Merry mini quilt

After my blog vacation,
I started visiting my favorite blogs again
and this one caught my eyes at Kathie's.

Although I've missed her generous giveaway,
I decided to make one.

I used some of the fabrics from
my recent purchase of
Judie's Civil War Chronicles line.

The quilt measures 12" x 12"
and HSTs are 1" finished!

It looks like "Quaker Christmas Sampler"
goes with this miniature quilt well.
I better hurry up and finish that one, too ;)

Yummy fabrics and more

I started this morning with
baking Cinnamon rolls.

I had my bread machine made the dough yesterday
and then stored it in the fridge for overnight.

While awaiting for the final rising time,
I will share what I choose for
the borders of my basket quilt.

I decided to go with two different fabrics
and here is what I came up with.

Then as for the binding,
I think I will use this a sort of stripe fabric
in burnt red used for the above basket.
I like using the stripe for the binding :)

Cinnamon rolls are done now!
I added some cream cheese glaze this time
as someone asked for...

Enjoy your day,

What's Next?

Sashings and corner stones brought my quilt together.

I'm planning to pick two different kinds of fabrics for the borders on our next SSQSG meeting at LQS on this weekend... I'll have a lot of good eyes to help me to get the right ones!

Xoxo,

Layout Matters

As it's been really hot here lately,
I found myself enjoying the hand stitching project
 over the machine sewing.

Today, I'm adding some more flowers
in lighter colors into my garden!

I also made more of the spool blocks.
And now I have all 25 blocks
to make a doll quilt.

Well, someone nice who is happened to be
my new friend called these are the cheater blocks
as there are no traditional Y seams to make
these ones like "Klosjes".

But that's quite all right with me.
I really enjoy making them!
Thanks Ms. H!
And don't worry,
I still think you are a nice girl ;)

Here are my baskets.
I added 4 more and they are now ready
to be sewed together.

BTW, I did fix the "Oops basket" last night.
I'm very proud of myself!!

Anyhow, all of these three projects
will remain the way they are for now
as I'm not for sure about
their layout yet.

I'll keep looking at them all day today
and maybe tomorrow
before making the final decisions.

Yes, I have some big decisions to make
for these...

Time for Sashing

I visited my LQS yesterday- yes, I could not resist not to!, and got some fabrics for this projects. I needed some light ones for the background and something for the sashing.

I remember they have the Fat 8th rolls and found this one all from Jo Morton's line.

Untill just recently, I was not sure if I would like the Fat 8th bundles as it is just a long narrow strips, not like the FQs. I've been wondering who actually likes such thing? But as I've gotten into the scrappy world, now I know it comes very handy and appreciate for the variety of the fabrics so much with the price of just slightly higher than a yard of the fabric! Yes, with that price, I get 8 different kinds :))) I feel very fortunate with this many fabrics. Eight in one! LOL

I grabbed the book which has my project and show to the sisters who owns the shop and asked their suggestions for the sashing. They are always very nice and helpful, yet they do have such good eyes for the colors.
Then Dee brought a bolt of this black and white gingham check (It maybe very dark chocolate brown x white?)from the back room. It's also from the Jo's line and she laid out to see if it works with my baskets. Carrie from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. whom I often see at the shop also joined the show.

BTW, Carrie was shopping for some fabrics for her new project with the Jo's fabrics. She told me that she really liked the quilt which was on the display at the shop where she recently visited while she was traveling. ...It's another happy and fun time ;)

Anyhow, I really like the sashing fabric we have pick. It looks almost like the one in the book with a different color. Now I have four more baskets which include some blacks on their way. It's getting really close....

More baskets?

After debating between whether I should repeat with the same background fabrics once again with different baskets and not to repeat, I just got very impatient and could not hold onto these cute blocks any more. It means I got made more baskets!

Four more blocks are done and to make it like the one in the book, I need four more. But again, no more background fabrics in my stash (Can you believe that?), I had to stop here until my next LQS visit which I'm not planning for two more weeks till our SSQSG meeting- Small Scale Quilt Study Group.

Now I'm wondering if this black fabric would fit in these as one of the baskets? It looks a lot darker than others, but it may give a good spice to the whole.. I'll give it a shot anyway once getting the background fabrics.

