Quick Travel Journal Spread

Happy Monday, and Happy May! I promised in my last post to show a super quick journal spread made with only the products I included in my Travel Journal Kit, so here it goes! Oh, one thing that I don't have in my kit is the gesso, but I typically prepare the pages a bit in advance so that was not necessary to have on the road.



I'm not a very confident drawer or watercolourist, and it's not always easy to think up things to draw or paint. So I quite like the idea I did here: clipped a magazine image I liked and tried to repeat it in painting. I'm really happy how it turned out!

Like the Travel Journal Kit post, this spread was originally made for Allt om Scrap DT and is from last year already. So if you wondered if we're still not having spring in Finland - oh yes, we do! It came unusually early this year, too.

Travel News & A Travel Journal Kit!

Hello! To those of you who pop in regularly, I owe huge apologies for disappearing for three whole months. This totally unplanned break was luckily not due to any tragic event. On the contrary, a long time travel dream of ours is about to happen and since we made the decision to do it this spring, the plans and preparations and general excitement have taken all my free time and thinking capacity!

Myself, husband and our boys aged 7 and 1 are heading for the USA and Canada for a whole month, starting next week. We’d saved and hoped for this trip for several years and still, since we finally got the flights in the end of January, time has truly flown by. I still can’t really believe it’s happening until, probably, the night before our departure!

Meanwhile, now that our plans are nearly settled, I hope to post a few previously unposted projects before we leave. While we are away, I don’t think I’ll be posting at all – unless I’m inspired to do something very quick and improvised on the way. I decided early on that scheduled posts are out of question, for the simple reason that I’ve had less crafting time this year and I wouldn’t have enough projects, nor the time to do the posts. Instead, I hope to return from our trip with a lot of inspiration and new ideas!

And you bet, some new materials as well!

Do you like to keep an art journal or do other sorts of crafts when you’re travelling?

I’m planning a small Travel Kit to carry with me, to entertain the kids as well as myself on the long journeys and rainy days. Before it’s ready, though, I realized I have another Travel Journal Kit of mine from last year that I have not yet shown here! Here you can see my original DT post at the Swedish Allt om Scrap site.

When I take art supplies with me, I usually pack way too much, so it’s always a challenge to make it small. How good that I came to think of my previous kit, before I pack a new one! I think taking a look at what I included last year will help me remember what may have been missing, and what may not have been needed at all.



This Travel Journal Kit includes:

• small journal (choose paper that suits your media: stronger paper for wet media and heavy collage)
• pencil, sharpener and eraser black pen(s); mine is a Pitt Artist Pen Set
• other favourite pens
• watercolour pencils or travel watercolour box
• water brush
• ink pads; I have Black Staz-On for stamping on any surface and a few small coloured ones from Versafine and Versacraft
• glue and scissors
• a few favourite stamps and acrylic block
• small bag of collage images, paper scraps and ephemera
• double sided tape
• a few favourite washi tapes
• Stickles or Liquid Pearls
• minitubes of acrylic paint and a piece of foam for applying it
• baby wipes for cleaning the stamps 

I hope to see you soon again with a quick journal spread I created with the abovementioned products, and when my new kit is packed, I hope I have time to post that too before embarking on the journey!

Allt om Scrap DT: Summer's Almost Gone

When the light summer evenings of the Nordic countries begin to get dark towards the end of August, it means that summer is soon over. This week at Allt om Scrap, we've created pieces to celebrate the end of summer. Our inspiration was the lovely Pinterest moodboard by DT member Jeanette Nyström aka Jeany. With this lovely end of summer atmosphere, I say also goodbye to my DT post at Allt om Scrap. It's time to look forward to new responsibilities!



The moodboard inspired my choice of photo, first of all. In Finland, a hotel with an outdoor pool is a rare find, and for my son it was the first time ever to swim in one! I knew about the pool when I booked but thought it best not to mention it beforehand. The season might just be over when we were to arrive on the last day of August. But to our happy surprise, it wasn't!



