IMAGINE........What Exactly?? Collage for Try It On Tuesday

Hiya, hope you are all ready for a new challenge from Try It On Tuesday - I have to say that last fortnight just flew by!!

The new challenge is to create a collage which must include some script and originally I thought I was going to make a flat collaged piece - something I haven't done for a while and which I really enjoy. However when I was sorting through some bits and bobs these things seem to fall together. I'm not sure where the journaling page came from, I think it came in a parcel from a friend, and the bit on the right is a piece or air dried clay that has been stamped into and then coloured. The wire had been bent like that and reminded me of a project in this month's Craft Stamper, although in the end I didn't use it for my project.

Anyhow I decided to start with these bits and this is how it ended up.

Imagine? Well it seemed as good a word as any other and fitted in the plate. It did cause me quite a bit of reflection when I was considering what to put there but I really must learn not to sweat the small stuff LOL.

Anyway, if you think you could manage a bit of collage this fortnight we'd love to see you over at Try It On Tuesday. The DT have pulled out all the stops as usual and there is plenty to inspire.

Show Us Your Metal!!

is this fortnight's challenge at Try It On Tuesday. After much head scratching I decided to visit an old favourite - using ordinary kitchen foil.

Here is my DT entry, I have made a little 4 x 4 memory book (I haven't finished the insides!) and the cover front and back is made from silver foil. For the front I attached various embellishments to a piece of 4 x 4 mount board and then covered it with kitchen foil. A thicker kind is best as it is less likely to tear. You then work the foil into all the grooves and then once you are happy paint as you wish and dry. Then use some black paint and quickly wipe off, leaving bits in the crevasses to age it and finally  finish off with whatever metallic rubs or waxes you have to highlight the textures. In fact the crinkled foil on its own gives a rather nice texture and that's exactly what I did for the back cover.

Back Cover!!

There's lots of great inspiration from the DT over at Try It On Tuesday and we'd love to see what you get up to so get thinking metal and link up your project.

See ya!!

Try It On Tuesday - Angel's and Demons and the June Giveaway

An apology
Well my dears, I have been MIA since the end of May - a holiday, work (lots of work), sickness, GP visits and even housework - you know how it goes..... but am now trying to get my crafty act together. (I did think I was organised before I went away, but it would appear NOT). So, I'm sorry for the silence, I will endeavour to do a bit better this week(!).

Our sponsor _ Dilly Bean Stamps
Using the digital image -#381 - Isabella Fairy
Here is my DT entry for Try It On Tuesday this fortnight. The theme is 'Angels and Demons' and no prizes for guessing I have sided with the angels for this project. I have used one of my gelli prints to create the background to my little hanger. The main image is a digi from  Dilly Beans      (this month's sponsor) who have some great, slightly quirky (right up my street!) designs.
I have sized this one to fit and coloured with promarkers. Quite a simple little piece and I didn't think it needed much extra (not entirely sure why it took me so long to finish it though!!)

So we'd love to see what you can come up with, just pop on over to Try It On Tuesday and join in!!

AND FINALLY..........
June Art Draw
Well, because life has been taking over my craft time this month I have decided that this hanger will be this month's Art Draw Prize. Each month I give away a little piece of art work to someone who comments on the relevant post (ie this one!!) so if you leave  a comment you will be included in the draw. International players welcome, please feel free to link from your own blogs, if you let me know you have I will put you in twice. This one will run until 9 pm on Sunday 30th June.

TIOT On The Wild Side - Bird card

I am so glad I finished this design piece ahead of time as I have felt really poorly this last week with some sort of non-specific virus which ended up with me losing my voice on Sunday. Just managing to croak a few words but not really feeling up to much - all say 'aaah' !!!

However, back to business and this fortnight at Try It On Tuesday we are asking you to feature animals or birds on your projects. I have used embossed and sanded Kraft Core to make my backing paper. The main image is from a Kanban stamp set - it took 3 attempts to emboss this without getting speckles all over the background!!

It was coloured with promarkers in shades of blue green and lilac (I almost managed to get it to match the paper).

I thought this card would be suitable for a variety of occasions and have purposely left it bling-less so it would work as a male or female card.

So ferociously wild or cuddly and cute, get out your animal images and join us at at Try It On Tuesday.

Try It On Tuesday - Feminine and Fancy!!