It may be a good idea to have my friends at SSQSG look at it at the meeting to see if they have any suggestions as to what other colors I can bring into this quilt to make it more fun scrappy looking!

P/S As posting these pictures now, I noticed one of the baskets is being sewed up side down! Can you tell which one? How did it happen? It still looks like the rest unless looking at it very closely, but I guess I better fix it as I've found it is not the same. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!

Still having fun

I got a little addicted to make these handles,
not much of the whole basket block.
What a funny thing, isn't it?

Now the fourth basket block has arrived.
Although I still want to make those "Handles" very badly,
I don't have the background fabrics to go with
in my stash.
I'm using Jo's scraps for these baskets,
and thinking if I should mix with other repro fabrics
so that I can continue with my fun time?
Or like the original one in the book,
I may want to use the same background fabrics twice,
then I still can play for another set of so.

Decision, decision and more decisions...
Limo, can you help me with that?

Oh, I found another one of this lovely basket quilt
made by Lappetausa
through my blog friend Lea.
More and more beautiful inspirations
or it should be called as the virus???

And here is the lovely thread I've been using
for my applique.
It's a fine silk thread #100 by YLI.
I was introduced to this wonderful thing
when I took the Applique class
(You may have figured by now,
I love taking the classes!!)
about 7-8 years ago at LQS.

It blends like almost translucent into the fabric
and won'.t show your blind stitches
as much as others do.
It virtually disappears when you stitch
so you don’t have to be absolutely perfect
 with your spacing.

The only negative side of this thread I found is
as it is so fine and smooth,
you have to watch your thread
not slipping off the needle.

And I found this cute looking quilt called
"Peony Star Quilt" in the same book
"Remembering Adelia" with a little of applique in there...
The last thing I would like to share with you
is a sneak peek of my hexie flowers.
I even don't know how many are new
since last Wednesday.
They are just out of control
and growing everywhere in the house!

It'll stay in black & white till Wednesday...

Morning Surprise!

When I woke up in this morning,
I found three baskets on my sewing table!
I'm not sure where they came from...

As I said in the last posting,
I was going to be back here next week,
but after seeing these baskets,
I could not resist not to show you ;)

This is the weapon I used to make the bias handles.
I bought this one way back in late last fall at
the very first meeting of JLWC at LQS.
Since then, I haven't had used it just untill yestereay.
Being lazy, hard head, and what else you call for?

It comes in five different sizes, and I used 3/8" width
this time for 1 1/4" width bias strip.
Just sew the 1/4" seam with wrong side together
and cut down the seam allowance to 1/8"
(It doesn't say that,
but I just did it to make it to fit easier.).
Then you figure how it will be from here...

It is so nice and easy,
and you won't feel sorry for the result!
Just because I wanted to try this more,
I made two more blocks after the last posting.
It was that much fun!
No basting,
I just used three pins to secure the handle,
and no hustles at all :)))

Merry weekend!

Appliqué?

"Civil War Baskets Quilt" from "Remembering Adelia" by Kathleen Tracy

What am I up to in the late Friday afternoon, yet before the wine time?

I'm trying a tool called Bias Bar to make the Applique stem what I've wanted to try since late last year. It's so funny as Applique is my least favorite thing among all other methods to make the quilts, but my sticky fingers can't resist to stay away from it. I'm hoping a little practice would help someday...

This small basket block - 4" sq finished is just a trial run and I'll come back with you all next week ;)

P/S I just finished a block and am pleased with how the way the handle of the basket turned out! It's nice and even!!!

Enjoy your weekend,

Her sister has arrived

As I made one for myself the night before,
Now it's time to make another one with my own style :)

The fabrics I used for this Housewife are
the leftover (again?) from this BOM last year, by BBD.
While I saw one of "One Flower Wednesday" members
Theresa is using this line for her hexie flowers,
I wanted to see them again after such a long absence.

As most of them are just tiny scraps,
I had to piece some of them together
to make it to the size I needed for this project.

Having someone in my mind for this,
I tried to add her favorite things.
A little Embellishments with Feather Stitches,
Her colors and style :)

It's always fun to add some stitcheries onto the project
to give it a finishing touch.

This will be definitely a piece I will make over and over.

I'm so glad to have found her in this book...