My journaling continues on the back and it is about how glad my son and I were about the swimming pool. It was particularly exciting to swim at dusk, just before bedtime, so the nightly swim theme suits perfectly that of the moodboard. I also wrote about how great it feels to make one’s child happy with something like this and how grateful those of us can be who can afford to share the luxury of travelling (whether big or small) with their kids every now and then.



I'm also participating in the Once Upon a Sketch September challenge with this layout. The prompt was Anything handwritten, and the sketch was like this.



You can see how I rotated it and substituted one of the photos with the framed title. I was quite happy with how I did the writing vertically - in the direction of the run down paint drops.

By the way, I just began to wonder if this might be my first ever layout without any ready-made patterned - or coloured - papers. I'll need to check that out! The one under the photo is a leftover from my mixed media ATC backgrounds.



If I didn't say it already, I always love staying at a hotel with an outdoor pool! Thus I am also linking my layout in Berry7Bleu challenge, with the theme of Things we love.

Allt om Scrap DT: Burlap as Stencil

Hello, and happy Monday! This week at Allt om Scrap we created with stencils and masks. These are among my favourite tools, but this time I had an extra challenge, having left them behind at our summer cottage. I decided to experiment with something I found at home, namely the burlap fabric. I removed some of the threads, leaving empty squares here and there to be coloured with mists.



Heippa! Tämän viikon teemana Allt om Scrap -sivustolla on sabluunat ja maskit. Ne kuuluvat ehdottomasti omiin suosikkityökaluihini, joten tämä oli kiva teema! Lisää mielenkiintoa tehtävään toi se, että omat sabluunani ja maskini olivat kaikki mökillä kesäloman askartelujen jäljiltä. Samaan tarkoitukseen voi onneksi käyttää monenmoista kotoa löytyvää esineistöä, ja päätin kokeilla sabluunaksi säkkikangasta, josta poistin osan langoista jättäen jäljelle tyhjiä "ruudukon" kohtia.

Allt om Scrap DT: Decorate with Chipboard

Hi everyone, and Happy Sunday! Today our theme at Allt om Scrap is wood and chipboard decorations. Chipboard elements are fun to alter in different ways, while wood veneer looks funky with its original woodgrain colour and pattern.

I made this ATC with the anatomical heart chipboard and coordinated stamp by 3rd Eye. I stamped the heart using black embossing powder and painted it with golden acrylic paint. What's your favourite way to alter chipboard?



Hei kaikki, ja mukavaa sunnuntaita! Allt om Scrap -sivustolla viikon teemana on puu- ja puupahvikuviot. Puupahvia eli chipboardia on hauska muunnella eri tavoin, kun taas puunväriset kuviot ovat valtavan hienoja ihan sellaisenaan. Täältä voit kurkata, mitä muut tiimiläiset tekivät!

Käytin ATC-kortissa 3rd Eyen leimasinta ja yhteenkuuluvaa chipboard-koristetta, joka löytyy täältä. Leimasin ääriviivat mustaa kohojauhetta käyttäen ja maalasin kullanvärisellä akryylimaalilla. Millä lailla sinä tykkäät koristella chipboard-kuvioita?

Owl Cuteness - Söpöt pöllöt

Hi everybody, and happy May! This Sunday's theme at Allt om Scrap is Owls. I've liked these now so trendy birds since I was a little girl, and back then I would have loved to have one of those stuffed owls made of fabric scraps that you can see all over Pinterest and other websites today. Search "owl pattern", for example, and you'll find plenty.

For these super quick ATCs, I took some previously made mixed media backgrounds and created the same patchwork feeling but from paper scraps!

Hei kaikki, ja hyvää toukokuun alkua! Tämän sunnuntain teemamme Allt om Scrapissa on pöllöt. Minua pöllöt ovat kiehtoneet pikkutytöstä saakka, joten on ollut hauskaa seurata, miten niistä on tullut oikein muoti-ilmiö! Erityisen ihastunut olen kangastilkuista tehtyihin pehmopöllöihin, kun tykkään kaikesta muustakin, mikä on tehty tilkuista. 