Should be easy right? But for some reason I have struggled with this one!! I have a wealth of stamps and kits I could have chosen - perhaps it was the range of possibilities that stumped me but finally I plumped for this very pretty shoe image from 'Stamps by Chloe'. You can't go wrong with a fancy shoe can you?

I rummaged through my papers and found a pretty rose pattern amongst some 12 x 12 wedding scrapbook papers. Vellum, crushy ribbon, some very pretty lace and a sentiment from Anna Marie designs - done.
I didn't want to over load the card because whilst I was doing it I thought of a friend who might like it and it will have to be posted.

Because in the end it was quite a simple card I used up the rest of the paper by lining the envelope and fussy cutting to decorate the outside.

So, what can you make that's feminine and fancy?  Do come over to Try It On Tuesday and join in.

Spring has Sprung!! Something that moves - Try It on Tuesday Challenge

Well this fortnight we are asking you to include something that moves on your project. I decided to make a double slider card and although I have made them before from a kit I decided I needed a bit of a refresher. I found this great little utube tutorial from Lesley Oman and it was so easy to understand I decided to CASE it and link in to my post so you could see how it was done.
For good measure and for a spring feel I used flower and butterfly stamps - well we live in hope!!

Here is the card when the slider mechanism has been pulled out:

I have to say this card nearly went in the bin, not because it was difficult to put together but because I couldn't get the colour scheme right. It started out pale pink and grey but was far too wishy washy - adding a bit of blue and some worn lipstick perked it up a bit and it looks much better. I have included some 'waxed' leaves with my flowers - they crack up nicely to give a random vein effect. These ones were made from kraft paper and I really like the way they turned out.

Anyhow we'd love for you to join in this fortnight's challenge and to pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see what the DT have been up to - there are a few crackers there I can tell you!!

Exciting bits - Our sponsor this month is Genuinely Jane Studios

Boring bits - please follow the rules!! Our challenges cover any kind of project but we do ask that you stick to the theme and link only to 5 challenges in total. Unfortunately to be fair to those that do we can't include you for selection for Top 5/Prize Draw if you don't follow the rules.

Try It On Tuesday - 'Time Flies'

I often think this should be my personal mantra as I am more often than not rushing around chasing my tail and  playing catch up. The downside of our busy modern lives is that we often forget to live in the moment. So this fortnight's Try It On Tuesday theme is one close to my heart and I wanted to try and make something  a bit different for my DT project - and for once I made time to do just that!!!

I am a sucker for buying the latest bits and bobs and never getting round to using them, so there are a fair few art parts languishing in my craft room.

This piece is a mixture of art parts, grungeboard die cuts, various cog die cuts (because I can't decide which one to buy I buy them in bundles ready cut from ebay. That way I get all the styles whereas I couldn't justify buying all the different dies .... could I?).
I have then treated them to a bit of Distress EP, paint, ink and metallic rub ons. I had great fun putting all this together and even found a place for one of my mini bottles.

Our sponsor this month is Really Reasonable Ribbons who are offering a $15 gift voucher for our February challenges winner.
So come on, let's see what you can make with this theme - I am anticipating it will be a very popular one! You can enter any project as long as it follows the theme but please remember to link to only 5 challenges in total if you wish to be considered for Top 5 and the Prize Draw at Try It On Tuesday.

Try It On Tuesday - It's All About The Eyes...

This fortnight we are asking you to create a project where the main focus is an eye or eyes. I seem to be in the mood to work small this week so I've done an ATC using Distress Inks and various eye stamps I have (who knows why I have so many .. answers on a postcard please...). I have had this sentiment stamp for ages  - I think I bought it at my first ever trip to Ally Pally - and it always makes me laugh, and reminds me not to take myself so seriously. (Because, of course, there are no art police and no rules in art !!)

We have a new sponsor for February Really Reasonable Ribbons who are generously offering a $15 gift voucher to our winner this month.

Anyhoo, hope you can find time to play and join in with us at Try It On Tuesday. BUT (and it's only a little 'but' really) please, please, please abide by the rules of the challenge, (in particular only linking to 5 challenges in total) because it is such a shame when great projects can't be included in Top 5 or Prize draw because this has been ignored. Have fun!!

Try It On Tuesday - Let's get Stitchy!!

Or perhaps this post should be titled 'The art of knowing when to stop'.

