also just visited a few weeks ago.
I guess I missed that cute pattern!!

Having fun with gossiping,
enjoying the yummy cookies,
and of course sewing!

I brought my new project from

I don't know why,
but I feel like I would like to go wild
with the colors during the summer time.
And here is those bright colors-
including some yellows and greens from
Jo's line.

By the end of our meeting,
I finished sewing up all the red blocks.

Can't wait to see everyone again next month!

Happy stitching!