Tilkkupöllöjen kaavoja on esimerkiksi Pinterest tulvillaan. Kirjoita hakusanaksi vaikka "owl pattern", niin sieltä niitä löytyy! Nyt oli aikaa vain johonkin oikein nopeaan, joten tein skräppipaperien lopuista tilkkupöllöjen tyyliin superhelpot ATC-kortit aiemmin tehdyille taustoille.

Monochromatic Mixed Media: Yellow

Hello to you! I'm wishing everyone a Happy Easter and/or celebration of spring this weekend. Me, I am lucky to be enjoying a long Easter holiday, and this spring's first long weekend at our country cottage

Meanwhile, At Allt om Scrap, Easter has inspired our colour choice for this month’s monochromatic theme challenge. The colour of the sun, daffodils, chickens, yes, it's yellow I'm talking about! I love yellow and enjoyed the challenge a lot. For Allt om Scrap challenges you can make anything: from cards and layouts to crocheting and jewellery making. It does not have to do with Easter, it's just where we picked the colour yellow from.

Check here what our Guest Designer Eila Sandberg and the other DT members did – I particularly love how Christel upgraded her bicycle with crocheting! The challenge is open until May 21st and the winner will get a yellow surprise giveaway!

Hei! Aurinko paistaa ja olen onnekas, kun pääsin aloittamaan pääsiäisloman mökillä jo keskiviikkona. On ollut aikaa metsäkävelyihin ja kevään merkkien ihasteluun puutarhassa. Myöhäiset pääsiäistoivotukset ja kevään iloa toivottelen teillekin!

Kevät ja pääsiäinen ovat myös Allt om Scrapin kuukausihaasteen taustalla, sillä haasteena on luoda jotain kokonaan keltaista. Työ voi olla mikä vain: kortti, skräppisivu tai vaikka virkkuutyö, kuten AoS:n haasteissa muulloinkin. Katso vierailevan suunnittelijan Eila Sandbergin ja muun tiimin työt täällä. I wanted to make an abstract collage card inspired by patchwork quilts, with many shades of yellow. It's not easy to make it work without a focal image, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out!

Aiheen ei siis tarvinnut liittyä pääsiäiseen, vaikka sen vuoksi tuo keltainen teema oli keksittykin. Itse tein tällä kertaa kollaasin tilkkutyön tapaan, keltaisen eri sävyissä ilman esittävää keskuskuvaa. Asettelua ei ollut ihan helppo saada tasapainoiseksi, mutta lopputuloksesta kyllä tykkään!

Black, White and Silver Layout

Hi again, and welcome to join the monthly Design Challenge at Allt om Scrap! What I'm sharing with you today is my DT layout for this challenge, where the prompt is to create using the colours black, white and silver only. The challenge is open for participation until March 19, 2014.

I wanted to use the silver colour in particular, and I even had a photo with some silver in the little knight's helmet and armour. Not having a lot of silver coloured stuff in my stash, I began to alter my background and embellishments. I'm particularly happy with the background, which I stencilled with acrylic paint!



Hei taas, ja tervetuloa osallistumaan Allt om Scrapin kuukausihaasteeseen! Tehtävänä on luoda skräppisivu, kortti tai muu projekti vain mustaa, valkoista ja hopeanväriä käyttäen, ja osallistumisaikaa on 19.3. asti.

Halusin omassa leiskassani korostaa etenkin tuota hopeaa, varsinkin kun löysin kivan kuvan, jossa sitä on pikku ritarin varusteissakin. Mieleni on tehnyt opetella käyttämään metallivärejä enemmän, mutta tähän asti en ole oikein osannut eikä minulla siksi ollut myöskään paljon valmiita materiaaleja tähän.

Next, I painted some chipboard alphas and frames with black gesso. At this point I also had the Scrap Africa challenge in mind, where the February theme is to use altered chipboard. After the black gesso I gave them a silver embossing powder finish.



I did not want to use a lot of embellishments, because I wanted to leave room for the background and chipboards to show. But I did find a key and a couple of buttons that I think went well together with the rest of the layout, as well as some patterned tape, so that's what I added in the end!