So to get to my DT piece for this week. It is a fully loaded 8 x 8 canvas. It started from the big blowsy flower which came in an embellishment kit - gorgeous but a bit big for a card - which gave me the creamy/peachy colour tones and well, it kind of grew from there!!

OK we asked for stitching on this week's project's at TioT and there is stitching on my project although it may be hard to see as the layers have obliterated most of the stamped and faux stitching. However I can assure you the lace ruffle is handstitched, as are the swirls on the piece of fabric (I even did a bit of beading). The idea for that being that the stitched work would marry up with the stamped swirl behind - kinda worked!!

There are a lot of layers and also texture in this piece though mainly abstract as my spackle was a bit lumpy and hard to manage through non-use (until I remembered you could add water - doh) so I couldn't use my masks. I've done a few other pieces in tandem with this one that were more successful in that regard but I'll post them later as this is a TioT Challenge post. The rolled roses and shabby flowers are handmade and spritzed with micas and the leaves have been DI'd and embossed with Distress embossing powder to give them a rough and multicoloured texture.

I always find it hard to know when this kind of canvas is finished - to be honest the first layers of paper were so pretty I couldn't cover them up for a day. Anyhow it gave me a chance to use some new stamps (had them since September!!) and have a rummage in my stash and I think it will look nice on my wall.

So now you've seen what I've done it's your turn - but don't worry you don't have to go crazy you can do any kind of project to any theme with real or faux stitching.
Crafty-emblies is our sponsor for January, with a £10 store voucher for our lucky winner this month.
Just remember that to be considered for Top 5 and the Prize Draw you must only link to 5 challenges in total including ours. Don't forget to visit the other DT members at Try It On Tuesday and check out their projects as well!

Because this turned out kinda pretty and feminine I am entering it into the current 'Our Creative Corner' Challenge for which the theme is Shabby Chic.

Happy Crafting!!

Try It on Tuesday - New Stash!!

Happy New Year to you All!!

Well here we are with the first challenge for 2013 at Try It On Tuesday. We'd like you to tell us what crafty goodies came in your stocking and show us what you have made with them. There's no particular theme, and you can make anything you like and upload to enter. Please, please read the rules and be aware that you can only be considered for Prize draw and Top 5 if you link to 5 or less challenges including ours.

I know it might be hard to believe but other than a pack of buttons, I didn't get anything crafty for Christmas. (I guess I must just be too naughty!!)

I did get a little money, so although most of it is being kept aside for a NEW PRINTER, and some has already been spent on t'internet, I did have a little splurge at our local hobbycraft sale  and picked up a couple of stamps ('cos I haven't got enough). For some reason this particular one has been calling to me for a while so when I saw it in the sale I thought I would give in and have it. (I'm showing you the coloured sheet because let's face it, an acrylic stamp takes a pretty poor photo.

Christmas presents, of course, mean 'Thank You' cards so I made up this simple little design using the layered butterfly as the main feature. After colouring in the butterfly I got a bit stuck in orange mode, not a colour I usually associate with cardmaking .
Hope you like it.

Unlike me, you have a couple of weeks to play with your new stash, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. So come and play along with us at Try It On Tuesday, we'd love to see you there.

'Lucky Dip' - Choose 4 for Try It on Tuesday

This fortnight we are asking you to include four elements from the following list on your project.

Die cuts, Ribbon, Sentiment, Pearls, Distressing, Stamped Image

Our sponsor for December is Delicious Doodles, who are generously offering our monthly winner, their choice of 4 Digi stamps from the store.

Here's my project which is a white on white wedding card. I have used Die Cuts, a Stamped Image, Pearsl (inside the flowers) and a sentiment.

It was nice to do somethimng  non-christmassy for a change as it's been full on this month. However I'm nearly ready to clean and put all my crimbo stamps away - just one special card left to finish.

Well I hope you'll find a few minutes before or after the big day to join in with us at Try it On Tuesday. Can't wait to see what you come up with!!

Try It On Tuesday - Christmas Sparkle!!

Well a very simple little card from me this fortnight as I am prototyping my all-and- sundry christmas card which needs to be flat to save postage and using my 'new' Christmas stamp - I say 'new' because it is actually an oldish Lily of The Valley image but I think it is very sweet, (and very quick to colour for mass production!!).

I did however try out a different technique on this card. It may not be obvious from the photos (I have a nice close-up but can't get it to load up the right way round even if I rotate and re-save it - go figure). After stamping and colouring the image with promarkers I put a double sided sticky sheet (? correct name escapes me) over the image and then glittered onto the sticky surface with a very fine white glitter. I thought I might lose the image but it comes through nicely and kind of looks like it has been done on glitter card. So a nice bit of Christmas sparkle for this Tuesday's challenge!!
Don't forget to enter your sparkly christmas projects by hopping over to Try It On Tuesdays and linking in. We'd love to see what you've been making.

Try It On Tuesday - 'Memories' DT Piece

I have to 'fess up. When I sat down on Sunday morning (cutting it fine as usual) to make my DT piece for Try It On Tuesday I was completely mojoless and uninspired. When that happens I find the only thing that gets me making is to follow a 'recipe', a sketch or try out a technique.

I have quite a few new stamps that have been looking at me reproachfully for some time now as they haven't seen ink yet so I thought I would make myself use some of these. I bought them at Ally Pally from the Paper Artsy stall and this particular set was  the last choice I made for a 'buy 4 get 1 free' offer. The first four were easy to choose, the last one was more difficult because although all the sets are gorgeous none of them were screaming 'you have to have me'. So I chose something that I wouldn't normally. If that makes sense. Still stuck for inspiration, I then looked over the photos I took at the Paper Artsy stall of all their lovely samples.  I didn't see anything using the stamps I had bought but saw a fairly masculine looking little piece with lots of bits and bobs on - something I find very difficult to do myself although I love the look.  (I would have put in a picture but it's just in one of the whole wall and a bit fuzzy even before cropping so I'll spare you that).

So new stamps in hand, and using that layout as a sketch or recipe I came up with this. And to make it fit with the theme I just used the word 'Memories' on it. A bit of a cop out I'm afraid!!

Anyhow, it has way more elements than I am usually confident at adding but works I think though I should probably have stamped the clock onto a slightly thicker piece of card to put crackle glaze on it as it's gone a bit crinkly.  Oh well, it's just vintage!!

So, if you would like to join in with us at Try It On Tuesday we'd be very pleased to see your 'Memories' projects. Have a great day!!

Try it On Tuesday - HALLOWEEN and DT Call

Image from Flickr Group
Well I guess it has to be done. Maybe one day I'll give in and buy a lot of halloween stuff but not this year!!

Here is my DT piece for the current Try it on Tuesday challenge, a stamped and collaged ATC.

I was going to make a spooky altered bottle as I have been much inspired by the ghoulish goings on at Laura Carson's blog, Artfully Musing but I couldn't even find a decent bottle!! If you have a few minutes to spare go over and have a look if halloween is your thing - there is some gorgeous eye candy. I can never believe people find so much 'stuff' to put on their altered art - I certainly wouldn't know where to look for it.

So I'm sure you've all got a little halloween project you can share with us at TioT. It can be any type of project that fits the theme, but you must remember not to link to more than 5 challenges if you want to be considered for Top 5.

We also have a design team call out until 20th November so whether you are a newbie or an experienced crafter why not have a go? Just add DT after your TioT entry so we know you are interested.

I'm happy to gift or trade this ATC if anyone would like it - first one to say so in the comment box. and, err, .....
 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Autumn Colours at Try it On Tuesday

This time of year, between when the kids go back to school and the clocks go back, more than any other reminds me of the years when my children were younger and life seemed somehow simpler. I remember the leisurely walks home from school, playing in the park and making the most of the last of the sun, collecting conkers (boy, did we collect a lot of conkers!!) and watching the trees change colour as the days passed. It's quite  a few years since we've done that, and in fact I don't have anyone going back to school or even college this year as they are officially all growed up, but the autumn days still fill me with a certain nostalgia and a longing for that time. So when I saw the theme for this fortnight's challenge was Autumn Colours I thought I'd make a sort of journal/canvas to commemorate that feeling.

I actually think this project looks better IRL, it's basically a canvas with some gorgeously blended autumn colours overstamped with leaf images in brown memento ink. The leaves are printed from a digikit and covered with printmagic - they do actually look quite leaflike! - and the figures are from an inkadinkadoo stamp. I couldn't find a sentiment that expressed what I wanted to say so I wrote my own (so don't laugh).

Everyone loves Autumn colours they are so rich and warm so why not create your own project and join us at Try it on Tuesday? Just remember to enter only five challenges in total if you want to be considered for Top 5. Can't wait to see what you get up to!!