Neulekuvioisella sabluunalla ja akryylimaaleilla tuli minusta hyvä tausta, ja seuraavaksi maalasin aakkoset ja kehykset mustalla gessolla. Siihen päälle tuli hopeinen kohokuviointijauhe. Osallistun tällä leiskalla myös Scrap African haasteeseen, jonka aiheena on itse koristellut puupahvi- eli chipboard-kuviot.

Paljon muuta koristetta en halunnutkaan laittaa, jotta tausta sekä "hopeoidut" aakkoset ja kehykset saisivat tilaa. Ihan pelkistetyksi en osaa leiskaa kuitenkaan jättää, joten viimeistelin sen parilla napilla, avaimella ja kuvioteipeillä.



Altering chipboard was a lot of fun and did not take too long, so I'm sure I'll want to do it again soon. Next I think I'll check out what others have done for this theme at Scrap Africa!

Pahvikuvioiden tuunaaminen oli hauskaa, eikä siinä kestänyt kauankaan, joten sitä voisin tehdä jatkossa enemmänkin. Menenkin seuraavaksi kurkkaamaan, mitä muut ovat aiheesta keksineet Scrap African haasteeseen!

Male Scrappers Theme at AoS: Scraplifting Eoghann Mayfair, Lord of Scrap

Do you know any scrapbooking men? I must admit that I didn't, though there actually are some. And today at Allt om Scrap there's a chance to get to know two of them! They are known by their artist names, Eoghann Mayfair from France and Charlemagne G Gargalicano (Charllie) from the Philippines.

I chose to scraplift from Eoghann, also called the Lord of Scrap, from his series of tags called Le Jardin, la Nuit (The Garden at Night in English).



These are Eoghann's original tags. I was particularly inspired his grandiose baroque flowers and his use of dark, strong colours together with the contrasting white.

Monthly Design Challenge at Allt om Scrap: Doodling

Hi again! I hope you've all had a good start for the new year. Here in Finland, the sun and snow have finally appeared after many weeks of cloudy, rainy weather, so that definitely cheers us up! And today, there's a really fun new challenge up at Allt om Scrap, with the theme of Doodling! The challenge is open for participation until February 19, 2014.

When I started my layout, I knew right away which photos I was going to choose. The patterns of the swing, the climber and their shadows on the ground reminded me of doodle patterns and inspired me to try my own. For the lettering, I found examples in artist Martha Lever's blog. The doodle around the photo is inspired by Zentangle® patterns Arc Flower and Bunzo, to which you can find step-by-step guides here.



Doodling is a lot of fun, and if you think it's difficult or find it hard to start, remember that the style originates in what almost everyone has done sometimes: thoughtless drawings you make when speaking on the phone, in class or during a meeting! There are tons of examples to be found on the internet, but I'd also really like to find a good guidebook on doodling, especially the lettering part. Here is one that I found, with Martha Lever as one of the contributors: Creative Lettering: Techniques & Tips from Top Artists, written by Jenny Doh and published by Lark Crafts, 2013. If you can recommend one, I'd really like to know!

Hei taas! Toivottavasti uusi vuosi on alkanut hyvin. Aurinko ja luminen maisema antavat ainakin hurjasti iloa ja energiaa monen sateisen, pimeän viikon jälkeen!

Tänään on Allt om Scrapissa uusi kuukausihaaste ja teemana doodlailu. Jos sana ei vielä ole jollekin tuttu, niin itse asia varmaan on! Kyseessä on siis piirtelytyyli, jonka lähtökohtana on kaikenlainen rento muissa mietteissä raapustelu esimerkiksi puhelimessa, luennolla tai kokouksissa. Doodlailut itsessään eivät yleensä ole esittäviä, mutta niitä voi käyttää myös esittävien piirrosten "täyttämiseen" tai värittämiseen.

Kuvat tähän leiskaan oli helppo valita, sillä keinu ja kiipeilyteline sekä niiden varjot toivat mieleeni piirrellyt kuviot ja innostivat kokeilemaan itse. Kirjaimiin katsoin mallia Martha Lever -nimisen taiteilijan blogista. Tältä Zentangle® -piirustuksen kootulta ohjesivustolta löytyy puolestaan runsaasti kuviomalleja ohjeineen. Valokuvia kehystävät koukerot ovat yhdistelmä malleista nimeltä Arc Flower ja Bunzo.

Hakusanalla "doodling" löytyy valtavasti esimerkkejä netistä, mutta minun tekisi mieli hankkia aiheesta myös jokin kirja. Erityisesti minua kiinnostaisi oppia noita kirjaintyylejä lisää. Watercolour Theme at Allt om Scrap

Watercolours and mists are the theme of week at Allt om Scrap. I made my background with a technique where you first paint the paper, let it partly dry and then wipe some of the colour away through a stencil. Baby wipes are the best for this!

Allt om Scrap -sivuston viikon teema on vesivärit ja mistit. Tein taustan tekniikalla, jossa paperi ensin maalataan ja annetaan hieman kuivua. Sitten poistetaan osa maalista sabluunan läpi pyyhkimällä. Vauvan puhdistuspyyhkeet sopivat mainiosti tähän, kuten moneen muuhunkin askartelijan käyttöön!

Allt om Scrap: My Favourite Layout in 2013

This week at Allt om Scrap is dedicated to looking back at the year 2013. What were the most important trends, our favourite embellishments, best scrapbooking memories and favourite layouts during the past year? What are the team's hopes and expectations for the year 2014? It's written in Swedish as usual, but anyone can enjoy looking at the new favourite layouts and other projects published every day this week.

I joined the team in September, so I didn't so much to choose from yet. But this one I am indeed very happy with!



Tällä viikolla Allt om Scrapin tiimi muistelee kulunutta vuotta: Mitkä olivat vuoden suosikkituotteet ja -trendit, ja toisaalta toiveet ja tavoitteet ensi vuodelle? Entä parhaat skräppäysmuistot ja onnistuneimmat leiskat? Kysymykset ja vastaukset ovat tuttuun tapaan ruotsiksi, mutta kuvissakin on katseltavaa, sillä vuoden suosikkitöitä julkaistaan päivittäin.

Minä liityin joukkoon syyskuun alusta, joten DT-töitä ei ole vielä hurjan monta kertynyt. Tämä leiska on aika selkeä valinta suosikiksi. Tiedoksi myös, että Allt om Scrapin design-tiimi etsii parhaillaan uusia jäseniä, joten jos ruotsin taitosi riittää, hae ihmeessä, aikaa on 20.1.2014 asti!

Allt om Scrap is also calling for some new Design Team members among those who can speak Swedish. The call is on until January the 20th. It's a fun and easygoing team, so if you're thinking about it, do send in your application!

Circles Layout for Allt om Scrap

Hello again! The week before last, I had the worst cold, and did not feel like posting anything. The good side is that now I'm well again and there are many previously made projects to post!

Here is a circle themed layout that was made for the Allt om Scrap Sunday theme two weeks ago. Check what cool layouts and cards the other DT members did, too!



Many of us still had some products left from the various Polish companies that generously sponsored our monthly theme of Poland. My Ayeeda paint and mist are from 13@rts and the patterned papers are from P13 collections called Summer in the Garden och Sweet & Sour.

I wanted to use the circle shape in many ways, so I first printed some on the background with a bottle and a piece of foam cut into a circle. The P13 paper had circles in itself and for the backing of the photo, I embossed some with white powder and misted with blue after that. The circle theme is also repeated in the photo of the bike and the embellishments. It was fun to create a summer themed layout in the darkest time of the year!

By the way, P13 is short for Friday the thirteenth in Polish! And what might interest you is that they are having a Design Team call right now until November the 30th. International applicants are welcome!

Allt om Scrap: Teemana ympyrät

Hei taas! Onpa mukavaa olla taas terveenä ankaran flunssan jälkeen. Harmittaa, että tuli näin pitkä katkos blogin päivittämiseen, mutta toisaalta nyt on paljon laitettavaa valmiina.

Tämän leiskan aiheena oli inspiroitua ympyrän muodosta, mikä oli Allt om Scrapin sunnuntaiteemana kaksi viikkoa sitten. Täältä löytyvät muidenkin tiimiläisten hienot leiskat ja kortit!