I'm putting this up really early as I have yet to master the scheduled post (well, I think I understand it, it just never seems to actually happen) and I am off to Paris in the morning - Yay!!

a bientot,

Cindy

Try It on Tuesday - LAYERS

Here is my DT project for this fortnight for Try It on Tuesday. The theme is layers and I've gone a bit outside the box with this one as it is a digital scrapbook page. ( I could have told you it was a real one - you'd never have known lol).

I made it using the Craft Artist programme from Serif and there lots of digital elements layered over each other to make up the background as well as the obvious 'paper' images and photo. Hope you like! Lpve this programme though I've stilll only scratched the surface.

Anyhow, hope you might take time to come and play with us at TioT. You can make anything you want as long as it meets the theme and you only enter it in four additional challenges. Hope to see you there!!

Try it on Tuesday - 'So Very British'

A quick ATC from me as a TioT Design Team sample - Our theme this fortnight is "So Very British". With London 2012 just around the corner we would like to see a little bit of Britishness on your projects.

The weeks are flying as I try to get settled in to my new work pattern and get prepared for all my kids' activities this summer at work. Ambitiously each week through the summer hols we are running two story/rhyme time sessions, a craft activity and a drop in kids reading group/fun session on Saturday mornings. Oh, and a competition. Plus of course The Summer Reading Challenge. It will either be a great success or a complete flop LOL.

So as our main themes at work are basically London and Sport (spot the link?) I had already been playing with various London images and was itching to use this one on a project. You may have noticed I am in love with Octopode digis at the moment and this is my latest one. The background is also a digi stamp from a docrafts digital designer kit, although I am pretty sure it is available as a stamp too. The little bunting was gifted by a friend. Promarkers, Copics amd Distress Inks added the colour!

I know everyone in the country has had their umbrella out these last few weeks but if you've also been playing with your union jack, big ben or teapot stamps then why not dash off a project and join us at TioT? Can't wait to see what you make - it can be any style of project as long as it  meets the  'so very British'  theme. You have a whole fortnight to take part.

TioT - Bingo Card with a twist!!

This week at Try it on Tuesday we have a bingo card challenge.

The twist is that you have a butterfly on your project as well as  following one of the lines.

I've never done one of these before but here is my attempt for the DT. The line I chose was the diagonal one, 1 Diecut, 2 Backing Papers, 3 gems. I realised afterwards that a bit of ribbon crept on there too  but close enough I think!!

Would love for you to come and join in with us, you can make any type of project as long as you follow the Bingo card instructions - let us know which line you choose!!

Please remember that if you want to be included in our Monthly Prize Draw and be eligible for Top 5 you must only link your project to 5 challenges in total including TioT.

Other than that, it's up to you!! Can't wait to see this week's entries.

One for the Boys.... Try it on Tuesday Challenge

Well with Father's Day on the horizon our new challenge is to create a project for the 'boys' in our life!! For my Design Team piece I decided to try a twisted easel card. My shabby union jack background was printed out from a CD and then overstamped with stamps from Indigo Blu's 'Pomp and Pageantry' set. I made the rosette myself from a strip of the same paper. A Tim Holtz die cut of course for the car and I coloured a chipboard swirl and triple embossed it to make an unusual shiny stopper for the card. I made the little bunting from odd scraps of card and string.

Want to play along? Then pop over to the Try it On Tuesday blog to read the fine print and check out the challenge. Add your link and we'll pop over and visit. Every challenge will now run for two weeks so there's plenty of time to get your entries in. Hope to see you there.

(I shall be away when this posts - IF it posts!!- so should you stop by and leave a comment it won't be visible until I return ....)

TioT - Down by the Beach!!!

Well it would be a nice idea - as long as it was somewhere hot and sunny!! It's so cold in my craft room I need some fingerless gloves on (can't type with mittens LOL).

Anyhow just quickly posting my DT entry for the current 'Try  it on Tuesday' challenge.

I love this stamp which I picked up for a song in a sale last year, there is something very calming about the image. The words are from a Crafty Individuals set (CI-272). I used mainly distress inks to colour in my picture, with just a touch of promarkers here and there.

I do hope you will pop over to TioT and see the other DT submissions and add your own entry. Projects can be in any medium as long as they fit the theme. See you there!!