Halusin toistaa ympyrän muotoa monella tapaa ja aloitin kuviomalla yksivärisen taustapaperin. Painoin sinistä akryylimaalia pullonsuulla ja ympyräksi leikatulla vaahtomuovipalalla. Valokuvan taustapaperin tein kohokuvioimalla siihen ensin ympyräleimoja ja sen jälkeen väritin kirkkaan turkoosinsinisellä suihkeella. Ympyröitä oli myös kuviopaperissa itsessään, ja sama muoto toistuu polkupyöräaiheisessa kuvassa ja käyttämissäni koristeissa. Olipa hauskaa käyttää tällaisia kesäisiä värejä kesken vuoden pimeimmän ajan!

Monilla meistä oli vielä jäljellä eri puolalaisten valmistajien tuotteita, joita olimme saaneet Allt om Scrapin teemakuukautta varten. Omassa leiskassani olen käyttänyt 13@rtsin Ayeeda-merkkistä akryylimaalia ja mistiä sekä P13:n kuviopapereita. P13 on muuten lyhenne sanoista perjantai 13. päivä puolaksi, ja jos tykkäät tämän valmistajan papereista, tsekkaa ihmeessä Design Team-haku 30.11. saakka!

Inspiration: Poland

Poland has really come forward recently as a country with so much new to offer in scrapbooking: Many great artists and interesting, grungy small companies. What's their secret? Is there a Polish scrapbooking style, or many different ones?

The love of mixed media does seem to be one thing they have in common. For a closer look, I warmly recommend to check out the Allt om Scrap site this week, with lots of inspiration on the theme of Poland. Even if you already know some artists and companies from this country, I'm sure there's more to learn in the thorough article by one of our editors, Marie Johansson. It's in Swedish as usual, but the Google translation seems quite ok to me!

For my DT project,I chose to scraplift a layout from this week's Spot-on Artist Kasia Krzyminska aka Czekoczyna. The first layout is my interpretation and below, her original one. Check out what the other team members did!





Puola on skräppäyksen uusi trendimaa, josta tuntuu tulevan kaiken aikaa uusia kiinnostavia tekijöitä, tyylejä ja omaperäisiä pienyrityksiä. Mikä on menestyksen salaisuus? Onko olemassa jokin tietty puolalainen tyyli, vai monta erilaista?

Osa puolalaisista nimistä oli minulle ennestään tuttuja, kuten Finnabair sekä Sodaliciousin Nulka ja Jaszmurka, joiden workshopiin minulla oli ilo osallistua kevään Intohimona Skräppäys -tapahtumassa. Moniin muihin tekijöihin ja tuotemerkkeihin voi tutustua tällä viikolla Allt om Scrapin sivuilla! Marie Johanssonin monipuolinen artikkeli sisälsi ainakin minulle paljon uusia nimiä. Se on tavalliseen tapaan vain ruotsiksi, mutta Google kääntää ainakin englanniksi aika sujuvasti.

Oma Puola-inspiraationi on tällä kertaa scrapliftaus-työ, mikä tarkoittaa sitä, että tehtävänä on napata ideoita toisen tekijän työstä. Snow Adventure Layout & Flair Buttons Challenge

Hello again!

Here's my layout for the Design Challenge at Allt om Scrap, where the theme this October is flair buttons, also called badges. I just got my first ones, made by the Polish company 3rd Eye, who has a cool variety. It was not so easy to use them, though, but I'll try again for sure.

You're welcome to join the challenge until November the 20th, and of course to check what our Design Team and Guest Designer Michelle Hernandez did! The prize is an assortment of flair buttons from Michelle.

There's also a tutorial for making your own badges, by Design Team member Stephi. It's in Swedish, but with a lot of photos!



Hei taas! Allt om Scrapin lokakuun haasteen aiheena on koristenapit, joita englanniksi kutsutaan nimillä flair buttons tai badges. Ostin tällaisia ihan ekaa kertaa puolalaisen 3rd Eyen verkkokaupasta. Ne ovat siis kuin pieniä pinssejä, mutta takana on hakaneulan sijasta tarra.

Koristenappeja voi muuten tehdä itsekin. Kun ehdin, ajattelin kokeilla näillä ohjeilla, jotka laati Stephi Allt om Scrapin tiimistä. Ohjeet ovat ruotsiksi, mutta runsaan kuvituksen avulla varmaan pärjää vähemmälläkin kielitaidolla!

Haasteeseen voi osallistua 20.11. saakka ja palkintona on vierailevan designerin Michelle Hernandezin lahjoittama sortimentti nappeja!



The sketch and the theme "Journey" are from Once Upon a Sketch. I turned the sketch to suit landscape photos, but wanted to keep the three fairly large photos of the sketch. It wasn't so easy to make the layout work with so much stuff in it. I'm glad I took the challenge, anyway!

The photos are of my son when he was almost one year old, getting to know snow for the first time. It wasn't love at first sight, like it often is for older children, but he still approached it with a curious mind. The journaling in the little envelope is about how he's kept that curiosity while growing up to a boy who'll be six on his next birthday already.



Osallistun samalla Once Upon a Sketch -haasteeseen. Ohessa luonnos, jonka käänsin vaakasuuntaisiin kuviin sopivaksi. Tarinointi on pienessä kirjekuoressa ja tulkitsen siinä väljästi OUAS:in teemaa Matka.

Kuvissa poikani seikkailee ensimmäisiä kertoja lumessa hiukan alle vuoden vanhana. Hän ei ihan päätä pahkaa siihen tainnut ihastua, mutta tutkii silti uteliaana uutta ympäristöä, ja tämä piirre on ilokseni säilynyt. Ajatella, että ensi talvena tämä taapero on jo kuuden ikäinen!

5th Anniversary at Allt om Scrap!

Hi all, and welcome to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Swedish online magazine Allt om Scrap! There's a lot to look at this month: to celebrate the number five, there are five different competitions for you readers, with inspiration pieces by past and present designers of the team. You can find all the competitions as separate entries on the same day, Friday the 11th of October, and they go on until October the 20th! If you need help translating the Swedish, just let me know in the comments field!

My layout is for the competition number 5, where the challenge is to scraplift a layout from the early days of Allt om Scrap. See the original digital layout by Marie Johansson below mine.

This was the first time I did scraplifting, and the example of the original is maybe almost too obvious! I was just too tempted to use this photo that was very similar to the original, and wanted to pick the bright colours and star embellishments as well. Happy weekend to you all!



Tervetuloa juhlimaan Allt om Scrap -sivuston viisivuotispäivää muun muassa viiden kilpailun merkeissä! Aloitin tämän ruotsalaisen verkkolehden Design Teamissa tänä syksynä, ja alla on minun leiskani yhteen synttärikilpailuista. Kilpailussa numero 5 tehtävänä oli scrapliftata, eli inspiroitua tai ottaa mallia alla olevasta digileiskasta. Sen on tehnyt Allt om Scrapin alkuaikoina yksi perustajista, Marie Johansson.

Tämä oli minulle ensimmäinen scraplifting-leiska, ja alkuperäisen esimerkki on ehkä melkein liiankin selkeä! En malttanut luopua ideasta käyttää lähes samanlaista kuvaa, kun sellainen sattui tältä kesältä olemaan. Halusin mukaan myös tähdet ja kirkkaat värit.

Kaikki viisi kilpailua löytyvät omina postauksina samalta päivältä, perjantailta 11.10. ja osallistumisaikaa on 20.10. asti! Jos joku tarvitsee apua ruotsin kielen kanssa, autan mielelläni. Huikatkaa vaikka kommenttiosiossa. Hyvää viikonloppua!

Allt om Scrap Recycling Sunday: Sunflower Field Layout

Scrapbooking may not always be an economical hobby, but there are actually lots of ways to incorporate recycled items in your layout. This Sunday's theme at Allt om Scrap is Recycling, and you're welcome to check the team's tips on having fun with second hand stuff!



Skräppäystä pidetään usein tyyriinä harrastuksena, mutta toisaalta skräppäys on myös mainio tapa käyttää kierrätettyä materiaalia. Säästäminen ja vihreys ovat yksinäänkin riittäviä syitä, mutta moni tykkää myös luovasta ja persoonallisesta jäljestä, jonka kierrättämällä saa. Allt om Scrap -lehden kierrätyssunnuntaissa tiimi esittelee tänä monta kivaa tapaa kotoa löytyvän roinan käyttöön!

My main recycled element were the puzzle pieces I used for the title of the layout. I gessoed them with two layers, then sandpapered a bit and painted them with very light yellow. I then stamped some sunflowers with Distress Ink in Mustard Seed colour. The title means The Sunflower Field in English. I chose a Swedish title this time, being in a Swedish Design Team and also because it's the second language in my family.



Pääasiallinen kierrätystarvikkeeni olivat otsikossa käytetyt palapelin palat. Maalasin niihin pari kerrosta gessoa, siloitin pikkaisen hiekkapaperilla ja maalasin hyvin vaalealla keltaisella. Leimasin auringonkukkia Distress Inkin sävyllä Mustard Seed, ja lopuksi piirsin kirjaimet.

Tein tällä kertaa otsikon ruotsiksi, joka on Allt om Scrapin tiimin kieli mutta myös toinen kieli perheessäni. Solrosängen on suomeksi Auringonkukkapelto, ja tämä kiva kohde kotimme lähellä Espoossa on tullut jokasyksyiseksi pistäytymispaikaksi. Viljelijä ilahduttaa monia, sillä kukkakimpun saa poimia mukaan kotiin hyvin vaatimatonta korvausta vastaan!



In my odd bits and pieces box I also found some ribbon, a button and embroidering yarn to use as embellishments. In the very beginning of this layout, I have also recycled soda can clips and am entering this layout in the Scrap for Help challenge with this theme. Can you see where they are? That´s right, I used them as masks for spraying the green and brown mist in the background. Have a nice Sunday!

Sopivat koristeet löytyivät nappi- ja nauhalaatikon kätköistä, ja kierrätystavaraa käytin myös ihan ensi töikseni kun tätä sivua aloitin. Scrap for Help-haasteessa kuukauden kierrätystarvike oli juomatölkin avausnipsut, ja käytin niitä taustan kuvion luomiseen vihreillä ja ruskeilla misteillä. Mukavaa sunnuntain jatkoa!

Allt om Scrap Mixed Media & Art Journaling Sunday

Hello again! Yay, here's my first project as a member of Allt om Scrap Design Team! AoS is a cool Swedish online magazine with new inspiration every Sunday. Today's theme is Mixed Media and Art Journaling. Here you can check out what the other team members created!



Hei taas ja jee, tässä tulee ensimmäinen projektini ruotsalaisen Allt om Scrapin DT:n jäsenenä! Päivän aiheena on mixed media ja art journaling - käy ihmeessä ihailemassa muidenkin tiimiläisten luomuksia täällä! Lisää inspiraatiota on tarjolla aina sunnuntaiaamuisin.

I love creating collaged backgrounds. It's a great project for those days when you have no idea of a finished piece yet, but would rather clean up your table first from the previous scraps! Yes, this is how I use those scraps. Though not all of them, unfortunately, so I do have to throw some away too! After a layer of acrylic paint, you can see through a bit but not too much. You can wipe the wet paint away in places where you want more of the collage to show.



Tykkään tehdä taustoja kollaasina etenkin silloin, kun minulla ei ole vielä ideaa valmiista työstä vaan haluan ensin siivota silppulaatikon edellisten töiden jäljiltä. Juuri tällaiseen niitä on kiva käyttää! Akryylimaalikerroksen jälkeen alta kuultaa juuri sen verran, että se tuo syvyyttä työhön muttei hallitse liikaa. Märkää maalia voi pyyhkiä sienellä tai talouspaperilla, jos haluaa jostain kohtaa enemmän näkyviin.

I often make the collage on a bigger background and cut it afterwards. Here, I got four 4x4 chunkies from a piece that was 8x8 inches to begin with. And then I got to try my lovely new Viva Las VegaStamps tree stamp for the first time!
